what did prem meant by saying that ?

guys ,i really dont understand 1 thing ,when heer asked him "unknowingly a person can hurt someone ,it's possible when he loves two ,he has to choose so that the one person he loves the most doesn't get hurt " by saying that heer meant that he chose gayatri bcoz he loves her the most & prem said "its hard to pick one & at the end he himself gets hurt by doing this " ,now what i want to know that prem actually didn't negate heer's baat ,he knows he loves gayu most that's why he chose him ,isn't it ? but isn't this show more about eternal love story of premer rather than other kind of love in life ?i m confused 😕 ,i watch this show just for preemer & their love rather than other part of this show .
