10 Men that rocked on TV in 2005
Amitabh Bachchan rocks, period. There are hazaar reasons why he rocked this year too, despite a tough phase due to a serious surgery as the year ended. The superstar who had an astounding number of releases in 2005, also continued to be India's biggest television stars with a record number of TV sightings endorsing anything from a washing powder to a chocolate brand. He was as charismatic and deadly in the second innings of his game show, 'Kaun Banega Crorapati' as in the first season of the show. He ruled the small screen in his Shantanu - Nikhil outfits and his awe-inspiring persona. 'KBC Dwitiya' as he called it started around mid-year and will be on till March 2006.

With two rib-tickling shows this year - the 'Great Indian Laughter Challenge' and 'The Great Indian Comedy Show', Shekhar Suman regained his position as one of the most popular guys on TV. A leading magazine bestowed the title of the 'most popular face on television' on this Bihari babu. His spoofs on actors, cricketers and politicians sent the nation roaring with laughter. His laser sharp wit and inimitable style on both the shows were reminiscent of his talk show, 'Movers and Shakers'. His career is rocking and he has signed three films; one with Perizaad Zorabian, one with his co-host Navjot Sidhu and Omar Shariff from Pakistan and the third one is a semi-autobiography based on a father-son relationship where the son is terminally ill.

He is the poster boy of Indian television. This ex. documentary filmmaker started out with Balaji's 'Kya Haadsa Kya Haqeeqat' and then he took a big leap with another Balaji serial. Rajeev Khandelwal ruled the hearts of millions of people especially girls as Sujal of 'Kahiin To Hoga' left the serial in May this year resulting in mass protests. His on screen chemistry with co-star Aamna Shariff further added to his popularity. Meanwhile, he joined the big-budget serial 'Time Bomb' and simply rocked as Varun. The TRPs of the channel and the serial soared to dizzying heights thanks to Rajeev as fans lapped up even this avatar of their favourite TV guy. After winning 'Personality of the year award' for two years in a row, the latest role that Rajeev has taken up is that of ACP, Prithviraj of the popular crime drama 'CID' replacing the existing ACP.

Indian Idol Abhijeet Sawant was mobbed wherever he went, fans coaxing him to sing a line, event managers running after him for concert dates and girls crying their hearts out when he announced his engagement. The amount of hysteria he generated and adulation he received from his fans would make even a movie star go green with envy. He simply rocked the nation with people buying 70.000 copies of his album 'Aapka Abhijeet Sawant' on the first day itself. After competing against hundreds of contestants, this Marathi manoos became the first 'Indian Idol', a talent hunt on the lines of 'American Idol' hosted by Sony Entertainment Television. A swanking new car, a brand new house and film offers; life is rocking post 'Indian Idol' for aapka Abhijeet.
Apoorva Agnihotri
Jassi's Armaan Sir aka Apoorva Agnihotri is one guy who despite his grey shades has always been extremely popular with the women viewers; age no bar. 2005 was no different as sir ji rocked all the way from Gulmohar to 'Nach Baliye'. Many studs joined the show ('Jassi') including Sameer Soni, Karan Oberoi and Parmeet Sethi but Apoorva held his position as the most popular guy on the show and the guy who ends up getting married to Jassi. He and his lovely actress wife, Shilpa made an early exit from the dance contest, 'Nach Baliye', but Apoorva hip-hopped his way into the hearts of the judges especially Malaika Arora in the finals where he was one of the contenders for the 'Best Male Dancer' title

Karan Johar rocked big time with his cuppa Koffee this year. On his talk show, 'Koffee with Karan', the guy got the best guest pairs possible - Shah Rukh - Kajol, Amitabh - Abhishek, Esha Deol - Shahid Kapoor, Zeenat Aman - Hema Malini, Abhishek - Preity, Rani - Kareena and Saif - Preity to name a few. A hot shot filmmaker, Karan endeared himself to the TV viewers with his trademark boyish charm and the gift of the gab. He teased his guest 'friends' with questions that no other talk show host would dare to ask or would be awkward asking. Needless to say, the show and its re-runs were eagerly awaited every week.

Varun Badola was a revelation for many as a rocking dude this year thanks to 'Nach Baliye'. Apart from his serials this year, 'Astitva Ek Prem Kahaani' and 'Rabba Ishq Na Hove', the guy showed his versatility in the various rounds of the dance competition, 'Nach Baliye'. But the clincher for this 'romantic' guy was the final round where he was adjudged the 'Best Male Dancer' getting a standing ovation from the judges as well as the contestants. He was super-cool in the spoof he did of his 'blanking-out' in the semi-finals. We were floored Varun!

Eijaz Khan had a rocking time playing Kkavya this year. Coming as a replacement in the serial 'Kkavyanjali', this hunky actor wooed not just the heroine but all his female fans too. The serial soared to an astounding viewership rating after he joined the show. He even won the best On Screen Couple award along with co-star, Anita at the Indian Telly awards. The guy who left home as a teenager and lived life on his own terms and conditions finally made it big with not just 'Kkavyanjali' but also for his roles in serials like 'Kesar', 'Kkoi Dil Mein Hai' and 'Kahin to Hoga'.
Iqbal Khan
Iqbal Khan, better known as Angad of 'Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai' hit the big league with just one serial in hand. This Kashmiri heartthrob who had earlier done some flop films got an overwhelming response for his 'rock star' role in the serial. His good looks combined with his impressive voice and acting skills have made him a force to reckon with on TV. Shabbir Ahluwalia who was adjudged the 'Style Icon of the year' at the Indian Telly awards had a great 2005. The guy who once aspired to be a sportsman has become one of the best loved guys of Indian television. He first found popularity as Rishi Grewal of 'Kahin To Hoga' by Balaji. This year he was also seen in 'Kkavyanjali'. Known as Ekta's blue-eyed boy, he is slated to feature in plum roles in her forthcoming ventures. One show that really rocked for Shabbir this year was 'Nach Baliye'.
