Part 10 A
It was almost midnight Prerna woke up only to surprise Rishabh on his birthday, she lifted his arm from around her and quietly slipped out of the bed in order to not disturb his sleep, she opened the door went out of the room, a few minutes later she came back with a cake in her hands, she glanced at the watch which almost struck 12.
She placed the cake on the coffee table and went to her husband’s side, she leaned closer to his ear and almost yelled loudly
‘Rishabh..’
He woke up with a jerk sat straight on the bed and looked around distortedly, he hadn’t recovered from the shock when Prerna wrapped her arms around his neck a little too tightly as she wished him
‘Happy Birthday…’
Rishabh didn’t know whether he should be happy looking at her excitement or scold her for waking him like that
‘Thank you, but you didn’t have to scare me…’
Prerna broke the hug and frowned at him, he gently tugged her hair behind her ear as he continued
‘Pata hai main darr gaya tha, mujhe laga ki aapko kuch hogaya hai…’
‘I am sorry, main kuch zyada hi excite ho gai thi…’
Prerna pouted and looked at him innocently, her one look was enough to melt Rishabh’s heart, he felt bad to spoil her excitement about his birthday
Ever since Veena had decided to celebrate Prerna’s godh bharai on Rishabh’s birthday he was constantly feeling nervous and scared, though Prerna suggested that she would speak to Veena and postpone the ceremony but he was adamant to not do so
‘I am sorry.. I shouldn’t have…’
‘Accha chodo yeh sab…. Cake karte hain cut kar lo…’
She got him the cake and lit a candle for him, Rishabh was about to blow it off when she stopped him
‘Pehle wish maang lo…’
Rishabh smirked at her as he closed his eyes, he knew exactly what he wanted to wish for
‘My only wish is to see my family happy… unpe kabhi koi anch na aaye… aur aagye bhi toh unhe main har musibat se bacha sakun…’
He blew the candle and opened his eyes, Prerna sang in soft voice as he cut the cake to feed her a bite, she then took the whole piece from his hand and fed it to him
‘Abh yeh chotu sa piece aap finish karo, main toh bada wala piece kahungi…’
Rishabh chuckled at her as he indulged herself in relishing the cake, it was the first time that he had cut a cake at midnight to celebrate his birthday, he recalled how every year he would sneak into Kukki’s room and hug her sleeping form tightly to himself to keep his fears at bay, but could already feel that his birthday would be a memorable one this time.
Once Prerna had enjoyed the cake to her heart’s content they lay in the bed once again, Rishabh wrapped his arm around her in a not so tight yet secure hold
‘Now you get out of bed again… you need proper sleep..’
He said in a stern voice making her roll her eyes at him, soon sleep engulfed both of them

The entire Basu Bari was beautifully decorated for Prerna’s godh bharai and Risbabh’s birthday celebrations, Veena had come to their house in the morning to make sure that all the preparations were done properly and on time, Rishabh tried his best to make her understand that she didn’t need to do it all by herself
‘Lekin hum kaam kar kahan rahe hain… sirf dekh rahe hain ki sab sahi se ho jaye, aur agar koi madat lage toh bas vahi kar rahe hain..’
Veena tried to reason with him, he shook his head in despair
‘Aap aur apki beti bilkul ek jaise hain, dono hi baatien ghuma kar mujhse apni baat manva leti hain..’
Rishabh complained to Veena making her smile in response to his words, she knew that he was concerned about them and that is why he was upset with her for trying to set up the decoration herself, she was also aware of his paranoia about his birthday jinx. She caressed his face as she spoke
‘Chinta mat karo… sab theek se ho jayega.. Tum bas jao aur dekho ki Prerna kahan reh gai… thodi der main rasam shuru ho jayegi…’
Nodding his head, Rishabh walked to their room to check on his wife, he stopped in the middle of his tracks when he saw how beautiful she looked in the red saree, she was trying to fix her necklace when she met eyes with him through the reflection of the mirror, as if in a trance, Rishabh took slow steps in her direction and took the necklace from her hand, without breaking the eye contact he slowly pulled the string of her necklace, her breath hitched as he moved closer to her ear
‘Breathe…’
He whispered in her ear and placed a soft kiss behind her ear lobe, he knew that affected her but he loved to tease her, this was the least that he could do, thought both of them craved for the intimacy equally, they knew that they would have to wait a little longer to share those moments with each other. Rishabh wrapped his arm around her swollen belly and nuzzled in her hair, they stood like that for a few minutes until Veena called them out to start Prerna’s godh bharai ceremony

Rishabh had started to feel a little better as the day passed, Prerna’s baby shower had happened smoothly and he had been on edge about the same, though it was supposed to be a ladies function only Rishabh refused to leave and was being protective about Prerna, they were both being teased for the same but it didn’t bother Rishabh at all.
Soon the guests for Rishabh’s birthday party had started to arrive too, he got busy in greeting them as Prerna had been cribbing about wearing another outfit for his birthday party, he couldn’t understand why she wanted to change but he knew that there was no point in arguing, he would only end up spoiling her mood. He was about to excuse himself while talking to one of his associates to go and check on his wife when his daughter ran up to him and hugged him by wrapping her tiny arms around his legs, he lifted her in his arms and kissed her cheek as she wished him in sign language
‘Aap toh bohut pretty lag rahe ho.. Mamma ne bilkul princess ke tarah apko dress kiya hai…’
He spoke in a baby like voice to his daughter, she blushed at his compliment
‘Waise Mamma hai kahan ?’
He enquired from his daughter and she turned her head in the direction from which Prerna was walking towards them, Kukki got out of his arms and ran to her Nani Maa, Rishabh couldn’t stop himself from checking her out from head to toe
Prerna wore a pretty Sky blue colour evening gown and her hair was tied in a bun, she looked like a queen herself, she blushed due to her husband’s constant gaze, her mother had been teasing her all day about how much Rishabh loved her and cared for her, she was just a step away from her husband and daughter when she almost tripped because of her own gown but Rishabh had caught her in time
‘Sambhal ke… gir jati toh? Itni lambi gown pehne ki kya zaroorat thi?’
Rishabh spoke in a concerned voice, he wanted to scold her but since they were at a party he tried to speak in a normal tone. Prerna pouted at him and instantly his anger vanished, he wrapped his arm around her as they greeted the rest of the guests
A few minutes later Prerna excused herself as she went to check on her daughter, she was looking for Kukki around the hall but couldn’t find her, she climbed a few stairs to get a clear view of the room which was half full of guests and easily find her daughter, when she finally spotted her in a corner with her mother Kukki waved at her and gestured her something, Prerna tried to understand what she wanted to say but before she could decode it she felt someone push her down the stairs
