I see that there's a lot of animosity here between fans of the Anu/Prerna jodi and Bajaj/Prerna jodi. I can totally understand differences of opinion, but just as an objective point of view here, sometimes i think it can get a bit too much. Especially considering i think, for the most part, the show has always done a good job of giving both jodi's their rightful due. I think even in these last two episodes, this was the case.
In my opinion, a person can, in one lifetime, love more than once. I think both Anu and Prerna proved this. Anu did in my opinion love Aparna to some degree, at one point in his life. And Prerna definitely grew to love Bajaj very deeply.
I think in the context of this show it is important to remember that there are different kinds of loves, and there can be two great loves, in one show. I dont knowif anyone here has ever seen this American show called 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer.' In it, the main character had two relationships that really defined her. In very different ways though. With one man, there was an almost ethereal, otherwordly connection, that even through times of distance or animosity, still somehow remained. I see Anu/Prerna very much like this. Call it a soulmate connection, if you will. The other man was someone who started out villainous, but the heroines character gradually began to change him and they both grew to find comfort in each other like they had never experience. With time love and understaning grew, and most of all, a sense of co-dependance grew. I see Bajaj/Prerna very much like this. Two people who didn't necessarily find each other in the best of circumstances, butthey grew to love and understand each other deeply, all the same.
In my opinion, there is no denying that Bajaj and Prerna's love, and their long sustaining marriage was one of the key elements of this show. They had a lot of ups and downs, but they soldiered through, first through a sense of obligation, and then, to a level of real love and trust. These two proved that a marriage could be successgul, and how. I think for Prerna, one of the key hooks that kept her so attached and grounded to Bajaj, was the marriage and family factor. There was so much at stake, so much that she was responsible for. At the same time it helped that she actually grew to love and trust Bajaj as well. As companions, these two worked marvellously.
Anu/Prerna, as we all know are ofcourse the love story that started it all. It can't be denied here either of how strong and deep their love was. All through the times of separation, the times of Komolika, they still carried on loving each other, and madly so. Theirs was always a more sacrificing nature of love as well. It was first love, but also true love. Prem's death was the final coffin in anything resembling a marriage for them though, and ofcourse by that time Bajaj had also entered the scene. I want to add and remind here that while Bajaj went on to completely redeem himself, there was a point in the show where he was on extremely shaky moral ground and that it was him who began creating some of the biggest hurdles in the Anu/Prerna relationship. The forcing Prerna to mary him, the false, staged pictures, and so on. I'm not condemning Bajaj here. I love him as a character, but just pointing out the history of the show.
Which iultimately was ok and was needed this to happen. Because Ekta was to create a love triangle that was actually compelling. There's no point having a triangle if even one point is unbelievable or weak, but here, each character and their love story carried weight.
And create she did. I had a lot of problemswith this show but i never had a problem with the way the Anu/Prerna or Bajaj/Prerna relationships were shown. Bajaj/Prerna was the quintissential successful marriage, the deep bond of understanding, the connection of responsibility, and the proof of love and passion growing with time and care.
Anu/Prerna were always the starcrossed lovers who could never quite get their act together. Destiny and fate always kept pulling them apart yet the show kept reminding us at reguklar intervals that no matter what, these two would still always be connected to each other. When Apo*na killed Anu, Prerna's grief was palpable and real. When she thought Anu killed her beloved Bajaj, she took revenge by killing him. Yet still, even after doing so, in the immediate aftermath, all she could do was imagine herself and Anu uniting and embracing. In the 20 years, she was devoted to Bajaj's memory and dedicated the Gurukul to him. Yet the part of her that sometimes wound down to recollect her memories was only shown to be thinking of her days with Anu.
Same with Anu, who was a good example of the self sacrificing nature of love.
Finally, in these last episodes even, the writers gave us all the glory of the love that was Bajaj/Prerna. Their happy family surrounding them, their desire to be comfortable in each others presence for the rest of their lives. Their love in each others eyes.
But at the same time it was also solidified that when the crunch time came, the deep inexplicable connection of Anu/Prerna would also come through. Sometimes two people aren't fated for each other in life. And they can only find peace with each other in the hereafter. I think back to 'Wuthering Heights' where this was the case. Ultimately, the show rammed into our heads that it was indeed Anu/Prerna who would join the ranks of Heer/Ranjha etc. Their souls uniting was in my opinion a beautiful way to culminate that at the end of the day, atleast they finally found each other. Their was contentment and eagerness in their souls interacting. Prerna not standing to be 10 secs apart from Anu, Anu reassuring her he was right there. It was anappropriate way to bring their story to a close which was often tragic.
This doesnt take away from Prerna's love for Bajaj though. Because that remained the true survivor in actual life. And it was as real and honest as any other. But similarly, so was Anu/Prerna.
These are just my opinions, i hope i didnt offend anybody. I truly did love both these jodi's, for very differnt reasons and i think that no one was better than the other. They each had their own unique place. Just that ending it with a happiness angle for Anu/Prerna in my opinion provided the show with a nice symmetry to cap the show off where it began from.
