Finally I am updating the story 😛
First and foremost, a very big sorry ki itna lamba wait karvaya main update ke liye. But mujhe inspiration nahi mil rahi thi toh write it 🤔
In the past two-three days I finally found that inspiration, by re-watching Karan’s old shows! And I managed to write this chapter. 😳

Chapter 3
Rishabh woke up at dawn, thanks to his thirst quest. He turned his head to the other side and involuntarily smiled looking at his wife. Prerna was sleeping on the couch in the room with her fringes spread across her forehead as a curtain and her lips slightly parted.
Slowly he moved out of bed and walked to her. He sat on his knees to come to her level and silently adored her. She looked adorable, tried even. He noted that she was still in the same saree. She hadn’t left his side at all.. not even to go home and change. Rishabh suddenly felt guilty for being the reason for her worry.
‘She cares for me so much and I don’t remember a thing about her. Jab bhi inhe dekhta hun ek ajeeb sa keechav hota hai inke tarah. It feels like there is an invisible thread between us that pulls me towards her. Par phir bhi kahin kuch kami si hai… akhir kaisa tha humara rishta… what kind of connection did we have?!’
Rishabh was so lost in his chain of thoughts that he failed to notice that Prerna had started to wake up. She was startled for a second when she saw him sitting so close to her, but soon it was replaced with panic
‘Why did you leave your bed? Kuch chahiye tha toh mujhe utha dete.. Mr Bajaj you are weak, you shouldn’t …’
Rishabh hushed her by placing his hand on her mouth and took her by surprise.
‘It’s okay I just wanted some water and you were sleeping so peacefully. I didn’t want to disturb you…’
He spoke in a rather guilty tone, but Prerna failed to notice it, she just blinked her eyes in response. Rishabh pulled his hand back and bit a smile that was making its way on his lips after seeing her expressions. It took Prerna a few seconds to recover before she spoke again.
‘Erm.. aap jake bed pe rest kijiye. I’ll get some water for you…’
She quickly got up and walked to the other end of the room to fill the glass of water. She gripped the jug hard in her hand and closed her eyes to calm her heart beat. What happened a minute ago created a slight havoc in her mind.
His actions were unexpected but that’s not what surprised her, the jitters that she felt at his touch had taken her by surprise. He had promised to not touch her in any way, she remembered how he had maintained a distance between them after she got mad at him once. But he didn’t remember that promise now!
‘Prerna’
Her husband’s voice made her come out of her trance. Prerna walked to the bed and held the glass closer to his lips so that he could have the water. Rishabh wrapped his hand around hers; and she felt the same jitters. Rishabh tried to catch her eye but Prerna made sure to avoid eye contact with him, scared that her eyes might say it all.
‘Erm.. it’s still early, aap thoda aur rest kar lijiye.. Thode der main doctor aa jayenge aapko check karne ke liye..’
Prerna helped him to get comfortable in bed, as soon as Rishabh closed his eyes she moved back to the couch and sat with her head in her hands.
‘What just happened? Jab Mr Bajaj ne mere haath pakda toh suddenly mujhe yeh jitters kyun feel hue? Aisa toh nahi ki unhone pehle kabhi mera haath nahi pakda’
Flashes from their honeymoon trip to when Rishabh tried to save her from a fall came in front of Prerna’s eyes.
‘Lekin aaj aisa mehsus hua ki manu pehli baar unhone mera haath thama hai…’
Shutting her eyes tightly, Prerna let out a huge sigh and leaned back on the couch, from the corner of her eye she looked at her husband who was now fast asleep. She knew that due to the medicine dose he’d be out for a while. Glancing at the time, she decided to make a quick trip home and come back before he woke up.

The car halted in front of Basu Bari but Prerna didn’t want to get out of the car. She knew that Kukki would have woken up by now and she would ask about her father. Tears welled in Prerna’s eyes as soon as she thought about her daughter. How would she console that five year old kid? She knew that Kukki would have several questions to ask about Rishabh, what was she going to tell her?
After sitting in the car for five more minutes, Prerna finally made her way inside the house. To her surprise, almost every body was present there. At once everyone looked at her, however she chose to ignore the Basu’s and walked to Masi and Tanvi who rushed to her, they bombarded her with questions about Rishabh. She calmed them down and gave them a brief update
‘Mr Bajaj is better now, his vitals are stable. Kal kuch tests kiye the jinke reports aaj shaam tak aa jani chahiye.. lekin..’
For a moment Prerna hesitated if she should tell them about his Amnesia or not, when she finally made up her mind to tell them about it she saw Kukki walking down the stairs.
‘Lekin kya Prerna? Bolo na… Rishabh theek toh ho jayenge na?’
Tanvi asked restlessly but Prerna gestured to her to keep mumb, she didn’t want to scare her daughter. Kukki came to Prerna and hugged her knees, she looked up at her expectantly. The puffiness around her eyes told Prerna that she had been crying, she came to Kukki’s level and cupped her face. In her own language, Kukki questioned Prerna about her father.
‘Papa theek hai… unhe kuch nahi hua hai…’
Prerna tried to smile at her daughter and make her reply seem genuine, but the expressions on Kukki’s face clearly gave away that she did not completely believe Prerna. Afterall, Kukki was Rishabh’s daughter; even though she was just a kid she would always know when the other person was trying to lie to her. Kukki could sense that her mother was in some stress and she didn’t want to trouble her, hence she just wrapped her tiny arms around Prerna’s neck and hugged her tightly.
Prerna smiled at her daughter and the irony that instead of consoling her daughter, it was her daughter who was consoling her.
‘Papa jaldi theek ho jayenge Kukki… aur vo jaldi aapke paas wapas aa jayenge…’
Prerna whispered in her daughter’s hair and placed a soft kiss on top of it. After being in her daughter’s soulful embrace for another moment Prerna asked Masi and Tanvi to take care of her. She excused herself and went straight to her room.
As soon as she shut the door Prerna leaned against it and started sobbing. Her daughter’s worried etched face was haunting her already. Kukki was scared that her father had been hurt, for a second the horrible thought crossed Prerna’s mind that if Rishabh wouldn’t have survived the accident how would she console Kukki? But then she realised that the current situation was even worse.
‘Why are you doing this to my daughter Lord? Why? Kukki would have her father around her 24/7, but to him she would just be a stranger. Wasn’t my daughter already suffering due to her childhood trauma that had caused her to stay mute that now she would have to suffer because her own father forgot her? Wasn’t it enough that for five years she had been deprived of a mother’s love that now she’d have to be deprived of her father’s love too…’
After crying for several minutes, Prerna pulled herself together. She knew that now was not the time to break down or fall weak. She had to be strong, for her daughter, for her husband, for her family.
