Ronit Roy's spiritual awakening
By: Tushar Joshi
June 2, 2006

Divine quest: Ronit Roy

Ronit Roy's professional journey started years back with a film, titled Jaan Tere Naam in the early 90s.

From the big screen to playing Mr Bajaj of Kasautii Zindagii Kay on the small screen, the actor has had many ups and downs.

However, one thing that has remained rock-solid is Ronit's unending desire to learn more about the spiritual world.

Recently, the actor was at the bank of the Ganges in Haridwar for the shoot of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. "There were some two to three thousand people, and we were shooting along with them," reveals Ronit.

Puja ka power

While shooting during the Ganga Puja that happens every evening, Ronit felt immensely overwhelmed by the mantras and the hymns being chanted aloud.

"Everyone lights these beautiful diyas and sets them afloat in the river. I cannot describe in words what I went through, during that moment. It felt like being in the middle of positive energies. I have never been so overwhelmed in life before."

Admitting he's an extremely religious person Ronit says, "I believe in every way of praising the lord. There isn't a specific deity or a religion that's close to my heart. I am curious to know about different cultures and their ways of embracing spirituality."

These days, Ronit is reading books on Eastern mysticism. "All of us have lots of questions that trouble our mind and we constantly try and seek answers for them. After being on the path of divinity, you reach a certain stage where the answers come to you even before your mind has raised the question."

Seeking a guru

The actor claims he is also planning to study Vedic scriptures, "I think when I reach my mid forties, I would like to take up the Vedas. However, there would have to be a Guru who'll guide me in the journey, explain and elaborate the meanings for me."

Facts about the Ganga Puja

By sundown each day in Hardiwar the entire place takes on a different glow. The big puja takes place at Hari ki Pauri. The Ganga aarti takes place on the banks of the river. Devotees line the banks, holding a basket of flowers containing an oil lamp.

The aarti begins with singing of the hymn, Jai Jagadish Hare and devotees send baskets of flowers and diya down the river. The aarti is supposed to have healing powers and is attended by thousands of locals as well as tourists from various part of the country.

LOL yeah i am not putting rish down. I like him too, though I like mihir better.

but it's a fact that rishabh bajaj's character just lost 90 % of the charm since that 'kzk Versus Sarkar' matter and his coma episodes. then prem's entry and suddenly, the show was again all abt anurag-prerna-prem-sneha only. not getting SPA nomination though he was previous year's winner in the Fav.Pita category. and now a so-called big business tycoon giving up business and running away because his wife went to jail.
Rishabh Bajaj..itna kamzor..pahle to nahi tha..?

Though it is necessary to show the leading ladies as smart and their husbands as dumb, as the viewers are majority housewives, Ekta still showed mihir having enuf brains to mastermind a plan to trap meera, mihir going to office and looking after his share of business responsibilities...independent of his sons' businesses..mihir commanding enuf control in the house to decide who lives there and who goes out..

Maybe i'll start liking rishabh again if he dumps prerna once he comes back 😉 but otherwise, the guy is pretty ordinary and lame right now. that is why i am happy ronit has taken that break from rishabh. it must hv been terrible for him too, to play the role in the last few months.

No offense to rish-fans. this is just my opinion as a neutral viewer and a ronit-mihir fan.

Firmly disagree yaar!
Mihu acted like a pighead too when he trusted Meera and all of a sudden just wanted Tulsi out of the house- Rishabh has never taken such impulsice and reckless decisions EVER!

I dont think Rish is ordinary or lame in any way, he is extra-ordinary- he stands up to his mistakes, protects the women and kids, crisp, straightforward to the point of being rude, a TOTAL smooth operator..he's just the BEST that you can get..

I agree the Sarkkar fiasco led to his character taking a real beating but it has been redeemed as well, it's just another transition in his character - this soft side that has been reveald and you cant really comment on his leaving away thingy unless we really come to know WHY he left..

Again no offence! LOL!

Small screen's big man!

Indian television industry's blue-eyed 'man', Ronit Roy in an
interview with us speaks about his acting skills and growing up years
in Ahmedabad.

Many may not be aware, but actor Ronit Roy spent his growing years in
Ahmedabad. And he has fond memories of the city. "My growing years
there were incredible.

I think Ahmedabad is a great city and a very resilient one, for
despite all the knocks it gets, it manages to survive and emerge from
them - even tougher than before. In that sense, it is a lot like Mumbai."

Roy who moved base to Mumbai to act in Hindi films failed to make a
mark though he made a successful debut.

"That's the reason I got into acting on television, as I was out of
work. So when I received a call to act in tele serials, I immediately
took up the offer," he candidly admits.

And though he has become a household name now thanks to his roles on
the small screen, Roy has no qualms about admitting his seniority in
terms of his age.

"It is easier for me to play older roles since most actors in the TV
industry are in their twenties while I am forty. Also I am a real life
father, so playing a dad or granddad on screen, comes naturally to
me," he says with a smile.

Ask him about working under a creative female head and he shrugs, "I
don't really differentiate professional interactions in terms of gender."

Ask him about a stagnant Indian television industry, and Roy begs to
differ. "I think Indian television is on an all time high. In fact, it
is going to grow into a much bigger industry soon," he says.

But does television offer him a scope to explore his acting potential
to the fullest? "Though I haven't really explored genres like comedy
to the fullest, acting in soaps gives me a wide range of
possibilities" he says.

And the cynic in him is quick to add, "There is nothing like a dream
role. You have to manage to turn a role around into a dream role. And
anyway I don't dream of roles, for I live in reality."
