Even from his stretcher in hospital, Amitabh Bachchan has been an inspiration to a little patient in Lilavati.
Mehul Wadhavekar was being taken by his father from his tenth floor room to the consultation rooms on the ground floor yesterday afternoon, when he was surprised to find the grey-bearded icon lying on a stretcher in the same elevator.
''I have always seen him laughing, talking and fighting on screen, but seeing him on the stretcher bed hurt me,'' said Mehul, only seven.
It was about 1.40 pm when Amitabh was being taken for a CT Scan from his room on the eleventh floor.
''As the elevator door opened, we rushed into the huge lift and found Big B lying on the stretcher, his eyes open, along with Abhishek and daughter Shweta,'' said Mehul's father Markand.
''He stared at me blankly,'' Mehul described. ''Amit uncle looked tired and pale. Seeing him this way I did not know what to do. I gave him a smile half-heartedly, but Amit uncle just stared upwards.''
Mehul's father explained that the little boy who was initially reluctant to go ahead with treatment at the hospital, started cooperating after the brief encounter with the star.
The family, from Badlapur, preferred not to describe Mehul's problem.
