Chapter 5 It is 9 o'clock at night and as Bani enters the house balancing her bag and files in one hand while the bouquet in the other, she notices and envelope on the dinning table with her name printed on it. She hangs her coat on the rack and places her keys on the key-hanger and head towards the table with her bag on the shoulder, files in one hand and bouquet in the other. She picks up the note and read it to herself:
Bani Beta,
Your Papa and I are going to a business dinner tonight. Most probably, we'll be late so I have placed yours and Rano's food on the table. Warm it up and eat it if it's cold. Make sure Rano eats it because she never will once she's behind her books.

Bani looks on the table and then back in her hand where she's holding the bouquet. She looks at it and admires the beauty of white lilies. Liles are a symbol of purity and happiness. One look at the flowers, it speaks the giver's feelings which says, "it's heavenly to be with you." It gives you the respect of being majestic and true to your self. It represents the trust and understanding between two people. It's longevity represent the longevity of relationships, which sets it apart from others. It's slow growing fragrance represents the slow growing love between two souls.
Bani placed the bouquet on the table lovingly and proceeds to shift the flowers in the vase. As she is doing that Rano enters the room.
Rano: "Arre di app agai? Acha hua app agai. I was waiting for you, now I can finally eat."
Bani, chuckles littly: "Rano tumhe khane ki ziyada aur meri kaam fikar hai. Kabse hone lagi yeh fikar? Pagli. Ok let me finish it here and then we'll eat together."
Rano, finally reaching the table, her eyes fall on the flowers: "Di yeh flowers kahan se aye? Who gave you flowers? Pehli baar appko kissi ne flowers diye hain aur woh bhi itni khubsuraat…Kaun pagal hai joh apne dimagh se bahir hoke yeh flowers de sakta hai?" she giggles and runs away from Bani because she knew what was coming next.
Bani frowns and tries to catch Rano: "Rano! Tum kabhi toh appne mazak kum kya karo. Har waqt apni di ke peeche padri rehti ho. Aur waise bhi mujhe bohut ladke flowers dete hain. But these were given by Jai," she lets out a sigh and wonders back to the events of the office and smiles dreamily.
Rano: "Tabhi main kahoon. Wakai Mr. Walia hi woh pagal insaan ho sakte hain. Aur waise bhi di jab woh yahan hain toh appko kissi aur…" she trails off and starts running while Bani chase after her. They both run around the table, Bani trying to catch Rano and Rano trying to avoid her hold. After sometime they collapse on the sofa and break into fits of laughter. After catching their breath, they both head to the table to eat. Bani warms the food on the plate for both her and Rano and the both eat their dinner merrily. They spend the rest of their dinner pulling each other legs, telling jokes and talking about the day. Bani enlightens Rano about how she received the flowers and what she thought. Their night is spent mostly talking to eachother.

Jai wakes up with a smile on his face and remembers yesterday, where he had given Bani the flowers for an apology and how her face broke into that million dollar sweet smile. He was passing by and saw her admiring the bouquet and smiling to her self sweetly. The whole time he was in office, he would be passing by her cabin every chance he got and he would see the same sweet and happy expressions on her face. He saw her in happy mood and it brought a smile to his face. Even with all the troubles of office, no matter how frustrated he was, one look at Bani, all his troubles were gone. Poofed. Vanished in a moment! Jai gets out of bed lazily and head towards shower. Gets ready thinking the happy thoughts but as he is thinking, his phone rings.
Jai: "Hello?...KYA!!! maine kaha tha na that I want this thing all cleared up today with the company!....No I don't want to loose this contract at all and nothing else is better than this! I want this contract by the end of today! I should hear the good news TODAY!!!"
With that Jai ends his call, rakes his hair messing it all up, and throws the cell on the bed in anger and frustration. 'Idhar se yeh contract mere haath se ja raha hai aur upar se Bani ka jawab na maloom hai. Kya karo main? Aisa lagta hai ke ek hi din main mein appni zindagi ki ahem cheezein kho doonga agar maine kuch nahi kya,' Jai thinks to himself in frustration and throws the nearest vase on the floor.
Upon hearing the breaking noise from Jai Mama's room, Anu enters the lion's cave with caution. She knocks on the door, waits and then enters when she hears no response from the other side.
Anu: "Mama-ji? Is everything ok?"
