Im still not understanding JWs attitude so far.. he says he wants to marry her, and asked her himself.. and even she is seeming to be just as confused. its sad to see that bani is not understanding his reasons and not getting the answers to her questions, but there had to been something to make her say yes.. even just the attraction she said she had to jw...

wonder what problem jigs had.. i hope this whole thing isnt to go against banis parents/kiran especially.. i know their reaction wont be so great.

cant wait for the next update! sorry for the delay.. fam was in town and was out with them and no time to comment!! :)

Flashback 6

Confrontation

Bani reached her home on Thursday night. Nishikant had said he would come and receive her at the railway station, but she refused. She had booked her return tickets for Saturday night. As she reached home late night, she just had a bath and dinner and went to sleep.

Next day, she tried to be normal. She went at Pushkar's place to see Veer. She spent some time with Veer and his grandparents. Pushkar's parents enjoyed the time with her. She helped Pushkar's mother in heating up the lunch, laying the table, etc. Veer did not come much to her as she was relatively new to him. She returned her home towards the evening.

Nishikant came soon that day so that he could spend sometime with Bani. After freshing up, he came and joined Bani, who was reading newspaper.

"Toh beta, kaise ho? College kaise chal raha hai?" Nishikant started the conversation.

"Ji, teek hai, papa." Bani said. After sometime, she said slowly, "Papa, mujhe aapse kuch baat karni hai."

Nishikant was surprised. Bani hardly asked for anything from him. He said, "Bolo, beta…"

Bani lowered her head. She said, "Actually…" she raised her head. "Papa, maine… maine ek faisla kiya hai…"

"Kaisi faisla beta?" Nishikant asked. By then Kiran had come out from the kitchen.

"Maine… maine…" she took a deep breath. "Maine kisise shaadi karna ka faisla kiya hai." She said at last successfully.

Nishikant was more surprised than shocked. Kiran was shocked.

"Achanak?" Nishikant asked.

"Haan, papa. Usne poocha toh maine haan kar di…" Bani said.

"Kaun hai woh?" he asked.

"Aap jaante hai use… Jai…" Bani said.

"Jai…?" Nishikant asked rubbing his memory. "Kaun Jai?" he asked.

"Tum wahi Jai ki baat nahin kar rahe ho?" Kiran asked. "Woh Aligarhwale?"

"Haan, wohi Jai…"

Kiran went furious. She had thought when Bani came to home this time in the middle of the semester, that at last Bani had shed all the differences and was coming close to them. But, the truth was she wasn't. "Kahaan mila tumhein?"

"Woh tumse bahut bada hai na, beta?" Nishikant asked.

"Haan, papa. Lekin bahut achcha hai. Mera achchi tarah khayal rakhega… Mumbai mein mili sabse…" Bani replied.

"Kab mile?" Kiran asked.

"Kuch do mahine, dayi mahine pehle…" Bani said.

"Usne poocha kya tumse, shaadi ke liye. Ya uski maa ne?" Kiran asked with doubt.

"Usne hi poocha. Krishna aunty ab nahin rahi… Uncle bhi…" Bani said.

"Tumne kya jawaab diya?" Kiran asked narrowing her brows.

"Maine… maine haan keh di…" Bani said.

"Humse pooche bina?" Kiran raised her voice.

Bani did not say anything.

"Kiran, ek minute, tum chup raho…" Nishikant said. "Tum batao Bani. Tumhein woh pasand hai?"

Bani looked at her father. "Haan papa. Woh bahut achcha hai. Sab mujhse bahut pyaar karte hai…"

"Hum bhi tumse pyaar karte hai, beta." Nishikant said.

Bani did not say anything. Then said, "Main yeh shaadi karna chahti hoon, papa. Please…"

Kiran butted in. "Tumne usmein kya dekha ki usse shaadi karna chahti ho?"

"Woh achcha hai maa…" Bani said.

