Reality Shows, Job Shows rule Indian TV

Reality shows in Indian television, having carved out careers for aspiring singers, has taken steps into the recruitment scene with its newest entrant, The Job Show. Though not exactly on the lines Donald Trumps The Apprentice, the fun element promise to be similar. At the end of it all, like the aforesaid show, the participants would actually leave with a job in their hands.

An initiative from the leading job portal Naukri.com and CNBC TV18, Indias first ever-televised job hunt, The Job Show is already on air from February 2006. Management and brand consultant Sunil Alagh is hosting the show and he provides a chance for the aspirants to win some of the hottest jobs in the market today. Over 3800 young aspirants have already applied. According to Naukri.com officials, they are expecting most applicants to be in the 0-1 experience level group.

The show is a 26-half hour episode show being aired every Saturday, with a repeat show on Sunday afternoon. The idea of the job hunt show apparently came about after witnessing the success of reality shows like Indian Idol, Fame Gurukul and several other reality shows. The reality shows, as a genre is gaining ground in India. There are quite a number of reality shows today in the News segment like for instance the crime shows, and in the entertainment segment which include the like of KBC, the Indian Idol, Sa Re Ga Ma Challenger, MTV Roadies to name a few. It is emerging as a new area within programming, which most TV channels and television production houses are seeing value in.

According to Zee TV marketing head Tarun Mehra, "Reality shows really work well. Just as we see that a particular show is ending, the channels and the producers start working to launch the second series of the same show, thereby indicating that the success of some of these popular reali ty shows is creating demand for more reality-based programmes". P

rocedure Applications from aspirants will be sent to the HR department of the respective companies. The companies will then shortlist the candidates on the basis of their respective criteria. During this process, the company might contact the applicants for an e-test or a telephonic interview.

Naukri.com and CNBC will announce the names of the five shortlisted candidates, ten days from the close of the call for applications. These candidates will then be flown to Mumbai, where the episodes will be shot. On the show, there will be five rounds conducted by Sunil Alagh and two senior management people from the recruiting company. Results will be declared at the end of each episode. So, within a span of 30 minutes, candidates will walk away with their dream job.

With the employment outlook index looking positive within the country and companies looking to hire more freshers, this could prove to be a new avenue of opportunity for aspirants. Close to 15 companies, have come on board for The Job Show and have agreed to offer jobs through this show. Some of these companies are Flextronics Software Systems, LG Electronics, Impetus Technologies, DNA, Yes Bank, Aviva Life Insurance and Denstu.
