The thornbirds is a novel by the Australian author Colleen McCullough. Plus a tv show in america was made a couple decades ago on it. Kasauti itself isn't based on the thorn birds story, but anu-pre love story is inspired by the thorn birds tale, which is why the tale was referenced via prerna this season. Once you understand the tale, prerna and anurag's star-crossed love story is very symbolic of the thorn birds tale. If you read the story fully, you do see how kasauti and anu-pre love story is very similar to the thorn birds story and the couple ralph-meggie, especially the original kasauti is very similar to the thorn birds.

Wow. This sounds about right! Noice interpretation there gurlll ! (Also it fills me with so much sadness even though all this separation angst judaii kasauti is inevitable)

Also can you tell me briefly (if only it is okay with you) about that thornbird story and how it relates to Anurag being pricked by the thorn in the promo. lol I did watch that episode but since I was doing a KZK marathon to catch up, I didn't pay much attention there!

Edit: I only know thornbird suffers in love (suffers for love/suffers for someone it loves???!!) can't remember anything apart from it

Okay I read the comments and now I understand fully but now I feel bittersweet about this :((

Firstly , thank you so much !
I can't agree more with the you . Kasautii isn't all about separation . It's about the trials of life . We can face all the struggles of life , together .
Can't Ekta do this ?
I mean content is the new king .
Every person faces problems , but when you have someone next to you . It just makes it easier .
Even railway tracks , they are at the end of the day connected .
If we take it that they never unite, well guess what , they never separate .
Because when they do , catastrophe strikes .

He will take time to fall in love for the first n last time.
He will be the one to sacrifice for his love.

I think it's really beautiful .
What I think I am not going to like is , only one of them sacrificing and getting hurt .
I was upset with the Anurag of last season (no offence ) and now with Prerna .
They can make it difficult for the couple to get together . Some couples face these difficulties in real life as well , however it's not about 20+ years of separation .
In 2018, I can't think of anything so huge apart from cheating of course that can validate them not getting together .
Family opposition cannot be this strong .

You stole my words !
The only difference which I really wanted between the previous season ( no offence) and this season , is that they fight for their love .
It's nice to see the guy who doesn't believe in love , fall in love , so deeply and intensely .
However , if it's a reboot , a better version , then I want to see this beautiful couple face the real life struggles together .
Every person faces troubles , but all that makes it better is a companion in this journey . This just makes it easy .
It's not all about judai .
And are we seriously thinking that a vamp plotting against a couple is a trial of life ?
Sure , once , it's a trial of their love .
Again and again ?
I think the makers need to think again .

Yes, they are giving so many hints about anu's character in this season being the one who will fight for and pine for prerna's love, whereas in the original anurag ditched, hurt, mistrusted and broke prerna and wasn't loyal and respectful to her which was what caused them to separate forever on two instances, whereas in this season they are showing anurag to understand prerna even when she pushes him away from her, care for her even when she doesn't want it, and unconditionally fight for her happiness and safety even when she doesn't ask for it.

I think ekta has switched anu and prerna from the original season, and here made the girl the spineless and weaker character, and made the male stronger and a fighter, whereas in the original we all know that prerna was uber strong, independent and a fighter with anu being the spineless one who gives up on and disappoints prerna.

This also saddens me because it still means that one lead will be butchered for the sake of elevating the other in order to explain and justify their separations. I will be interested though to see when what happens with anurag's character this season after realising he is the thornbird of this season instead of prerna.

I guess this expains why this season prerna's character is least liked out of the leads and anu is loved more by audience, whereas in the original the audience appreciated and liked prerna, and hated on anurag for his spinelessness, despite the fact that even prerna wasn't perfect and did things that the audience didn't like either. Because this time anurag will be the loved lead instead of prerna of last season, and prerna this season will be disliked for her actions and behavior just like anurag of last season.

You really got into the crux of what I was saying .
I wholeheartedly agree with you !
It's really sad , to see that characterisation of one character goes down for the sake of the other .
This Anurag is adored however Prerna is questioned for her choices already .
I guess to make the audience happy , the makers can get the lead couple together ( after of course some difficulty ) but let them stay together and face these difficulties together .
They have such a beautiful essence , that it's really difficult to imagine them with anyone else .

And, dying, it rises above its own agony to out-carol the lark and the nightingale. One superlative song, existence the price. But the whole world stills to listen, and God in His heaven smiles. I think in both the thornbirds story and the story of kasauti, pain and hardshipwill be the expense to be paid for trying to get what you most desire, showing that gaining what you desire can't always be as easy as you wish, and if your desires are true and strong, then that pain won't weaken you, but will serve as a motivating factor to fight for what you desire.

I , again , completely agree with you .
Yes , we all fave difficulties in life .
"Mehnat ka Phal meetha hota hain
We need to go through the hardest trials for the sweetest fruit .
Now , realistically speaking , everyone faces these troubles . From their relationships to their jobs.
Since , it's love story . Let the struggle be about their relationship . Got it !
But for how long ?
It's not always about judai .
Once , I get it .
Twice , I get it .
Throughout your life ?
Being connected at death ?
That's a good load of bullsh!t .
Like , even if it happens sometimes , I'm sorry I'm all about at the end of the day you got what you wanted .
But does the journey need to be so difficult ?

I have a strong feeling that the Balaji team is strongly influenced by Shakespeare and everything that is synonymous with pain and separation .

Agreed. It's Anurag who's gonna hold onto his love and get hurt.💔

Thank you so much ❤️
It's really sad that only one holds on to their love .
Why not both ?
Can't they fight for it ?
Especially Prerna who is such a die hard love fan .
Hope the makers surprise us this season by letting the leads stay together .

The word "star crossed lovers always gets to me .
They might be star crossed lovers but at the end of the day shouldn't their love overpower this malign star ( since we have no idea what it's going to be this season )
