Chapter 22:
Jai spent the next 30 or so minutes sitting in his room, by himself contemplating his future plans. Once he had his decision made, he made his way downstairs for dinner. He knew that everyone would wait for him for dinner and it was getting past that time.
As he made his way downstairs, he noticed that everyone was busy playing some sort of a game. Masi was busy playing with Krish and getting herself acquainted with him. She was making futile attempts to teach Krish to say Dadi. Recollection of his experience from earlier today brought a smile to his face. He may not know anything else, but one thing was sure, his son was just as stubborn and arrogant as him.
Seeing him make his way downstairs and the smile on his face, Masi felt better. She was afraid of the after effects of their little talk.
"Arre munna, kya baat hai? You are smiling by yourself; let us in on the joke too."
"Nothing Masi, I noticed how you are trying to teach Krish how to say dadi. There is no point in doing so; he is just as stubborn as his old man. Khadoos bacha hai ekdum. Kyon Krish?" he joked. ๐ ๐
Everyone in the room looked at him joke, and slowly joined in including Tarun. It was a treat for them to see Jai smiling and he calling himself "khadoos" is something that would never happen again. Binita was the only one who did not follow the joke, but one word did catch her attention. She wondered why anyone would call Tarun khadoos, he was definitely not one. And yet the soubriquet sounded familiar, as if she had heard it before for someone, maybe even used it. What was it about this man? He seemed familiar to her the first time she had seen him, she could feel his pain when he had called for Bani those two times and now this. He had just used a word, that did not cause any reaction in anyone else, yet she could feel a connection with the word. Binita, you are just trying to dig your past, which as Tarun says is better left uncovered she told herself. And you probably just feel a bond with this man since we have both lost something in life.
"Rano, lets eat now. I am famished." Jai told Rano as he sobered up (he wasn't sure why he said that), as she made her way towards the Kitchen.
The dinner was quiet and almost uneventful, if you ignored Krish's antiques at the dinner table. First he managed to topple almost all of his food on Jai, as his high chair was placed next to Jai's chair (This kid definitely does not like JW ). Then next, he created a major fuss when Binita tried to feed him. Finally he slipped down the chair and crawled over to Tarun and ate only when his papa dearest fed him.
Jai went to change after dinner, while everyone sat down for some post dinner chatting.
"Kids, tomorrow morning everyone else is also going to join us. Why don't we do something fun tomorrow? What do you say?" Masi asked everyone once she had settled down.
"Sure Masi. How would you like to go sight seeing around here? There are also a few temples around here we could go to like the Delwara temples, Gurushikhar, and of course the Mata temple at Ambaji which is around an hour's drive. Infact, they are having the annual fair at Ambaji this time of the year. It would be fun to go there." Rano responded. She was super excited to see the rest of her family after so long and plus the prospect of spending the entire day with them was very enticing.
"Well then, we will go to Mata's temple. I feel that if possible we should also have a puja there. It has been a very long time since the whole family has come together and this occasion definitely calls for a puja. Sightseeing and the local stuff can happen over the week." Masi declared.
"Nani, mele mein bahot maza aayega. I have never been to a fair in my life, but saw them in movies. They have so many varieties of food and the clothes and stuff. I can't wait to go. Bahot maza aayega, kyon mamiji?" Laxmi asked Binita. Of course she had a slip of tongue, which only Tarun seemed to have noticed.
"Yes, I have always enjoyed these fairs. However, I am not sure if we should be going with Krish. He can be a handful to manage, especially when he is amidst all fanfare. Remember his first birthday Tarun?" Binita responded. She did not think twice about Laxmi's slip of tongue either.
"Of course. Masi, remind me to show you guys the pictures. It was so much fun." Tarun responded. "But I think it should be okay, with so many of us around to take care of him."
"Where are you guys planning to go?" Jai's husky (and oh so sexy ๐ณ ) voice asked.
"Not only us munna, we are all going to Mata's temple tomorrow. And yes, even you are coming."
"I can't Masi. I have decided to leave for Mumbai tomorrow. My work has been pending for so long and now that I am able to move around, I figured I should head back. But you all should continue."
"Jai, I am not going to take no for an answer. You can leave after that if you want, but not tomorrow. Girls, make sure you wear something Indian tomorrow okay? Normally I don't like to fuss, but for the puja it will be nice to see you all in a Sari."
"Masi, how can I wear a sari and that too in this condition?" Rano whined.
"Thik hain, but only you. Everyone else should still wear a sari or a dress. Binita especially you, since you are the suhagan and married women look good in a Sari when they go to Mata's temple. Chalo I will now go to sleep, I am too tired from the journey and tomorrow will definitely be a long day ๐ฅฑ ." (Okay so I admit I made stuff up here and it is pretty lame. I just want to make JW happy seeing her in a nice pink saree.)
Binita had a worried look on her face and she kept looking at Tarun figuring out if she should speak up now. She did not want to say no to Masi, but the problem was she had not brought any saris with her. How was she to wear one?
Rano and Sahil had also left by now, and so she could not ask Rano either if she could borrow one from her. She figured that she will talk to Rano in the morning.
"Binita, don't worry. Kuch na kuch intazam ho jayega kal subah. You go rest now, it's been a long day for you."
Tarun's response or rather statement to Binita irked Jai to no end. There was a time when he shared this bond with her where she did not even have to word her concerns and he still understood what she was thinking. He did not like that Tarun shared a similar relationship with her. With determined steps he headed to his room. ๐ก ๐ก ๐ก (Tarun tu to gayo...gaya bechara kaam se ab)
