Yeah, he didn't lie except for one thing, that Sharad was with him the whole night...but the most important issue relating to the case...Sharad's whereabouts...he has committed perjury...What Mukti did in Panchmeshwar has no revelance in court, and Prem didn't lie about that...but Prem lying about Sharad's wherabouts the night of the rape was what he lied about...
You're right..the Panchmeshwar thing had no relevance, but Mahesh asked him why she would think that Prem was the rapist, and that's what Prem came up with. I think that was a stock dialogue that Mahesh had ordered Prem to say, because surely Mahesh knew about the whole thing beforehand and they had planned this...because Prem's reactions and emotions from the moment he stood up were not cocky, he was not self-assured and defiant, he was not veangeful...in fact, he looked utterly miserable. He was having difficulty stringing the sentences and saying what was required of him. He even came up with a moot point "Mukti thought I raped her but its not true. I didn't do it". Well of course he didn't, that's the whole point of the case, that someone else did it.
I just thought that if he had wanted, Manoj could have acted that scene like he does with other UD scenes, that cocky smile, that swagger and the "I don't give a damn about anyone, especially not you" attitude. But instead, he decided to act it as if he was...miserable. When he got upi on the stand and looked at Mukti, there was no anger or revenge in his yes...
Seems to be a major foreshadowing to me.
