Chapter 4

We all stepped out of the car which I had parked in the parking lot in front of Macy's. As we headed inside Prem asked me:

"Heer'tum theek ho na? Cuz you looked a little disturbed in the car." He asked in a concerned voice.

"Nahin, mein theek hoon, it's just, you know younger siblings can get pretty annoying sometimes'but that's it'nothing else." I explained to him, obviously I wasn't going to tell him that I had feelings towards him and that I felt awkward whenever I was near him, but I guess I should get used to his presence, I mean he is my friend, that too my childhood friend.

"Yeah'I feel you'.I've experienced it myself" He answered.

"Thanks for asking'" I said.

"No problem'I'll be here anytime you need me, just like a true friend" He said it so sweetly with a smile on his face'did he look adorable or what?! After seeing his million dollar smile'all my irritations went away'how sweet of him, he is a true friend.

Thankfully, the others were ahead of us so none of them heard our conversation, or else they'd have things cooking in there mind that "Heer di aur Prem bhaiya ke beech kuch chalraha hai!!" when there was nothing like that, well at least not yet.

Anyways, we reached inside of the store and decided to split up into groups of two with a person from the other family so no one from our own family figures out what they're getting.

"I shotty Meher!" Yelled Preet. (In other words he's saying "I pick Meher!")

"Umm'why?" asked Meher confusedly.

"Cuz I prefer going with you'so you can help me pick out the gift I want to get for my family" he explained sweetly while the rest of us were just standing there observing.

"Couldn't you just do that with anyone else?" Meher retorted back.

"Ugh Meher'tu natak mat kar aur Preet ke saath ja'come on!" I said getting annoyed by Meher's tactics.

"Ugghhh fine Di!!!!" groaned Meher.

Afterwards Tushar went with Veera and lastly I was left'you've probably already guessed that I went with Prem! I was excited and nervous about shopping with him at the mall but I guess everything would work out fine'

"So I guess it's just you and me then'" Prem said.

"Yup, I guess it is'toh tum kiske liye gift loge?" I asked politely.

"Umm'mein soch raha tha ki mein sabh ke liye gift le loon'so know one would feel left out you know'"

"That's nice of you'vaise mein bhi yahi soch rahi thi ki mein sab ke liye gift le loon'humaare khaayalaat (thoughts) kitne milte hain haina?" I mused.

"Haan woh toh tum theek keherahi ho'isiliye shayad hum dono itne ache dost hain bachpan se" he said while turning to me with a smile on his face.

"Haan'" I said softly and smiled back'we had an eye locking session for about a minute'his gaze was intense'it almost felt like he could read my eyes and tell what I was thinking about. Same went for me'I could also read his chocolaty brown eyes, they were trying to say something, not just something but many things, which I did not know, but maybe I would soon'

"So what store do you want to go to first?" he asked.

"Well'lets just go to the gifts section here at Macy's, maybe we'll find something for our parents'and then we could go to other stores to by stuff for the others." I replied.

"Sounds good!" he said.

So we went to the upper level of the store to the gifts/antics section. I spotted a nice hand watch which was silver in color; I thought I'd get it for Papa, it would suit him.

I showed it to Prem and he said "Wow'that's a really nice watch'you have great taste in getting gifts" he complimented. "I'm glad I got partnered up with you'now I won't have a problem selecting gifts" he said with a grin and winked at me.

"Very funny Prem'are you saying you just came to the mall with me so you could get good gifts for your family?" I said with a smirk on my face, trying to act like I got offended from his compliment, but I didn't, I was just joking around with him.

"Woah'when did I say that? What I meant to say was that apparently you have better ideas of shopping for families than me'I mean come on'I'm a boy'usually boy's don't do shopping'so they always need an assistance of a girl you know'" He said trying to hide his laugh, which was not missed by me.

"Oh I see how it is'.you're using me aren't you?" I said and showed him a cold shoulder; obviously I was just playing around with him.

"Heyy'.Heer'mein toh bas mazaak karaha tha'don't take it so seriously dude" He pleased.

"First of all don't call me dude'.and second of all'I was just kidding too'so no worries!" I said with a smile on my face, and we both started cracking up.

"Ab chalo'humein aur bhi gifts lene hain!" I said, and dragged him to another section so we could get gifts for the others.

For Mamma and Gayatri Chachi we got Jewelry Kit from the Jewelry section, for Lalit Chachu we got a red colored tie which he would look extremely handsome in! Then later on we went to Hollister and got both Veera and Meher two pairs of t-shirts and from Claire's a pair of earrings for both of them. Lastly for Preet and Tushar we got them the new iTouch, since Tushar was begging for one because his video iPod 'accidentally' broke, so I thought of getting the new kind for him and Prem also did for Preet. Finally we were done shopping, and landed up at the spot where we were to meet Meher, Preet, Tushar, and Veera. But we happened to be half an hour early because the others weren't done shopping. In the mean time Prem said,

"Um Heer'woh mujhe koi call attend karni hai'so I'll be back in a little while okay?" said Prem.

"Theek hai tum jao'mein yahin wait karti hoon" I replied.

