exactly my question? i really hate it when the father shown so helpless front of groom's family and all that, makes me so mad, i can't stand that show( alok nath's character is such a drama queen, always crying and begging)

Kimmi, it saddens me if this is what they want to show Indian housewives.. "patriarchy, helpless women and compromising lives".

Unfortunately...this is a reality in many homes in India especially in the rural areas. A lot of indian housewives identify with the characters as they themselves or people they know may have come across similar situations. It may be slightly different in the metros but in essence, the indian culture of extended families brings up endless possibilites regarding conflicts etc.
Ekta...and most of the other production houses are just cashing in on these issues but their versions are hugely exaggerated for impact (specially the unreal storylines involving multiple and cross marriages and ONS).
Here in the UK...the Star Channels (including Star Plus) are included as part of the basic package by our largest satellite provider. As such...it is available to the whole population for viewing in the British Isles....with subtitles. I have a number of english friends who constantly ask me if cross-marriages are acceptable in India and if what is shown is a true portrayal of the indian culture in India.

i was a fan of american soaps all my life, but 5 years ago surfing my channels i found this buff gentleman and it was none other than shabbir in kahiin to hoga. i was attracted by him and since then i' am a big fan of k serials. now i know that we are attracted by the actors and not by what ekta is writing because it's just stupidity we are watching .she needs to acts quick, or she will lose the audience.is she the only producer over there?from kaswetta.

Yes Ekta is overdoing and manipulating Indian culture. I wish she being a woman herself portrayed women better in her serials. The thing is she doesn't show soaps set in Champaner (village) but actually set in Mumbai/Delhi/Kolkatta in rich families but people behaving like they were from 19th century.

Shabbir Ahluwalia seems to be sticking to Ekta camp... I feel it's our loss that he doesn't do other's movies. Hope he does in future.

i am not from india so do not know about there but in uk there is no shortage of good shows Desperate housewives, own soaps like eastenders , supernanny etc infact for some stupid reason i pick asian serials over them if they on at the same time...reason i like balaji shows is for indian soaps qualty mean sets, costumes etc i find them better than some and none of the other serials do masala like balaji serials. However asian serials lose my interest quite fast too....i can watch a half hour episode in 10 mins if its really bad episode
