(Dedicated to Saby, who writes wonderful FFs with a message)
Long time ago there used to live a young woodcutter called Jai Walia. One day while he was out in the forest earning his living, he felt very thirsty. He stopped by a well to draw some water but in the process his axe fell into the well. JW started crying as he realised that he had lost the means of his livelihood. God heard his cries and took pity on him. But He decided to check out his character as well.
So He jumped into the well and came up to JW with a silver axe and said "Here son, this is your axe that you lost"
JW cried again and said "No God, this is not the one"
Impressed God decided to put him to an even greater test. This time he came up with a gold axe "Here son, here it is"
JW again refused it saying it was not his.
Impressed God decided to put him to a final test. This time he came up with a diamond encrusted platinum axe "Here son, this must be it!!!"
JW again refused it saying it was not his.
Impressed God now came up with his steel axe, which JW gratefully accepted with thanks. God blessed him and said "I was just testing you" and gave him the three other axes as well.
JW then sold those three axes and started a business and in due course became India's greater hotelier. He also married a pretty but somewhat batty woman called Bani. One day he decided to take her to the well where his fortunes began. He pointed out the well to Bani who decided to take a peek but in the process tumbled over.
JW started crying loudly. God heard his cries and decided to come to his rescue again. Sadly, another lady called Meera, who had lost her dulha on her wedding night had just tried to commit suicide in that very well and it so happened that God by mistake fished out Meera, instead of Bani. But before He realised what He had done He handed Meera over to JW, who gratefully accepted Meera without saying a word. God was furious and roundly upbraided JW for his treachery and dishonesty and threatened to take away his fortune just as He had blessed him once.
JW fell on God's feet and started crying again. He explained himself thus "Look Father if history is any guide, had I refused Meera you would have come up with Roshni and then Pia. I would have refused all of them and then when you would give me Bani back I would have said Yes. Then you had have asked me to keep Meera, Roshni and Pia as wives as well. But tell me how would I have survived with four psycho wives for company"
