Yesterday we saw Prachi very nearly do what her sister and sister-in-law tried to do before her i.e, jump from the cliff (would like to know where exactly is this cliff which provides a convenient escape route for lost souls).
Anyway, the reason I think she first attempted it in the first place is that for her, her marriage was her life (her lines from the waterfall scene). And I would add that her life was her marriage. Both were synonymous. As long as one lasted the other will last. Since she has fought and lost her battle to save her marriage she felt her life was meaningless. Without her marriage she had no life. Thus the attempt to end her worthless life.
She, however, stopped herself from doing that because as long as she had that mangalsutra around her neck, her marriage existed, atleast for her, if not for the world. So she could not go ahead and take away her life when her marriage was still alive and kicking.
That is why she tried to break her mangalsutra so that she can free herself from the bond of the marriage which was preventing her from taking that extreme step.
But try as she may she could not get away from her marriage; she could'nt break her mangalsutra because she just did not have the strength or the heart to do it.
That is why she finally collapsed accepting defeat that her marriage and her life will have to continue, however difficult it may be for her to survive the pain.
So the courts of this country may pronounce her divorce. They may legally seperate her from her beloved husband. But she can never spend one moment away from him as long as she breathes. She will always be linked to him in the marriage of souls which goes far beyond the marriage of bodies.
