Is Prerna lovable?

In one of the other posts doing the rounds today someone asked why the hell has Anurag fallen for Prerna. That unlike Anurag who one can understand is lovable there is nothing lovable about Prerna. This got me thinking and I decided to write this post.

Let's put to one side there looks - both are good looking and while Prerna has not commented on Anurag's looks, let's assume both are physically attracted to the other.

Let's also put to one side Anurag's family wealth. It is after all his family's and nothing he has earned or created for himself unlike his father.

Let's just analyse them for who they are and based on the nuggets dropped on the script, rather than our imagination of who we would like them to be.

- Anurag is very punctual. Prerna is not.

- Anurag has always stayed in what be calls his limits. He has not made many friends but even with his friends he has always minded his business and cared a lot about what other people thought of him. Thereby getting the reputation among others especially the older generation of being a good boy. Prerna always makes lots of friends and is willing to go out of way even putting herself at risk to help her friends. This has caused her family to lament on her impulsiveness.

- Anurag does help out in the family business occasionally and gets chances given to him by his father. Prerna also helps her family. Staying awake and working for her mom, often without anyone even knowing and get shouted at. She is studying subjects she doesn't like rather than following any passion so that her father can take it easy in life.

- Prerna is protective of her family and friends and cannot see them being insulted or shouted at. And while she is very respectful of elders and Nivi she has the guts to stand up for them when she needs to, whether that is about what saree she wears or protecting her friends against their own mom. Anurag is also very loving to his family and friends, though sometimes he doesn't seem to stand up for his friends when they are so obviously be insulted by his mom.

- While Prerna loves her family she also appreciates be fierce love that others feel for their parents/mom. Anurag has a tendency to think that his love for his family trumps all.

- Prerna has made a really stupid decision to marry Naveen and is not getting concerned by the various hints life I throwing at her. Anurag
Thanks aI'm attempt to protect his friend is constantly making stupid choices until he finally puts not just his but also his friends life in danger.

I don't know guys it seems these are two very sweet young adults who have some amazing things about them but also some flaws. Who doesn't? Is one a better person or more loveable than the other. I do not think their characters are being portrayed as such.

This is obviously my personal view. You are welcome to disagree.

Its hilaripus how except saying anurag is punctual and prerna is not as some positive point in.anurag's favor 🤣 in evety other point of urs you so subtly highlight only positive about prerna and negative abt anurag.. even your so called compliments to anurag are backhanded.

Well thats no surprise.. u have yourself created plenty of threads bashing anurag

. Thats your prerogative whom you like. Just like you like prerna more thsn anursg.. i feel others have the right to their opinion.

If you choose to not understand why prerna's actions are being met with such extreme reaction then what can one say??

Ha ha maybe. Does the Indian male whether it is an actor, a character or a real man need any more supporters? Isn't everything already in his favour? And we women stand in queue to bash each other. Why not one contrary voice?

I tend to disagree with the title itself. Everyone is lovable and why and when we start liking or loving someone doesnt have any reason..Its just the comfort level with them...to share and care with no judgements...These two happen to be there forever in that zone without realizing it...and slowly they are now..

Again if u don't see anything wrong with prerna's actions it's your choice.. most posters who are criticising prerna if u have read always wanted prerna to stand up for herself and not anurag fighting her battle.. that is pro female if u want to make it a gender issue..

My point is that there are more than enough posts on this forum about the stupidity of Prerna, the horribleness of Erica's voice, speech patterns, eyes, lenses, make-up, her nose, lack of acting ability, weight. Why don't I provide for slightly contrary view. I didn't use the term gender bias or feminism. You are of course entitled to you view about the character and the actress. They are perfectly valid for you. I am entitled to my view. We can both respectfully remain in our spaces.

I agree. The title was just a reaction to people asking if there was in reality anything to love in prerna at all in another post. And I totally get the frustration. I am an independent rational educated 23 year old who just qualified as a solicitor - am I able to relate to the 23 year olds created in Indian TV? I have written posts about how the writers need to think about what they are doing to the character of prerna. I often found them in other episodes making her do something stupid just to make Anurag look good.
But if we are going to say that it is difficult to imagine Anurag loving prerna... then you are for sure going to get a post like this from me highlighting the differences!

