I think it is saner for us to accept that these are deeply flawed lead characters who cannot think straight and whose love for each other too is highly complicated despite being pure.

I'll say it again , it doesn't matter what small or big defence Anurag gives for Protecting Prerna , his exasperation, his rage was enough to show what she means to him and how much he loves her .
