Rishabh opened his eyes when he felt a heavy weight on himself, for a moment he was confused when he saw the barbie doll fan rotating on top of his head. He then remembered that it was his turn to read the bed-time story to their kids, and maybe he dozed off in their room itself. Another pat on his chest broke Rishabh’s trance and he looked down at his little boy who was seated on his abs with a small grin on his face for having disturbed his father’s sleep successfully
‘Good morning champ…’
Rishabh spoke in a baby-like voice but kept his tone soft as he didn’t want to wake up his elder daughter Kukki who was fast asleep next to him. Pulling his son closer to his face Rishabh rubbed his nose on his belly, the sheer giggles that filled the room brought a big smile on Rishabh’s face as well.
‘Dadda…no…’
The little boy managed to say in the middle of his giggles. Karan was just about to turn two and was now learning to speak, every time he would say ‘Dadda' Rishabh’s heart would swell with joy. And though the baby asked Rishabh to stop tickling him, his father was in no mood to pay heed. At last, Karan used the only trick he knew to stop Rishabh and grabbed his hair in a fist making him wince.
‘Okay fine…. I won’t tickle you’
Rishabh spoke and tried hard to control his laughter his son surely knew how to get people to give into his demand from now itself; Rishabh thought to himself. He checked on the wall clock and noticed that it was just 8 in the morning, he looked at his son
‘Great, so now you won’t let me sleep peacefully on a Sunday as well?’
He fake scolded Karan who only grinned back at him, Rishabh chuckled softly and shook his head before getting off the bed before the duo woke Kukki up as well. He grabbed his phone from the side table and exited the room
‘Okay, so bataye ki aap itna jaldi kyun uth gaye?’
Rishabh asked his son as they descended the stairs, Karan pointed towards the kitchen tried to communicate to his father why he had woken up so early
‘Food.. food…’
The little boy was almost jumping with excitement in his father’s arms, who was rolling his eyes he should have taken a guess that the kid might be hungry. Grabbing the baby chair from the dining table with one hand, Rishabh walked into the kitchen. Once he was sure that Karan was comfortably seated in the chair Rishabh went to the cabinet to grab his cereal box
‘Naaa…’
Karan exclaimed in his baby voice just as Rishabh was about to pour the cereal in his bowl. Rishabh frowned and looked at him
‘What happened Champ, you are hungry right?’
Karan nodded his head rigorously in affirmation
‘Then why are you saying no for cereal?’
Rishabh asked and his son tried to answer his question
‘Noo cee-cee-ruulll for breakkyyy Dadda…’
‘But this is what we have for breaky Champ
Rishabh spoke in a soft voice, he hoped that his son could understand his position, Rishabh Bajaj could not cook, in fact it took him several attempts to learn the proper measurements to make a perfect bowl of cereal for Karan that was neither too runny nor too thick
‘Nooo…’
Karan said once again and he wrapped his tiny arms around his chest, he had observed his elder sister do this. Though he didn’t know what it meant and why she would do that, but right now he thought that it would be the perfect time to mimic his sister. Rishabh gaped as he saw his son act like this, he knew that kids pick up things very quickly but he had no clue that Karan was so observant. He mentally made a note to keep a check on how they acted and what they did around Karan.
‘But you know that Dadda does not know how to cook anything else… how…’
Rishabh could not even finish his sentence because his son now looked at him with cute puppy dog eyes and a small pout on his face. That one look was enough for Rishabh to succumb to his demand, he sighed
‘Fine, then what will you have?’
Rishabh asked Karan as he set the box of cereal aside, he just hoped that his kid would settle for something that would be easy for him to make. He didn’t miss the glint that shone in Karan’s eyes as soon as he had spoken his words, the kid took a minute to think
‘Choocyyy shake…’
Karan jumped in his chair when he finally had figured out what he wanted to have, Rishabh laughed a bit at his son's excitement and his luck, he could surely make a chocolate milkshake for his son. Without any further ado Rishabh started his task of making the chocolate milkshake.
If anyone would have witnessed this scene they would have been surprised to see how the world’s biggest Businessman was being so easily dominated by a toddler. Maybe because Rishabh was a father who wanted nothing but his kid to be happy or the fact that Karan was a Bajaj and he knew how to get his way with others, had it been so easy for Karan to get Rishabh to fulfil his demand.
