Hello, beautiful people! 😃 So how much have you guys missed me? Like, honestly? 😎 Although don't be expecting anything else from me for a while, okay, because my exams are next week and I should totally be studying. 😆 But I gave up studying and worked on a oneshot that I've been working on for a while, so here it is! I know quite a few people have already written on 'Collide' by Howie Day, but here's my take on it. 😳 So here it is, and enjoy! 😃

Collide

"Maa!" Preet Juneja hollered, lugging his three suitcases behind him as he made his way along the corridors in the Maan manor. "Mera kamra kaunsa hai?"

"Arre, woh wala!" Gayatri Juneja hollered back. "Staircase se teesra kamra, left par!"

Preet began counting the doors. It was nice that the Maans had let the Junejas stay with them for the duration of PB and Heer soon-to-be-Bhabhi's wedding. The only problem was that there were too many rooms. He stopped outside the third door on the right and opened the door.

He entered the room and set his suitcases near the door. He studied the room. He made a face. It was way too girly: the room was pink and cream-coloured, with white curtains and a lacy bed sheet and a faded pink blanket covering a girl in a blue kurta.

He frowned. Why was there a girl in a blue kurta asleep in his bed?

He approached her, cautiously: girls who were woken up from their sleep tended to be very scary, as his experiences with his two sisters had taught him. He lowered his face to hers, peering at her. He smiled. She was pretty. "Thodi moti hai, lekin chalegi," he said softly.

She stirred and opened her eyes.

She had lovely brown eyes.

The brown eyes stared at him, and she frowned. "Tum Nihaal Bhaiya nahin ho," she murmured.

"Nahin," he replied amusedly. "Main Preet hoon, Prem Bhaiya ka bhai. Aur tum mere kamre mein ho."

She closed her eyes, snuggling into her blanket. "Nahin, yeh mera kamra hai. Now go away."

He straightened. "Dekh, moti, Maa said that my room is the third from the left. This room is the third from the left. So you're in my room."

She sat up. "Moti kisko kaha?" she snapped. (Preet half expected a bird to fly in and make a nest in her dark brown hair.) "Agar tumne phir se mujhe moti bulaya na, toh main tujhe chodoongi nahin, samjhe? Aur doosri baat: you might want to learn how to differentiate your left from your right."

Preet frowned. In his mind he retraced his steps. His eyes widened. He looked down at her and gave a nervous laugh.

She gave him a look. "Jaa rahey ho, ya main tumhe bhaga doon?" she asked sweetly.

Preet backed away.

She lay back down on her bed and curled up in her blanket again, muttering something about dreaming about weird men coming into her room.

The dawn is breaking

A light shining through

You're barely waking

And I'm tangled up in you

Yeah

Breakfast was two hours later. Preet bounded down the stairs. Luckily the dining table wasn't too hard to find.

He sat down at the table, next to Harman. "Breakfast ke liye kya hai?" he asked, interrupting the conversation that his mother was having with Teji Maan.

Teji smiled at him. "Aaj Heer aur Meher ne mooli ke parathey banaye hai. Bas, abhi aatey hi hongi."

And right on cue, the girl from this morning – Meher, Preet assumed, considering he knew what Heer looked like – came out from the kitchen with a plate stacked high with the parathey.

She stopped when she saw Preet. She frowned, staring at him. "Tum…aaj subah mere kamre mein aaye they."

All heads turned to Preet, scandalous expressions on everyone's faces. Preet turned bright red.

I'm open, you're closed

Where I follow, you'll go

I worry I won't see your face

Light up again

"Dekho, Heer Didi meri didi hai, aur shaadi usski ho rahi hai, toh decorations meri marzi se hogi! Ab hato toh sahi!" Meher tried to push Preet off the ladder that she was standing on, a ladder that was much too narrow for two people.

Preet climbed another step, causing Meher to grab onto the curtain precariously.

"PB mera bhai hai, aur decorations mere marzi se honge!" he shot back. He reached up to pull off the string of pink, white and red roses that Meher had laboriously strung up. "PB ko roses achche nahin lagte."

