Online & TV TRP- interesting read

I have always been curious about TRP, how it works and its relation with viewership and content which is quite evident in most of my interaction on this forum. Thanks Cassi. I have always wondered how ONLINE TRPS are calculated.

Though yes, for PH & Channels more than online it's the offline ratings that matters. But again Online trps are more accurate. Which is why we find so many schemes by hotstar voot etc like VIP/Premium.

Also people who watch online major chunk do not watch on tv or are the target audience. Though I preferred the trps that came before BARC as they didn't have a target audience which is why the ratings went up as high as 8-9 and now barely crosses the 3mark.

Ps. Many people had many assumptions like online discussions and twitter and IG mentions too contributed to online TRPs. I hope even they have found the answer 😳

I think PH can't do away with traditional TV rating (even if they want) as the viewership is 3 times to that of online considering above numbers. In future this (online Viewership) will grow but I don't think it will out number the TV viewership anytime too soon because of our demographics.

But yeah I agree with you on the accuracy part for sure as they have better ways and control over measurement tools.

After this I tried to dig in a bit into TV rating method it seems they install some device a certain areas in some houses to find out these ratings.. they call it "People's meter" pretty interesting. I had no idea..

Assumptions will always do there rounds I guess coz 1. We donot know the inside of it. 2. We never make efforts to know about it. Even I had no idea and didn't even care earlier- but now I am liking it to be honest.

As per online viewership, it is bound to grow but don't see a huge difference from now as teenagers and minors (+10) are already a major part of this online viewership. So outnumbering is difficult.
