*Before I start- I'd just like to thank all who have supported me, and convinced me to write this FF. I love you guys! And this is my very first part of my very first FF... so feel free to critisize, and I am not good at all with all the "facts, laws, and what not... haha so my FF may often times seem very ficticious. But enjoy!
When Opposites Attract
Part 1: Her Life
"And the top student for this semester is… Oh, I should have known! It's none other than Ms. Kasturi Chawla!"
The crowd cheered, as she lifted herself off the chair. She carefully caressed her navy printed skirt and tried not to trip-, as she was a master in embarrassing herself at the wrong situations. Kasturi walked down the familiar aisle. She tried her level best to look surprised. Receiving such awards had become nothing new to her, yet the feeling of achieving always brought a smile to her face.
She scanned the people seated in rows. Most of them were strangers, and the only familiar face seemed to belong to her father JP. Kasturi's mother had passed away when she was 5, so both the motherly and fatherly affection had always come from her dad. For Kasturi, JP was everything. Aside from being her parent- he was her friend. The bond they shared was not a mere "Father daughter" relationship; it was a deep friendship- something a lot of families didn't usually share.
But there were still days where Kasturi wondered how having a mother would be like. She tried hard to not think about such things- but inside she felt an emptiness- a void of not having a motherly figure in her life.
"Typical." She saw some kids mouth the words at one another.
She saw others give her dirty looks. At first these kinds of gestures worried Kasturi. Like most teenagers, she wanted to "fit" in, but as time passed and Kasturi matured; the whole popularity thing didn't matter anymore.
At a very young age Kasturi had gone through a lot and had made some poor choices by becoming friends with the wrong people. But her past was behind her now. She had forgotten the dark eras of her life and had opened up a new beginning, a bright future.
"Congrats!" said principal Gupta (played by Ram Kapoor aka Jai Walia in Kasamhe se), as he vigorously shook her hand.
"Ouch." Kasturi bit her lower lip, trying not to moan. The man's grip was hard and he squeezed her fingers tightly together.
Mr. Gupta presented Kasturi with a golden plague that read "Most honored student of Crescent Uni."
"One more to add in the trophy cabinet." She thought to herself.
Kasturi tried to smile, but she was too tired to forge one. She peered down at the hundreds of students below her. Most of them chatted, and looked away distracted. Others watched, stealing glances of jealousy. But one person in particular that Kasturi noticed was Raunak.
Raunak always cheered and clapped for Kasturi. He was always there to share her happiness. Kasturi knew that Raunak was teased since forever. She had remembered during junior high, some of the kids called him "four eyes, teacher's pet, and so on. She felt so bad for them that she had insisted that they could become friends. And soon, their friendship had become a very important part of Kasturi.
Part of her felt sorry for him. Raunak wasn't like all the other kids- he was different. Raunak was diagnosed with ADHD. ADHD was commonly found in kids. Usually, people with ADHD found it hard to concentrate- and therefore didn't always do well in school. Some people- like him had anger problems. But unlike those people, Raunak had anger tantrums once in a blue moon- but when he did, they usually ended up severe. The only person who seemed to calm him down was Kasturi. He would sometimes hurt her unknowingly- but that didn't matter. She loved Raunak! He was like the brother she never had.
"Kasturi. You've done us proud!" said the head administrator
Kasturi smiled shyly and thanked everyone for the award. In about half an hour, the assembly was over and everybody headed to their usual classes. Kasturi met up with Raunak and stopped for a drink at the fountains.
"Aw how sweet! Four eyes and Rag doll are SO in love!"
Kasturi was mid-way of sipping some water when she heard Anita and her posy approach her.
Kasturi- "Anita! Why don' you just… I Dunno how about SHUT UP!"
Anita: "Make me you poor loser!"
Anita pushed Kasturi against the wall.
Kasturi could see Raunak's temper rise. She quickly steadied herself and took hold of his arm.
Kasturi: Raunak- lets go.
Anita: Why Kassturi? Afraid your little boyfriend might blow up?
Kasturi clenched her wrists. She didn't want to get violent- at least, not now right here in front of Raunak.
Kasturi: Anita- take my advice. Get- A- LIFE! Want me to spell it out for you? Because with that IQ of yours- I'm sure it'll take a while before it begins to function through that square head of yours.
Anita (gritting teeth): Why you little…
She raised her hands to slap Kasturi, when Mr. Wilson- science professor approached them.
Mr. Wilson: Anything wrong here ladies?
Anita (in her usual manipulating tone): N-no Mr. W, I was just telling Kasturi here how happy I am for her.
Mr. Wilson: Okay then. Get to class.
He smiled and walked off to wherever it was that he was going.
Anita: Watch out Kassturi. You AND your boyfriend. When Anita Mehra's mad- she will destroy anything and EVERYTHING!
Kasturi watched Anita and her little gang leave.
