The Way She Loved Him
That's enough, Prerna. I do not want your apologies. I do not need them either. You remember, I had said it to you once that I never explain myself to anyone? I was being really honest back then. It doesn't matter to me what people think of me but with you, I've tried letting you know things to avoid misunderstandings. I had asked you not to reach the conclusion before hearing me out but you were adamant on having your answer in either yes or no. There are things beyond 'yes' or 'no' but anyways, I don't see a point in having this conversation now though I wish, you had heard me when I genuinely wanted to explain but it's okay, I've come to know now that you don't come in that one percent of people who do not misjudge me for my actions without knowing my reasons. I have bought a new house and we, Maasi, Tanvi, Cookie and I... we are shifting right now. You can stay here, take care of Mr. Basu and...
She slowly let herself slip on the ground and pulled her knees closer to her chest while she rested her back against the wall. The conversation that happened three hours ago refused leave her mind and absolutely refused to let her breathe with ease.
How could she be so wrong in understanding a soul? Wasn't she supposedly too good at that? Wasn't she good in reading people's eyes? Wasn't she the one who could just spend a couple of days with someone and tell if the person was genuine or not?
He was right. He had tried earnestly to explain himself but she had refused to listen anything, getting herself stuck around an yes or a no.
He had promised her that he wouldn't harm Anurag and yet, she had accused him for the same. Massi had got the clue of the recording Rishabh had and she forced and took it from Mehra. She had got Rishabh out of the jail and since she had kept it under wraps, Rishabh didn't even have a hint about it and he had to come out, unwillingly.
He wasn't planning to. A part of him had desperately wished for her to come and get him out. A part of him had stupidly thought that she would realize even if it would take time but she would.
He had spent whole two days in the jail, in hope of the same. She had come to visit him though. She had held his hand though. She had said that his family had been waiting for him though. All of that... just to show to her ex-lover. So that he could believe that she had moved on and he could move on to. The worry, the care, the concern, Prerna Sharma Bajaj had for Anurag Basu had left Rishabh aching for the same. His heart longed to have someone who would love him the way she loved him.
She had been drowning in guilt ever since she saw the video and heard that it was the accident planned by Anurag himself to trap Rishabh. She couldn't feel more awful than she already was. Knowing that he had stayed in the jail despite having no fault... just because she wanted him to be there... hurt her.
She had not missed his pale face when she had walked up to him to apologize in her hesitant, shaky and ashamed voice.
You can't force people to trust you. I know that but I do not know where did I hurt my head and ended up thinking that you would trust that I would keep my promise. Ah, never mind.
His words still echoed in her ears.
Ideally, she shouldn't be affected. Who was he, anyway? A man who took the advantage of her helpless situation and got her to marry him.
A stream of tears escaped her eyes as she could no longer hold them back. Something had changed. Her feelings for him had changed.
Because if they hadn't, her heart wouldn't feel unsettled the way it did.
Sach hai ke dil to dukha hai,
Hamne magar socha hai,
Dil ko hai gam kyu,
Aankh hai nam kyu,
Hona hi tha jo hua hai!