"Alright see you in a little while"

Prem left to attend his phone call'but for some reason I felt like he was hiding something from me, I could tell by his eyes'but whatever'I guess I'm just over thinking. Meanwhile I was roaming around Express when I glanced at a fabulous looking shirt'just then an idea popped into my mind'why not get something for Prem? Of course! This t-shirt would totally suit him!! And he'd look quite sexy in it!! I quickly bought it and went outside to where I was waiting for Prem, within five minutes he arrived, I hid the bag so he wouldn't find out, or else he would question me. But I did spot an extra bag in his hands from Lord and Taylor.

So I asked, "Prem'why do you have a Lord and Taylor bag in your hand'we never went there to shop'" I questioned with curiosity.

"Oh'um actually'I'um'." He said while stammering. "I didn't get network here so I went inside Lord and Taylor and there I saw nice looking shoes, so I thought why not buy it for my self'" he said, trying to sound innocent as possible'but I didn't say anything cuz I new he wouldn't tell me the real reason behind it, I knew Prem too well, even as a kid, he would make up a lame excuse from not telling the right reason, abhi tak uski woh aadat nahin gayi'shayad log theek kehte hain'kuch aadatein kabhi nahin jaati.

Finally the others came and we left the mall.

"So'did you guys get everything you wanted at the mall?" I asked all four of them.

"Yeah di'we did'and it was really fun!" said Meher "and you know what di'I saw Harsh at Abercrombie and Fitch....you know the one who used to like you in high school?" Meher blurted out. "I didn't know he worked there'"

Uff'yeh ladki toh bilkul paagal hai'why the hell did she need to blurt this out?! That too right in front of Prem! Speaking of Prem, when I turned to look at him he had a tensed face and his fists were clenched together'was this supposed to mean something? Anyways, this stupid Meher had to bring this topic up at this moment didn't she? Uggh'little sisters'they're such big blabber mouths!!! Thankfully she was sitting behind my seat so I could see her though my rearview mirror so I glared at her giving the look of if-you-dare-say-this-again-I'll-beat-the-crap-out-of-you'which kind of made her shut up.

"Um Meher'I told you not to bring up his name again'that was way back in high school'and plus I didn't even like him'so its okay" I said trying to get things cleared up so the others wouldn't have questioning faces. The rest of the car ride home was silent'we reached home within fifteen minutes...and we all unloaded our bags into the house, when we entered we saw Gayatri Chachi and Lalit Chachu sitting in our living room having chai and chit-chatting.

"Arre tum sab aagaye?" asked mamma.

"Haan mamma" I responded.

"Toh kaisa laga? Sabh kuch theek thaak se milgaya na?"

"Yes Mamma'don't worry" said Tushar

"Acha theek hai'Heer tu Prem ko guest room dikhaade, Meher tu Veera ko apna kamra share karvaale aur Tushar tu Preet ko apna kamra share karvaale kyunki yeh log New Year's tak humaare saath hi rahenge'theek hai?" ordered my mom.

"Ji mamma" I said.

What?! They were staying till New Year's at our house??!! This must be a dream'I mean I'll be having Prem around me 24/7!! Aaaahhhh!!! How cool is that?? Yess!! Now I won't have to wish for Prem being here, cuz he's already going to be here!! Well at least till New Years!! Yay! This is one of the best days of my life! Trying not to look overly excited at this good news, I leaded Prem to the guest room which was ironically adjacent to mine! How lucky can I get!? Thank you baba ji! Apka lakh lakh shukar hai!!

As we entered I showed Prem the room.

"So this is your room'if you need anything'I'm next door so you can knock anytime you want without any hesitation'.okay?" I instructed.

"Alright'Thank you" he said politely.

"Arre isme thank you ki kya zarurat hai'remember'dosti mein na koi thank you na koi sorry'samjhe?"

"Yes mam!" he said putting his hand up to his forehead as if he was saluting to me'which made me giggle.

When I turned to leave'.he started to ask me a question "Um Heer'if you don't mind'may I ask who this Harsh guy is?" I knew it'something was bothering him'and it had to do something with Harsh liking me! I just knew it!

"Of course I don't mind'you're like my best friend'so why would I hesitate to answer that question'basically Harsh was this guy I knew since freshmen year in high school. He was in all my classes, from honors, to gym, to orchestra, and even in my study hall! We became friends, and he was quite nice to me, but I didn't know that his friendship towards me would turn into a liking ness towards me. In my opinion, Harsh was okay as a friend, but nothing more'he thought I liked him'but I actually didn't'and this kept going on till senior year when it was time for the Senior Prom, he asked me out, in fact he asked me out several times, but I was the one who kept on rejecting'cuz I never liked him'and I felt awkward to go to the Prom with him. He got really disappointed with me'and said he'll never talk to me ever again'and I was okay with it'since he was kind of going overboard with the whole 'going out' and liking thing so I just stayed away from him'and from that day on I didn't speak a word to him or meet him ever again'later on I figured out that he works at Abercrombie and Fitch'so I went there less often and even if I did, I'd ignore him'.so yeah'.that's my story'hope I didn't bore you with it'." I said.

"Don't worry'.I'm glad you trusted me to tell me this whole story'.Alright then, I'll just go freshen up a bit and I'll see you downstairs for dinner!" said Prem.

"Okay then'cya!"

You're probably wondering why I'm updating early'well first of all I didn't have that much homework and second of all I was getting bored so I thought why not update today!