And while I totally agree with you that love just happens naturally in real life...this is not real life is it! It's just a serial and we get it for 30 mins 5 days a week. Why can we we do but discuss in the remaining 23 and half hours?

In my view love doesn't need reason and But Anurag start falling or Adoring her for the reasons u already mentioned and that is her love for her family. He first time adored when he got to know that she didn't slept in night to help her mom in packing, She is doing a subject she doesn't like to her father. And her faith in true love made Anurag more closer to her. She loves her family that makes her very lovable.

Now coming to point why everyone bashing Prerna 1 stupid action and Not Anu many stupid action because Anu's is doing all stupidities what he knows is right to protect his friend as of now from bad person. His all fail attempts are done for right thing he is fighting for what everyone knows is correct. his non dying attitude whereas Prerna has scummed to faith and not trying to come out of trap even after knowing that what she is doing is wrong. That is only reason people are not justifying her and r angry with her. IF tomorrow he will be seen doing similar stupidity and Prerna fighting for right thing same people will bash Anu and support Prerna.

She is all set to sell herself to protect the house without thinking how self-respected her parents are. His father didn't want to take help of molay to promote his mother's business and how will he feel if he gets to know that her daughter sold herself to protect a house. House can be very important to them but not important than their daughter. If tomorrow if 1 person tell them that they have sold their daughter to protect a house they both will die not only because she is their loving daughter but also till today daughters are known as family's respect. So she is practically selling their self respect to save house whereas they will prefer to sell their house and struggle rather than selling their self respect. In order to give them small happiness she is going to give them worst pain of life. This is the reason why people find it worse stupid action as compared to Anu's all stupid actions.

I get people's frustration with her decision. I myself can not relate to it. However I do think people are imposing views on Prerna the fictional character based on what they see on screen rather than what the character is aware of. She is not seeing all the scheming between Madhuri and Naveen. Therefore She does not see it as selling herself. Remember the marriage proposal has come from her Kaki Ma. Why is all the world would she think the proposal is a bad one? She may not like the guy and she may not like the way Kaki Ma in imposing her will but this is what happens so much in India. So many of my cousins in my extended family get married to guys they don't find physically attractive or even like in the arranged marriage set up just because the proposal has come form the right family or he is a doctor or works in the US. Very often when I ask my mom why an particular arranged wedding is taking place she cannot give me a logical answer as to the things that actually make the couple compatible. One of my moms friends just wanted to escape her life got married to a guy even her parents were not sure about and ended up in the US, unhappy and emotionally abused by her husband. A lot of trust would be placed in India on the fact that the proposal has come from Mohini.

Again let me repeat I don't like the decision of Prerna and do not think they should be showing bullshit like this on TV in 2018. I consider it a stupid writing by the writers who did not appreciate how much their audience has moved on. Having said that the writers have also shown other elements to Prerna character, which giving us a inkling into why someone like Anurag would relate to her and like her. I have pointed some of these out in my post. And this is what is being ignored in the bashing emails of both Prerna and Erica.

Most of the characters they have created have positives and negatives - like Mohini. Some of the scenes where she shows her love to Anurag like when she protects his face from the sun are very well done. But she is also the woman who blackmailed Prerna and also treats her daughters as second class citizens. And the way she talks to Prerna and the Sharma family!! And the same with Anurag and Moloy. They are shown to have some good stuff and some bad stuff.

I've said in my post that both Anurag and Prerna are not perfect - but they are falling in love with each other inspite of the imperfections.

I am not as convinced as you are people will turn on Anurag if he is shown to be wrong. Forget about his stupidity - let's call that enthusiasm for the prerna cause. He's been shown to ignore his mom insulting Prerna. And the same people who attack Prerna and Erica using pretty harsh language...when it comes to Anurag say oh but he's doing it in such an adorable fashion! If they actually have the guts to show Anurag dumping Prerna for Komolika (which I hope they don't) this crowd will say oh but he looked so cute when he did it!

Anyway it's just a TV serial and while it's enjoyable to writer on this forum and to have these debates - let's don't expect too much or invest too much because these are just fictional characters and being written to get TRP.