Jai stops and composes himself and turns around to face Anu but averts her eyes: "Kuch nahi Anu. Mere se bas yeh haath se phisal giya aur tote giya. Don't you have to go to college?" Avoiding the toping, Jai passes Anu and tries to shove her out the door but Anu stay glued to her place.
Anu: "Mama-ji, there is definitely something wrong with you. You know you never were a good liar and you can't hide anything from me. So now tell me what is bothering you. Itni subha ko kya hogaya hai ke appka mood kharab hai."
Jai, again tries to avoid the topic: "Anu kuch bhi nahi hua hai. There is nothing to hide, now please let's go; we're both going to be late."
Anu being Mama-ji's girl is adamant to get her answer: "Acha? Agar kuch nahi hua hai toh app mujse nazrein kyon nahi milla rahe hain? I'm not going anywhere until I get my answer. So now tell me what is wrong."
Jai knew now that the game of hide and seek is over because he has lost the battle against Anu. So Jai does the only thing he knew best to do with Anu to win: talk to her. He explains his entire dilemma and his frustration to her. Everything that is on his mind, he tells her, especially Bani's impending answer. In response Anu assures him about Bani.
Anu: "Mama-ji, please nothing will happen. You and Bani di share a special rishta. You guys have the relationship of the moon and sun. Of the earth and sky but nothing will break your relationship. So please have trust because that is the strongest will of your relationship."
Jai smiling all relieved: "Thanks Anu! You always know what to say to your best friend and Mama-ji don't you?"
Anu: "Arre Mama-ji after all I'm your chamchi and like Mama-ji aur unki chamchi!"
They both laugh and leave for breakfast. At the table everyone's chatting merrily away on how Bani is going to keep them happy by accepting this proposal. They were all discussing on how Bani would join the Walia Khandan and it will be the auspicious day in their life once she is theirs. They are going on and on about how good it is to have Bani in their life and Jai on the other hand is becoming nervous by the seconds. When he had heard enough he decides to change the subject.
Jai: "Ok guys I have some bad new." Before he can go on to explain, the whole table bombards him with their questions and comments.
Aditya: "Kya hua Jai…"
Massi: "Jai kya Bani ne na kaha?..."
Dadi: "Jai putar kya Sharukh ko kuch ho gaya hai? Toh meri Rani ka kya hoga?"
Ranveer: "Mama-ji kya appko meri uss baat ke bare main kisne bataya…."
Sahil: "Mama-ji joh bhi hai maine nahi kya…"
Jai all frustrated and little annoyed shouts at them. "Guys, guys calm down. Kuch nahi hua hai Aditya. Massi Bani ne aaj raat ko jawab dena hai. Dadi your Shahrukh is just fine and all well and your Rani is doing the same. Ranveer, we'll talk later. Sahil, (Jai chuckles) you are off the hook boy for once. No guys nothing happened except that I'm having trouble with our new project contract that we are supposed to get. We are having trouble in getting the project. So I was wonder if we could all pray that this project will be ours," Jai informs them
All take a sigh of relief after Jai's assurance but then get all excited again about the almost lost deal. They all assure him that they will pray and Massi says "Jai beta yeh deal tumhe zaroor milegi mujhe paaka yakeen hai. Aur kehte hain jab dil kissi cheez ko pyar se mangta hai aur sachai aur iman se mangta hai toh usko dunya ki har cheez milti hai. Aur tumne yeh deal sachai aur apni imandari se mangi hai toh tumhe zarooz millegi," Massi winks at him and Jai understands. Jai gets up to leave with Aditya and Ranveer, when Anu decides to join them since it was her day off. Jai thanks Massi and leaves to office.

At the office Bani and Anu catch up on their little talks. They are talking about Anu and Rohit and Jai and Bani. Both girls decided to catch up with their lives.
Bani: "So Anu, how's life with Rohit? I mean bohut romance karta hoga na tumse?"
Anu, all shy: "Bani di! Rohit is the sweetest and the kindest man I've ever met. He's always there for me and giving me all the support comfort. You know Di, being single I used to think that life couldn't get any better but now engaged to Rohit I think that life without Rohit would be nothing. It's funny how your mind changes a lot."
Bani smiles: "Well Anu what should I say about you and Rohit. You guys are made for each other. I'm glad that you decided to get married finally. It was about time you realized that being single is not all great."
Anu took this opportunity to talk to Bani about her decision: "Hmmm…. So what about you and Jai? I mean what are you going to tell him? And I promise you can trust me because I won't tell him at all. Cross my heart and hope to die."
