Part 19

Prachi kept tossing and turning in her bed. She felt bad for lying to her mom but she had no other choice. But then again, had it been a lie?? She never did take Neev's name, did she?? She tried to console her with all the possibilities."Oh god, who am I trying to fool. I lied!!" and she closed her eyes. She hadn't been able to sleep waiting for Milind's call but her eyes gave away near dawn.

She woke up startled when Soumya shook her violently. "Di, udho papa naashte ke liye bula rahe hain(Di, wake up, dad is calling for breakfast)". "Hmmmm sone do na Soumya, bahut neend aa rahi hai(let me sleep soumya, I m very sleepy)" Prachi pulled the covers over her head. Soumya pulled the blanket away from her "Kiske sapne le rahi hain??Hmmm??(Whom are you dreaming about?)" Prachi woke up with a jolt and checked her phone for any missed calls. Her face dropped when she saw that Milind yet hadn't called her.
"Oh di, he will call, don't worry" her sister said empathically. "but you now get ready and come fast".

Prachi took her shower and was about to leave her room when her phone rang. She quickly picked it up and screamed into the phone "Tum ab phone kar rahe ho?? Main kabse wait kar rahi hoon?? (Why r u calling so late?I have been waiting for a long time)" Milind cringed on hearing her screaming "Hey Bhagwaan, Prachi aaram se, Main abhi pahuncha hoon, raaste mei tyre puncture ho gaya tha so thoda late ho gaya. Aur main to soch raha tha ki tum is waqt so rahi hogi(Oh God, take it slow, I just reached, had a flat tyre so got late a bit. I thought u must be sleeping)" Prachi felt a wave of relief wash all her fears and she said calmly this time "Oh ok. Sorry. I was just worried a bit." At the same time she heard her dad call her "Ok u go and take rest, We will talk later. Abhi papa mujhe bula rahe hain(dad is calling me)Bye " Milind ran his hands through his unruly hair tired to the bone from the journey "Ok bye love you" "Me too" She quickly replied. Throwing the phone on the bed she ran out for breakfast.

Daadi looked at Inder asking him sternly to talk to Prachi. Inder looked at Prachi who was silently eating up her breakfast and asked "Prachi Beta, Tumhare exams kab hai??(when do u have ur finals)" Prachi looked at her dad "Papa in two months and I have applied for a job. I just hope I get that." She said enthusiastically all the while munching on the food. "Beta, tumhare liye ek rishta aaya hai(We found a suitable match for u)" Inder said. Prachi's expression changed and she looked at her dad in horror. She shifted in her seat restlessly and finally said with a calm voice "Papa, no please. Abhi nahin. Let me finish my studies first". She pleaded. "Aree hum tumhari padaai thodi na rukwa rahe hain..hum to sirf tumhari marzi jaan na chahte hain.(We r not stopping u from continuing ur studies just asking ur opinion)" Inder said softly, he just wanted to know his daughter's opinion before he took a step further. "Nahin papa, mujhe iske baare mein abhi baat nahi karni.(No dad, I don't want to talk about it now)" She said. She tried to remain as calm as possible but only she knew the turmoil that was going on inside her. She wanted to tell her dad that she was in love with Milind but don't good daughters listen to their parents wishes? But she also knew her dad would be happy in her happiness, doesn't matter who it lay with.

"Lekin beta woh ladka koi aur nahi.." but before Inder took tell her, his phone rang and he excused himself signalling his mother not to continue without him. Prachi sighed a relief as of now the conversation was avoided but for how long, she worried.

Prachi thought her life just couldn't get any easier when she saw Neev walk up the front door. Neev looked at her surprised when she gave him dagger looks. "Tum yahan kyun aaye ho??(why are you here?)" She questioned him as she literally jumped from her chair in his direction pulling him towards another direction away from the dining table. Neev looked at her with confusion. "Look who woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. Whatz wrong with you today."

Caressing his arm that Prachi had been holding with such a force even she didn't know she had, he continued "Aaj tum achanak chandi devi kaise ban gayi?". "Oh shutup Neev, I told mom that u went to Delhi last night, why r u here??" She replied frantically. "Now why in the world would you say that??Hmmmm" He looked at her confused when suddenly his eyes lit up "Kahin kal raat tum pakdi to nahin gayi???(I hope you didn't get caught last night)" he asked with concern. Judging from Prachi's behaviour and her scared eyes he knew he had guessed it right. He stiffed a laughter "Ziada dande to nahi pade na???(Hope u didn't get spanked)" Prachi looked angrily as if she would murder him right this moment. "Oh Sorry sorry, I was joking, achcha bataao kya hua kal raat??(Ok tell me what happened last night)" he asked. Prachi then told him quickly how her mother saw his car and she made up an excuse. Neev listened with much amusement "Prachi, tum bhi na. Now I can't keep hiding for ever. Anyways I just came to see how you were doing and to tell you that I am leaving day after tomorrow" Pushing him out the door she said, "Achcha achcha, ab jaao yahan se agar ma ne dekh liya to sab gardbard ho jayegi aur ab yahan mat aana. Just call me.(ok ok, now go before mom sees u and don't come here.)"

