The audience was never told why he was trying to kill Milind - yet another unfinished story like Inder's murder. Was he just an experiment for Trps.

I think if they had pursued a Soumya/Ranvir pairing thus leading to a MICHI disagreement then Kayamath may have retained the viewer's attention rather than going with the leap fiasco, which Opti rightly pointed out was a goof-up itself!!