Bani smiled at Anus witty sense of humor: "Anu we are great together as you can see. I mean we always understand each other always there for each other. We share everything and we understand each other better than ourselves but I'm afraid, still. Call me insecure and old fashioned but I'm not sure if I'll be able to…"
Anu: "Di, my Mama-ji is a sweetheart. He is the best partner you can find. You work for him and know him too well so I think you would be perfect for him. Besides he is sweating over there thinking you are going to reject him. And you are the only person who can tame him."
Bani, still reluctant: "But Anu yesterday he was outrageous and well he yelled at me. I know it was unintentional but still it was scary. I've never seen Jai like that before. I don't think I can tame him when he's like that."
Anu: "Don't worry di, Mama-ji will be like that again. It was all the stress that he's facing. So relax di and breathe in the cool breeze and then think with an open mind. I'm not asking you to make a decision now but please keep your mind open and observe what is around you and then decide at the last minute. Sometime last minute decisions are the best. You know what would be perfect for you if you decided to have dinner with us today at our house. Please don't say no or I'll use one of my favorite emotional blackmails on you."
Bani giggling: "Thanks Anu. I think this is enough to keep me survive the rest of the day and will put my mind to peace. I'll take up that advice of yours and will follow it definitely. So what else is new?"
And they spend the rest of their lunch like that until Bani had to go back. Jai on the other hand has been avoiding Bani at all cost because he didn't want to upset her again like yesterday. He didn't want to scare her especially today because today was the day. But the stars were not in his favors. Once again he had burst at Bani unintentionally and he had cursed his day away. But Bani had been a cool cat, surprising him. But still he was really mad at himself but after Anu informed him that Bani would be having dinner with them, he beamed with happiness and his mind set to work on the apology plan once again.

Bani arrives to Jai's house for dinner around 7 and they had dinner around 8. As she arrives, Jai and his family welcomed her with hearty welcome. This was not the first time she was meeting his family but the first time she was welcomed this openly and cheerily. Not that they would do it on the regular basis and not that they hated her but this time it was with full hearty welcome. They showed her around the house, especially to Jai's room, which was the first time Bani was seeing it. She was amazed by its vastness and its simplicity. It had that warming and welcoming feeling attached to it but a little empty feeling as well. His room contained a huge king sized bed, a study table, two side tables, a closet, a dressing and his little personal T.V.. The room had a balcony attached to it, which had a beautiful view of the backyard garden.
After the tour of the house, it was informed that dinner was served. At the dinner table Bani was entertained with all the Jai-ology from the parivaar. She was told about his childhood and his golden days. She found out a lot of things which she never knew or imagined Jai to be like. She laughed at his devil tactics an behavior when he was small. They showed her his baby pictures enjoyed very much. She even forgot about his outbursts and the proposal. This was all Jai's doing because a smile on her face meant his happiness and right now that made up for everything by judging by it.
After the dinner was over the time finally came for Bani to make a decision once again. And now she made up her mind finally but first she wanted to know it final time or rather hear Jai's reasoning again. As they are walking on the beach together, they are talking on random things but suddenly it shifts to the moment of the day.
Jai: "So Bani have you decided yet."
Bani stays silent for a while and bitting her bottom lip: "Jai I've already taken my decision but I want to confirm some things or have a heart to heart talk with you again before I reveal my decision. I hope you understand."
Jai, not liking where this was headed but decided to let it go: "Sure Bani I understand. So ask away."
Bani: "Jai how do I know that you will never burst like you did today and yesterday? How will I know that this kind of behavior won't affect me?"
Jai: "Bani I will never yell at you, you know that don't you?" Bani nods her head but Jai continues, "Bani you are the only person, who has that affect on me. You are the only who can control and the whole world knows it. What more confirmation you want? Isn't it enough that we have the understanding, love and faith in each other to go through with this together? No matter what obstacle we meet we will go through it together. And I know I will never go to any journey with out you by my side. So please say yes!"
But before Bani could give him her answers or reply, his cell rings and he picks it up. After a while he says thank you to the other line and a huge grin spread on his face and tells her that they had grabbed the deal, they've been waiting for a long time, finally.
Bani: "Jai I think you should celebrate for 2 things."
Jai frowns: "Why?"
Bani: "Because Jai my answer is yes."
Jai's face breaks into million dollar smile and picks up Bani and swings her around and shouts, "Bani you've made me the happiest man alive." He hugs her again and says, "I'm so glad you've agreed to help me run for my campaign."