"Preet, agar tumne roses ko haath lagayena, toh main tumhara jeena haraam kar doongi!" Meher screeched into his ear. "And please, get off the ladder!"

"Arre, tum dono ladder par kya kar rahey ho?" the alarmed voice of Teji rang out behind them. "Gir jaaoge!"

Caught off guard, both Meher and Preet turned around, an action which caused the ladder to tilt backwards. Meher's eyes widened and she clutched the curtain tighter as they fell. Preet didn't realize that decorative roses strung up wouldn't slow down their fall, and he brought the roses down with him.

Luckily for Meher, she was cushioned by Preet. She glared at him as the curtain fell over them. "Dekha tumne kya kiya?" she asked, punctuating each word with a smack on his chest. "This is why we do things my way!"

Preet glared back at her. "Moti, do you mind getting off me? I can't breathe," he hissed.

She smacked his chest again. "Mujhe 'moti' mat bulao!"

Preet glanced at Meher, who was sulking on the other side of the passenger seat. As if feeling his eyes on her, she looked at him. He winked at her, and she scowled before looking away. Preet sighed. He had to do something.

He moved closer to her. She frowned at him.

"Your side is that side, so go away," she shot softly, so that Prem Jiju wouldn't hear her them from his place in the driver's seat. Not that he would hear her. He was busy singing along to 'Khudaya Khair'. She wondered briefly if Heer Didi knew what a dork her soon-to-be husband was.

"Dekho moti – I mean, Meher," he quickly corrected as she glared at him. "I think we started off on the wrong foot, and I think, for the sake of PB and Heer Bhabhi, we should try to get along. Kya kehti ho?" He offered his hand.

She narrowed her eyes at him. "You're up to something…"

He rolled his eyes. "Honestly, Meher, I'm not. See? I'm even calling you 'Meher' now!"

She studied him. He was calling her 'Meher' instead of 'moti'…

She sighed. She shook his hand. "I know I'm going to regret this."

Preet grinned. "Of course you will."

I'm quiet, you know

You make a first impression

I found I'm scared to know

I'm always on your mind

Prem and Heer were finally getting engaged.

Meher smiled as she stood in a corner, taking in the fruits of her labour. The house was decorated with pink, red and white roses, and there was a platform in the middle of the hall that had two chairs decorated to look like thrones on it, where Prem and Heer would sit in just a little while. The Prem-Heer posters that Preet had thought of had been a rather ingenious idea, though Meher would never have admitted it, and near the stairs, Preet and Ashlesha were flirting.

Meher frowned. Preet and Ashlesha were flirting?

She folded her arms, feeling her face heat up. She gritted her teeth, balling her hands into fists.

Then she frowned deeper. So what if Preet was flirting with Ashlesha? What did it matter to her? It doesn't, she told herself. And besides, Prem and Heer were making their way to the platform.

She focused her attention on her sister and her soon-to-be brother-in-law, but her eyes kept wandering back to Preet and Ashlesha.

And then Ashlesha was alone.

Meher frowned, wondering where Preet had gone. She couldn't help herself from looking around for him.

"Kyun? Mujhe dhoondh rahi thi, kya?" a suave voice asked from behind her.

Meher spun around, startled to find herself looking into Preet's twinkling dark brown eyes. He winked at her. She scowled, turning away. She folded her arms again. "Nahin."

"You were totally looking for me," he grinned, nudging her.

She stuck her tongue out at him. "No, I wasn't."

"Yes, you were."

"No, I wasn't."

"Yes, you were."

"No, I wasn't."

"Yes, you were."

"No, I…Preet, shut up."

Preet laughed. "Aaj tumhe kya hua hai?"

"Matlab?"

"Matlab, mujhse gussa kyun ho?"

"Bas yunhi."

Preet nudged her again. "Bataao na."

"Go away, Preet."

Preet kept nudging her. "I'm not leaving you alone until you tell me."

Meher kept silent.

"Bataao na," Preet urged, still nudging her.

"Tum Ashlesha ke saath kya baatein kar rahey they?" she asked, turning to him.

