I just made a comment in the KED thread about the torture I'm going through in my favourite local soapie when I realised while there is lots to complain about KYM, there is also lots to commend. Cos most of the time good does truimph over evil and they provide some sort of happy resolution even if it is just temporary before the next crisis hits. Most of the storylines I have seen in KYM has been done in some form or another in either an American, British or South African soap I have seen and usually the outcome in KYM is always less warped than it is in those soaps.
Partial Amnesia Track - In Young And The Restless, Nick met with an accident, that resulted in him forgetting the last year of his life. A year that saw his daughter die, him being unable to cope with the grief, cheating on his wife then leaving his wife for his mistress when she got pregnant. Now, he doesn't remember that he has married his mistress and they have a daughter and that his first wife has also remarried. So, now he wants to get back to his first wife while his second wife is facing prison time for blackmail. Yes, it's every bit as tawdry as it sounds and I have absolutely no sympathy for any one in this scenario. Even though we are a year behind the US episodes, I'm not even tempted to check on the net to see how this whole sorry mess resolves itself. 😡
Sukriti Pregnancy And Concealment Of Ritwik - No offense to the UK people, but East Enders has got to be the most depressing soap I have ever seen on TV. Gawd!!! If you think the measures Sukriti & Prachi took to hide Ritwik's true identity is drastic, that is nothing compared to what happened to Kat and Zoe Slater. Though I got to admit this was a very sad storyline. 😭 On Zoe's 16th birthday, it was revealed that Kat who she always thought was her older sister was actually her mother. Kat had fallen pregnant as a teenager and her parents ended up raising Zoe as their own daughter. So, instead of a Prachi Is Mom track, in that soap it was a Kat Is Sister track.
Love Against All The Odds - If you think Prachi and Milind have had a rough time that is absolutely nothing compared to Parsons and Nandipha on a local soap. Parsons was the sweet, good guy who instantly fell in love with the mysterious, beautiful Nandipha. She liked him also but kept him at arm's length. It turned out she was on the run from her abusive husband who was a notorious gangster. Parsons eventually won her over but then her husband kidnapped her. He raped her and held her hostage before he was killed in a police shoot out. Parsons and Nandipha were reunited but then they found out she had been infected with HIV by her ex-husband. But Parsons stood by her and helped her cope with her disease. And then inspite of opposition from his family they got married. Eventually Parsons' family came around but they still had to deal with the fact that they could not have children of their own. Along the way Nandipha became a famous television star, Parsons' family lost all their savings and Parsons had several business problems but all of this they managed to overcome together. Then Nandipha fell really ill and Parsons risked getting thrown in prision for smuggling in drugs from England to save her. So, having conquered all of these impossible odds, obviously nothing can break this couple, right? Wrong! Nandipha went overseas for a few months and as a result Parsons felt neglected and ended up having an affair with his colleague. Now he wants to divorce Nandipha and has moved in with his girlfriend. They have completely destroyed this wonderful couple and have butchered a character who was willing to die for his wife for a trite storyline such as adultery. 😡
So at the end of the day, KYM could be a lot worse. 😆