After sending Neev away, Prachi went to her room satisfied that nobody saw Neev. She thought a little studying will do her good. She needed to study if she wanted to pass but she was too shaken up to grasp anything she was reading. It seemed as if the words were staring right back at her and she didn't understand them. She read the same line over and over again still it didn't make any sense to her. Exhausted she shut the book and flopped her body on her bed. She closed her eyes and tried to relax and tried to get some sleep.

Inder came back to dining table after taking the call. "Neev aaya hai?(Is Neev here?)" he asked. PL looked at him with confusion and shook her head in negative. "I think I heard his voice" Said Inder explaining. "Aapko zaroor koi galat fehmi hui hai..yahan to koi bhi nahi aaya" (U must be mistaken, there is nobody else here) PL replied. She knew Neev wasn't here, he had left for Delhi last night. She looked at her husband going over the newspaper and wondered if she should share yesterday night's incident with him. But she decided to talk to Prachi about it before bringing Inder into all this.

Neharika had been planning for this day for a long time. And today she was happier than ever. This would be the best thing that ever happened to her or her family. She was just too happy to sit in one place and was overjoyed at seeing Neev enter the house. "Neev, beta tum subah subah kahan chale gaye the??"(Neev, son where did u go out so early) Neev looked at his mom anxiously. "Main kab se tumhari wait kar rahi hoon. Mujhe tumse ek bahut zaroori baat karni hai" (I have been waiting for u for so long. I have to tell u something very important)saying she caressed his cheek and brought him to sit with her on the sofa.

"Mom kya hua??(what happened)" Neev asked as he looked at his overjoyed mother.
"Neev, Maine tumhari shaadi karne ka faisla kar liya hai."(I have decided to get u married) She said finally. Neev looked at her with horror and disbelief. She continued "Kal hi maine Inder Bhaisahib se baat ki hai. Unko koi aitraaz nahi hai lekin woh pehle Prachi se baat karna chahte hain aur main jaanti hoon ki Prachi is rishte ke liye kabhi na nahin kahegi"(I had a talk with Inder yesterday, he is ready but wants to talk to Prachi first. I m sure Prachi will have no objection)

Listening to her mom talk about his and Prachi's marriage, Neev bursted out laughing loudly. "Mom, u must be joking. Main aur Prachi??" Neharika looked at Neev with surprise and soon her surprise turned into anger. "Chup Neev. Yeh paagalon ki tarah hasna band karo" (Stop it Neev. Stop laughing like a fool)

Neev couldn't help but laugh at his mom's tactics to get him married to Prachi. He finally caught up with his breath "Mom, Prachi yeh shaadi ke liye kabhi raazi nahin hogi" (Prachi will never agree for this marriage)

"Aree kyun nahi hogi?? Woh tumhari itni achchi dost hai aur hum sab ne tum dono ka hamesha ek doosre ke liye pyaar dekha hai. Woh mana nahi karegi" (Why won't she agree?? She is such good friend of yours and we all have seen the love between the two of you. She won't refuse.) Neharika tried reasoning with her son.

"Lekin ma, Main Prachi se pyaar nahin karta. Woh sirf meri achchi dost hai bas." (But mom, I don't love Prachi, she is just my good friend, thats it.)Neev got up from the sofa. He never thought his parents saw his friendship with Prachi like that.

"To theek hai na, main konsa tumhe us ke saath pyaar karne ko keh rahi hoon. Main to sirf tumhe Prachi se shaadi karne ko keh rahi hoon. Ek baar shaadi ho jayegi to pyaar bhi ho jayega"(Its ok. I am not asking you to love her, only to marry her. Once you two are married, you will fall in love with her)

Neev looked at his mom with disgust "Nahin ma, main yeh shaadi nahi karoonga"(No mom, I will not marry Prachi) he said with an ultimatum and left. He wanted to tell his mom that they both loved other people but decided against it. He wanted to make sure Prachi was ready to tell her parents about Milind before he blurted out anything. As soon as he reached his room, he called Prachi to tell her about his mom's plans. He dialed her cell again and again but Prachi didn't pick up. He threw his phone in frustation. He was mad at his mom and now at Prachi for not taking his call. "Yeh Prachi phone kyun nahi utha rahi??"(Why is prachi not picking up her phone?)

Neharika looked at her son leave in a fury and a wicked smile crept her face. "Neev, Shaadi to tumhaari Prachi ke saath hi hogi aur Purvi ke liye Milind se achcha ladka mujhe nahi milega. Mere dono bachche maalamaal ho jayege aur unke saath main bhi" (Neev, u will get married to Prachi and for Purvi, I won't find anybody better than Milind. Both of my kids will be rich and so will I)

poor NP, looks like niharika is going to go charging ahead just for wealth 😡 and niharika actually wants milsi to marry purvi 🤢