Preet stared at her for a moment, then grinned. "Oho! Toh tum jealous ho!"

Meher rolled her eyes, blushing. "Main jealous nahin thi," she retorted defensively.

"You like me!" This was, in Preet's eyes, the greatest discovery since microwave popcorn. "You like me! You like me!" Preet sang, turning Meher redder.

"Shut up, Preet," she mumbled, wondering if that was true.

"Meher!"

Preet bounded into Meher's room and seated himself on her bed, where she was laid out flipping through a magazine.

"Hmmm?" she asked without looking up.

"I'm bored. Chalo, hum movie dekhne jaate hain!" He grabbed the magazine from her.

"Hey!" she protested. She sat up, crossing her legs. "Gimme back my magazine!"

"Not until you agree to go watch a movie with me," he grinned, wiggling his eyebrows.

"Ashlesha ke saath jaao na," she snapped, snatching the magazine back from him. She leaned back against her headboard and continued reading her magazine.

Preet lay down over her legs. "Lekin mujhe tumhare saath jaana hai," he said with a little pout.

Meher stared at him from the top of her magazine, feeling her heart flutter.

He stuck his bottom lip out a little more. "Please?"

Meher sighed. "Theek hai."

Don't stop here

I lost my place

I'm close behind

"Goodnight, Meher," Preet said, and he leaned forward and planted a kiss on her cheek.

Meher smiled as she thought back to last night. She couldn't understand why Preet had such an effect on her.

"Meher? Kahaan khoyi ho?"

Meher blinked, looking at hers and Heer's reflections in Heer's mirror. "Ji?"

"Tum mere baal kar rahi ho na?" Heer asked, worry etched in her face.

Meher looked down at the brush in her hand. "Oh. Haan. Sorry, Didi." She resumed combing Heer's hair, bunning it up.

Heer studied Meher's reflection. "Kya baat hai? Kiske baare mein soch rahi ho?" she teased, knowing full well who brought the smile to her sister's lips.

Meher blushed. "Koi nahin, Didi."

"Shaadi meri ho rahi hai, aur pyaar tumhe bhi hua hai!"

Meher blushed harder. "Didi…"

Heer laughed. "Tum aur Preet ek dusre ke liye perfect ho, Meher."

Meher smiled.

"Aa rahi hai!"

The whispers around him caught his attention, and Preet turned with everyone else to see Heer coming down the stairs in her red sari, with Meher and Ashlesha on either side.

He smiled as his eyes settled on Meher, who was looking beautiful in an orange lehnga. In his mind's eye he imagined that she was the one in red. He gave a happy little sigh.

Three hours later, Prem and Heer were married.

The reception was going on, but for the first time Preet was restless at a party.

No matter who he was talking to, he always found himself looking for Meher.

He finally spotted her next to the refreshments table, and he excused himself and headed over to her.

-||-

Meher smiled to herself. The wedding was a success, and she and Preet had done a wonderful job organizing the entire thing. And Prem Jiju had been afraid of leaving the wedding preparations in their hands.

Preet.

She bit her lip as her thoughts drifted to him. The past three weeks had started out horribly, but once Preet had extended the hand of friendship – literally – things had worked out so well.

And now he was leaving.

Her smile faded. He was leaving.

Someone nudged her. "Kyun? Kiske baare mein soch rahi thi?"

Meher looked up, not surprised to find Preet there. She smiled, looking away. "Koi nahin, Preet."

"You couldn't have been thinking about me," he said, nodding.

She raised an eyebrow. "Achcha? Kyun?"

"Kyunki agar tum mere baare mein soch rahi thi, then you'd be smiling." Preet glanced down at her, smiling as he saw her smile widen. "See, ab tum muskura rahi ho, matlab tum mere baare mein soch rahi ho."

Meher laughed. "Preet, tum bhi na!"

Preet grinned. He slipped his hand into hers, glancing at her for her reaction.

Meher blushed, but she closed her fingers around his. She looked up at him, smiling.

So what if he was leaving?

They had the 'now' and that was enough.
