02 | Aap Apne Liye Kuch Mangti Hi Kahan Hai?
"Don't you get tired of giving in to my demands?" She grinned as she stepped forward to see him entering their room, and circled her hands around his neck.
"Aap apne liye kuch mangti hi kaha hai?"
She pulled herself a little back only to lift her eyes at him. "What?"
He smiled as he sat on the bed, loosening his tie. "Yaad kijiye last aapne kab apne liye kuch manga tha? We went on a small vacation six months ago. You had planned it so that Cookie's health improves with the change of the atmosphere. Four months ago, you had asked to keep a party. You had done it for the brilliant job Mehra did in cracking that huge deal. You had asked me to take a week off and spent your whole time completing that stupid list of my desires that I had made when I was a kid. Inme se ya iske alawa zara bataiye, aapne apne liye kya manga hai?"
"That list wasn't stupid, Mr. Bajaj. It was fun." She cried softly, hearing him tag it stupid once again. He had done it for several times already.
"Yeah right, chanting a meaningless line and waiting for it to send angels to us is such an intelligent thing to do, no?" The man was always ready with his counterattacks.
She giggled. "Likha kisne tha?"
"Tab mai char saal ka baccha tha, Mrs. Bajaj. Immature tha. Pagal tha." He pulled the tie within a second and it then lied in a corner of his room. His downcast eyes held fury and pain in them which had his wife walking up to him and settle beside him.
As her hand reached out for his and she entwined her fingers with his, she slipped her head on his shoulder. "Nahi, Mr. Bajaj. Aap ab pagal ban rahe hai. We've to let go of past, Mr. Bajaj. The tighter and longer you hold on to it, the more painful it gets."
"As long as I have you beside me, I am sure - I am sure, the pain would only reduce with the time and your companionship and that depends upon for how long I would have you."
"Always and forever."
Her instant answer made him smile like it always did.
Slipping a finger underneath her chin, he lifted her face to look at him. "You are yet to tell me, what's behind this sudden plan? I am sure, you have a reason and I don't believe that you just wanna roam around. Tell me." He was sure, that his wife had to have some reason to plan the sudden trip for which she had asked him if he could take a couple of days off.
"Surprise surprise which you know that I can't keep. Wait." She rose on her feet, walked up to her cupboard and took out a piece of paper and as she came back to him and handed it to him, not just his eyes widened out of shock but also his mind that seemed to have frozen momentarily.
"I was deep cleaning the room today and see what I've got - the next list of continuation of your earlier wishlist and according to this - you wanted to stay in a treehouse, no? I have searched for a place where we would be able to live in one. It's quite similar to hotel fashion. Like a hotel offers us room, here we will have a whole treehouse for ourselves. Sounds awesome, no?"
His unblinking stare at his wife who looked excited and enthusiastic as he might have been when he was four brought a frown on his wife's forehead.
"It doesn't sound awesome to me. It sounds ridiculous to me and trust me, now it is getting annoying that you are getting this much into a stupid wish list that I had made when I was four which I don't even remember what all that I had written." He threw the paper somewhere on the bed, as he stood up and gripped her arm, pulling her closer. He raised his palm against her cheek, softening his tone, "Please, Prerna - mat kijiye. Iski koi zaroorat nahi hai. Ye sab... mai... bachpan... That time was different. Back then, when I was writing this - I didn't know what my life had in store for me. I didn't know that my life was going to shatter in a way it would never be whole again. I didn't know that the father who I called mine never cared about me. I didn't know that the life I was dreaming was going to stay a dream for lifetime -"
"Shh," she took a step closer to him, encircling her arms around his neck, pulling him in a soft hug, "Bura waqt bhulna hota hai, Mr. Bajaj aur acchi yaade sambhalni hoti hai." She held him for several more seconds till she felt his tensed muscles relaxing under her touch.
"And anyways, aap jante hai - ye ghar hai, aapka office nahi. Yaha boss mai hu. There is no point in beginning an argument that we both know who is going to win by the end so let's cut that. Ab chaliye, packing karne me meri help kariye. This is going to be so much fun... especially for Cookie. I am sure, she is going to enjoy a lot."
He smiled though the thin layer of tears in his eyes as he watched her rushing to pack their stuff. His wife was fulfilling the wish list he had made as a kid. As his life messed up in the worst way possible, he did not even remember about it until she got it in his stuff. His childhood was snatched from him. His dreams were torn apart. He had lost many important years of his life that he could never get back but there was his wife, adamant on making up for everything he had missed on, in his life. How did he even get so lucky to have someone like her?
"Why are you staring at me like that? Aaj to maine makeup bhi nahi kiya hai."
He chucked as he heard her. "Aap nahi hoti to mera kya hota?"
His favorite question. She laughed. She smiled. She blushed. She did all of it at the same time as she advanced towards him and stretched out her hand for him to hold and once his hand was in hers, she tiptoed to drop a quick kiss on his cheek. "Mai hu aur hamesha rahungi."
Mere sanam, teri kasam, chhodenge ab na ye hath!
Ye zindagi, gujregi ab, hamdam tumhare hi sath!
Apna ye wada raha, tumse na honge juda!