"Kaun achcha hai, aur kaun nahin, tumhein batane ki zaroorat nahin hai." Kiran snapped. "Mujhe toh pehle se hi pata tha. Yeh Krishna kuch aisi hi karegi. Pehle se hi tumhein fasakar rakhi hai. Aur uske marne ke baad, uska beta tumhein fasana chahta hai…"

"Aisi baat nahin hai, maa…" Bani said.

"Toh kaisi baat hai, tumhi batao?" Kiran said.

"Kiran, tum baat ko kahaan se kahaan le jaati ho…" Nishikant said.

"Main galat nahin bol rahi hoon. Tum batao Bani. Baat kya hai? Achanak Mumbai mein kaise aa tapke?" Kiran asked.

"Woh log… woh log Mumbai mein hi rehte hai…" Bani said.

"Achcha? Aligarh kyun chod diya?" Kiran asked sarcastically.

Bani did not answer. Her hope was breaking.

"Ek baat batao? Itne saalon tak usne shaadi kyun nahin ki? Poocha usse?" Kiran asked.

Tears started to shine in Bani's eyes.

"Yeh sab jaanne se pehle haan kaise keh di tumne? Woh bhi, humse pooche bina? Ek baat kaan kholkar sun lo. Yeh log tumhein fasana chahte hai. Pehle ek baar maine bardaasht kar li. Aur nahin. Samjhi?" Kiran said and left them alone.

Nishikant placed his hand on his shoulder. "Dekho beta. Tumhari maa ne jo bhi kaha ho, usmein ek-do sawaal ka jawaab humein jaanna zaroori hai. Use jaane bina, main raazi nahin ho sakta. Aur tumhari maa ki marzi ke bina mujhe yeh shaadi manzoor nahin hai." He said and left the room.

Bani broke into tears. This was not how she imagined. She remembered Jai saying "Soch lena…" What was she going to do now?

Part 29

Jai came happily from the office carrying his bag. "Hello Masi…" he said as he sat between them.

Masi raised her brows. She looked at sideways at Dadi. Dadi stifled her laugh. Masi said, "Kya baat hai? Aaj masi ke liye achanak hello kahaan se aa gayi?"

Jai gave a closed mouth smile and looked down.

"Batao, Jai…" Masi said.

Jai smiled and opened his bag. He took out the two framed sketches and kept on the table. All the three ladies frowned in surprise.

Anu's jaws literally dropped. She took one picture. "Wow, yeh main hoon?" her eyes widened in surprise and glee.

Jai ruffled her hair. "Haan."

Dadi and Masi were looking at the other picture. "Bahut sundar hai beta." Dadi said.

Anu asked, "Lekin, kisne banaya?"

Jai smiled, "Bani ne…"

"Bani mami ne?" Anu's eyes widened.

"Humein toh pata bhi nahin…" Masi said.

Jai smiled, did not say anything. Then he asked, "Kahaan hai woh?"

"Subah se study mein thi. Ab bhi wahin par hogi." Masi said.

"Main zara use bulake lata hoon." He said and climbed the stairs.

He was smiling all the way to the study. He opened the door smilingly. As soon as his eyes fell on Bani, his smile vanished. "Bani…!" he whispered. He left the door open and rushed to her. He held her face and made her look at him. "Bani… Bani…" he shook her. He did not even know whether she was looking at him. Her eyes were clouded with tears and were flowing continuously down her cheeks. She was not making any noise, except for the sobs. Jai did not know what to do. "Bani… Bani, mujhe dekho… Dekho… Jai aaya hoon…" He shook her. "Bani… Bani… kya hua?" He held her face. "Bani, batao, kya hua?" Fear started to grip him. "Bani…" he raised his voice. But she was unaware of it. "Bani…" he raised his voice more. "Sun rahi ho na, main kya keh raha hoon…" there was no reaction from her. He raised his voice more. "Bani… mujhe dekho… look at me, dammit. Dekho mujhe…"

By then, the three ladies downstairs had rushed to the study hearing Jai's voice. They were shocked to see Bani's condition. They rushed to her side.

"Bani… Bani beta… Bani… kya hua, beta…" Masi said.

On the other side, Anu was saying, "Mami… mami kya hua?" And Dadi was saying, "Bani puttar… kya hua?"