It took Rishabh less than five minutes to make the chocolate milkshake, now his other task was to feed it to his son. He realised it only a little later that Karan’s sipper was up in the room and now leaving the baby alone would be a bad idea, thus he just poured milkshake in a glass and put a straw in it, that might make it easier for Karan to sip it. His baby boy was really excited to have this experience of sipping from a glass for the first time. He clapped his tiny hands as Rishabh held the glass in front of him, he placed his tiny hands on top of Rishabh’s big one and started sipping on the straw.
At one point when Karan blew in the straw by mistake he saw some bubbles form in the glass and now this was a game that he wanted to play so he repeatedly blew in the straw. Rishabh smiled brightly as his son enjoyed himself, he grabbed his phone from his pocket and captured these moments. While playing his game Karan had also managed to spill some milkshake on his father’s t-shirt when he blew a little too strongly and earned a glare from him
‘Okay champ, enough fun. Now quickly finish this, come on!’
Rishabh spoke in a not too stern voice as he ordered his son now and luckily for him Karan did not throw any further tantrums and just finished his drink. Rishabh picked a napkin and whipped the corner of Karan’s mouth before dumping the glass in the dishwasher and finally freeing him from the baby chair.
‘Dadda ...play…’
Karan put forward his next demand, and somewhere Rishabh knew that was going to happen. He gladly walked in their garden and put Karan down, the baby shrieked in joy as the damp grass touched and tickled his feet. He held Rishabh’s finger in his tiny fist as they walked towards the small play garden. The slides were damp too because of the morning dew so Rishabh just picked a ball and started to kick it, his son running after it to grab the big ball and struggle to hold it in his small hands. Rishabh grinned at him and then asked Karan to kick the ball with his feet. Karan did what he was asked to do, he laughed as he kicked the ball twice and was successful in it, but the third time the poor boy lost his balance that resulted in him falling on the grass on his bum. Rishabh was quickly by his side and he was worried that Karan might start crying but instead his son was giggling at his fall. He ruffled Karan’s hair and sat in front of him on the grass. He took off his dirty t-shirt and placed it aside before he rolled the ball in Karan’s direction and the duo played with it for a few more minutes before the baby got bored of the game. He lay on the grass on his stomach and giggled as he watched his father do the same. They both lay basking in the morning sun in silence for a few moments
‘Dadda…’
Karan called out to his father in a sweet voice, Rishabh prepared himself to give into another demand of his son
‘Yes champ?’
Rishabh asked in an equally sweet voice. His little devil smile at him as he crawled towards his father and climbed on his back
‘Daddaaa… horsieee lidee’
Karan patted his tiny palms on Rishabh’s hard back in an attempt to encourage his father to become his horse. Rishabh let out a chuckle and placed his one arm behind Karan’s back as he lifted his body to come in a plank position.
‘Hold daddy tightly’
Rishabh said to Karan and his son once again did what he was asked to do. When he felt Karan place his tiny palms flat on his back, Rishabh started doing pushups with his one hand still securing Karan in his place. Karan started giggling and laughing as he enjoyed his ‘horse-ride’; the sound of his laughter was like music for Rishabh.
‘More.. more…’
Karan demanded and leaned ahead to grab Rishabh’s hair in his fist. Rishabh yelped in pain but that only encouraged Karan to do it once again. Finally, Rishabh let go of Karan as he was sure that his son would now sit securely in his place on his own and got on all his fours to do more pushups.
The father and son duo were enjoying themselves and this little game of theirs. It was almost after hundred plus some push ups that Rishabh stopped, he lay flat on the ground so that Karan could finally get off his back. Rishabh closed his eyes and tried to catch his breath, he had no idea that his son would end up making him do such an intense work-out. He opened his eyes when he felt soft lips on his cheek and looked at his son
‘Daddaa strongest…..’
Karan yelled on top of his voice and praised his father, these words made Rishabh grin like a fool. He grabbed Karan and pulled his closer to his face, he started tickling him by rubbing his nose against his belly once again like he had done earlier in the room. In that moment, Rishabh knew that he could do anything and everything just to hear this melodious laughter of his son. Even if it meant that he would have to become a chef or a horse for his boy, Rishabh Bajaj would do whatever it took to make his son happy.
