A king named Mahabali ruled kerala nd Lord Mahavishnu came in Vamana avatar n asked for 3 feets of land... King gave him the rite to take 3 feets of land.. lord Vamana then became gigantic n with first feet took Sky, 2nd feet took Earth...

soo King MAHABALI understood that it was Mahavishnu n gave his own head to take his 3rd feet..

thus Vamana send him to PAATHALA(under earth)

But one day in a year he visists his devotees... nd tat day IS ONAM