Jai took a deep breath and ordered Tony over the intercom to ask the driver to keep the car ready in the portico. He immediately carried Bani carefully downstairs. The car was waiting over there. He made Bani lie on the back seat and sat beside her. He instructed the drive to go to the hospital. When the car started, he called Bani's consulting doctor over the phone and explained the emergency condition and that he was on his way taking her. He called the hospital and informed the emergency appointment with the doctor as told by her.

When he looked at Bani after finishing the call, she was lying on the foetal position and sobbing silently. He slowly tried to speak to her, "Bani…" There was no reaction. He gathered her to make her keep her head on his thigh. He wiped her tears slowly and rubbed her chest to calm her down. Her sobs died a little. Her tears did not stop. Due to traffic, it took some more time to reach the hospital. Jai was whispering soothing words to her throughout the drive.

She was wheeled into the emergency room as soon as he reported at the reception. He took a deep breath and sat in the chair outside the emergency closing his eyes burying his face into his palms. His body shook after few seconds. After few minutes, he removed his palms from his tear-stained face. He sniffled and wiped his face.

After half an hour, his mobile vibrated. He pulled it from his pocket and looked at the display. It was Aditya.

"Aditya?" Jai said.

"Kahaan ho tum?" he asked hurriedly.

"Outside emergency. I think… I think in first floor. Notice nahin kiya."

"Teek hai. Wohi par raho. I will be just there." Aditya ended the call.

Jai looked around. There was a drinking water purifier over there. He went and fetched himself a glass of water. He drank in one sip and let the cool water drench his stomach. When he came back to the place where he was sitting previously, he saw Aditya looking around for Jai. Aditya let out a sign of relief seeing Jai. Jai came and sat in the same place. Aditya sat beside him.

Aditya asked slowly, "Doctor ne kuch kaha?"

Jai shook his head.

"Kya hua? Achanak?" Aditya asked.

Jai let out a sad laugh. "Bani ke saath hamesha achanak hi toh hota hai…!" After a pause, he said, "Pata nahin. Main… main study ke andar gaya. Woh ro rahi thi… mujhe kuch samaj me nahin aa raha tha… woh kuch bol nahin rahi thi. Main darr gaya… sach mein Aditya… bahut darr gaya. Isliye fouran leke aa gaya…"

Aditya patted his back. "Sab teek ho jaayega, Jai." He said.

Jai laughed dryly. "Mujhe kuch aisa hi lag raha tha. Lekin ab nahin…"

Aditya resigned. He said, "Main ghar phone karke aata hoon." He placed his hand on Jai's shoulder in support and got up. He walked out of the emergency to make a call leaving Jai behind. After making the call, he came back and sat beside Jai.

After half an hour, the doctor came out. Jai and Aditya got up. Bani was wheeled outside the room. Jai looked at her in the stretcher.

The doctor came to them and said, "So?"

Jai took a deep breath. "Yes, Doctor."

"What happened?" she asked.

"Matlab? Kaisi hai?" Jai asked.

"Mr. Walia. Pechle baar hi maine kaha tha ki she is weak. I told you to take care of her. Par ab toh woh pechle baar se bhi buri condition mein hai… Kya hua?" The doctor said.

"She was fine. Do ghante pehle tak woh teek thi. She was happy. She was having her tea. Then… then I really don't know what happened…" Jai said worriedly.

"Kuch problem hai kya?" The doctor asked.

"Matlab?" Jai frowned.

"See, her blood pressure has dropped a lot. She was bleeding a little. We have sedated her. I am not sure about her condition right now. Tests le liya hai. Scan lene ke liye leke gaye hai. But, sorry to say Mr. Walia, there might a condition of abortion." The doctor said.

It was as if a bolt of thunder fell on Jai. He asked slowly, "WhWhat?"

"Yes, I am waiting for the results. We have sedated her and trying to arrest her bleeding. Aap ko wait karna padega." She said and left the place.

Jai fell into the chair dejectedly. Aditya sat beside him helplessly to console him.
