Before I start, I want to add something here, when I wrote the rain must fall, I told that the story was based on true story. But Rain Maker is different. It is totally fictional and my comparatively "Big Head" is responsible for this story….😉



RAIN MAKER



A feeling of sadness and longing that is not akin to pain,
And resembles sorrow only as the mist resembles the rain.



Part One




It was the starting of a cool and calming day. Everything was set and undisturbed, the winter was pouring on in the congested life of Dhaka city. People were welcoming winter as it has become rare in this city due to global warming. While once, they experienced 4 months of chilly weather, it's two months now.



The lazy mornings were offering the people the luxury of some extra sleep hours, couples snuggling with each other. In some distant street homeless people was trying to buy maximum comfort by lighting fire. The whole city was celebrating the dawn of the winter, willingly or unwillingly.




But in this same city, there were many people, whom winter never can touch because of their busy schedules. For them, winter morning was different from a summer morning in only one sense, you need extra clothing.




In the heavy guarded area of cantonment, on the fifth floor of Building "Shapla" (water-lily) the morning chores were being performed. The head of the family was hurrying to go to the office and his wife was busy preparing him. The two lazy idle twins of them were getting ready for school sleepily. In the farthest room of the house, a pretty girl was getting ready to go somewhere.




She was wearing a pair of warm jeans, and a light orange jersey which has red prints on it. Her hair was up in a clip as she was wearing some earrings. While she was getting ready, she was humming…


It's funny how you sound
As if you're right next door
When you're really half a world away





She wore a bracelet in her hand and smiled to it fondly, how many memories are joined to it.



I just can't seem to find
The words I'm looking for
To say the things that I want to say



She put on the payels and as she was putting the black jacket around her the whole house was filled with cham cham noise of her payels. She took one last look at the mirror and grabbed the bag and went out. She met her uncle-aunty and two cousins and uttered a hurried apology for being late again and made a puppy face to her aunt as she started her usual "what a bad habit it is to go out without breakfast" lecture. She ran past the door and came out. Run was only thing in her mind, she was late again for class, it was 7.15 and her exam was on 7.45.


As she almost jumped in the driving seat of her very own Nissan she pulled the clip and let her hair fall till her waist. Letting her hair down is the key to confidence for her. She ran a hand lovingly through her hair, remembering a past conversation,



mean, you've got a nice haircut, but honestly, you'll look dashing in long hair.




I can't remember when I felt so close to you
It's almost more than I can bear
And though I seem half a million miles from you

Sighing once more, she started the car and zoomed off.

Far away from this, in a distant city, in classy and beautiful decorated bungalow, a very handsome young man was working on his laptop. It was almost midnight. He ran his hand through his hair. He stared at the blank for some 20 seconds and smiled to himself. Then he opened a picture folder and browsed through the photos, all of a pretty young, girl. He sighed.


There are lovers who walk hand in hand in the park
And lovers who walk all alone
There are lovers who lie unafraid in the dark
And lovers who long for home





His cell phone started beeping indicating that he's got a sms. He picked it up and a huge grin appeared in his face seeing the name. Jaan was flashing in the screen. He opened the message.



Reached BUET, term final today. Pray for me. For heavens, eat your dinner, it's midnight and give my love to Cissy.is she ok now? ILU ?



Oh, I couldn't leave you even if I wanted to
You're in my dreams and always near




He smiled lovingly, she knows me too well. How did she assume that I've not eaten my dinner? He sent a quick reply.

Jai looked at the phone till it showed, "message sent". Then sighing he went to grab something for eat, if he doesn't she'll know and will create a havoc. On his way down, he peeped inside the next bedroom to check on Cissy. She was sleeping peacefully. He put his hand on her forehead and it was normal. Thanks god, no fever. He went back on his Mission Dinner.

Bani climbed down the crowded stairs. Her hair was all up in a butterfly clip. She's taken of her jacket and it was hanging from her arms. She was busy checking her inbox. A smile appeared as she noticed one new message from Mon (heart). She opened it.


Will have dinner if I feel hungry. Best wishes for the exam, you'll do fine. Cis is doing alright, her fever is down. Take care of yourself, miss you..ILU 2 ;)



Will have dinner if I feel hungry, huh! Thought Bani as she unmindfully walked through the corridor, a shy grin in her face.




"Hey Beans! Wow, you must have given really great exam, the way you are smiling."




"Bhaia, it has nothing to do with exams." She said moodily to her older brother Nihan Dixit, who happens to be the teacher of BUET now.




"Hmm, reading message? From who? Let me see." He pretended to snatch her mobile. She immediately put in jeans pocket. "Bhaia! Behave! You're a professor here and I'm a student."




Nihan shrugged and said, "gotta run, see you."




Bani nodded and settled herself in a corner. She leaned against a pillar and waited for her friends. She sent a reply to Jai's message though she knows that he'll be asleep right now…