Anita's threats meant nothing to her- anymore. She knew that Anita was only big in words- but she didn't have the guts to follow through. Often times Kasturi wondered what had gone wrong between them. They were once inseparable- until…
"Why did you take that crap?" asked Raunak, breaking her thoughts.
"Because Raunak. I don't have the time to argue with someone I don't find important."
"She didn't hurt you did she? I swear- if there's one scratch on you I will KILL that loser!"
Kasturi laughed. She wondered why Raunak was so possessive over her. Sometimes it was scary- but she knew that he was only trying to protect her.
Raunak: Okay I gotta go to math.
Kasturi: See ya!
She watched Raunak leave. Kasturi still had a few minutes in hand, so she decided to leave for study hall.
"Kassy! PSST!"
She felt someone's hands grab her shoulders.
Kasturi (totally startled): Oh my god!
There in front of her stood a girl dressed in an electric blue and green salwar suit. She looked so familiar. Kasturi took a closer glance.
"Oh my gosh it's her!"
"Muski! Oh my god! I missed you like hell!"
Kasturi hugged Muskaan like she hadn't seen her in years! Kasturi and Muskaan were two very different people. While Kasturi was shy and an academic genius- Muskaan was a bubbly chatterbox/ the biggest drama queen she had ever known! Muskaan tended to space out and loose herself in the world of "boys" quite often. Kasturi on the other hand believed in fate, and so she waited for her soul mate.
"OYE! Kassy! What's with you! You're always saying that I loose concentration- then what world are you living in! Anyways, I have soooo much to tell you yaar! Main na Australia main BOHUT masti kiya! It was SO totally awesome! I told you to come along. But noo you couldn't stand to miss school! Oh my god- like my outfit!
Kasturi didn't know what to answer with. She wasn't a very convincing liar- and Muskaan knew her inside and out.
Muskaan: So anyways… I totally forgot to tell you that I was coming back today! Well I actually came back at 11 pm- so technically yesterday, but I figured you were sleeping you know? Oh and guess what!"
Kasturi had hoped that Muskaan would shut up soon. She remembered having the exact same conversation when she had returned from Middle East. Every time Muskaan went traveling- she brought along millions of stories to tell. Most of them started with "I met this hot guy!" And they always ended with "Kassy you're so boring! Do something in life! Get a boyfriend!"
"BRRRNNG!"
Muskaan: DAMN! Stupid bell always rings at the wrong time! Ugh! Anyways Kassy- I'll see you after class- oh and I have SO much to tell you!
Kasturi smiled and gave her best friend a quick hug before both departed to their destinations.
@mimi that was amazing sunshine.. and i loved how refreshing it was, the way you described kasturi and anita's banter was totally bang on to school talk.. totally luved it and i'm so touched that Ronauk has ADHD (for it gives awarness out and its so important people realize that its not the kids fault and that they just need an environment and friends that stand by them, it very touching to see kasturi and ronauk bonding and sticking up for each other, ohh and so anita and kas were inseperable at once? suspense and you know how much i luv suspense, cant wait for robbie's entry. and i luved Ram Kapoor as the principle with his current look totally suits him.. astonishingly wicked part, and ohhh forgot i luved how JP is a bestfriend/father to kasturi..(very sweet for of course we all are daddy's little princess's in the end😳). awesome writer mimi you are, and i'm soo happy for you. Honestly i believe the hardest part to write is the first part for you have to create enough interest to bring the reader back, and you've done that buckets full.. so waiting eagerly for the next part..🤗 to you for being so courageous to post a fanfic, for seriouly i could never do that at your age.. so its a huge privileage that i know someone as talented as you... sunshine.👏

Yea, I haven't seen anyone (well the FF's I read) have a character who has ADHD, and I decided well... why not give it a shot- for I know how it is to have it. My cousin, friends many people I love have it- and it isnt a disease like many poeple think of it to be, its normal. And as you said: People with learning disabilities are human too and its high time we realise that. 😉
ohh and so anita and kas were inseperable at once? suspense and you know how much i luv suspense, cant wait for robbie's entry. and i luved Ram Kapoor as the principle with his current look totally suits him..
Yep yep! I'm trying to keep some suspense LOL but Im not very good at it 😕 But Im trying haha! Robbie will enter soon- Promise, I mean how long can I keep the sould of the FF away for too long? And well I had a hard time deciding who should be the principal, and I was thinking along the lines of jolly, and I dont know why but I thought of Ram Kapoor haha.

Aw di thanks! Im honestly VERY surprised. And that means SOOO much coming from someone as talented as yourself. I feel like soaring on the seventh heaven- if ya know what I mean 😉 And I really REALLY hope to get this much support throughout, because being a first timer- the appreciation I've recieved is too much for words. And I dont know how many times I can thank you for being there for me dii! It means more then you'll ever know!
