I am first !!

Jaz that was amazing, but it is sad and depressing, but that part of life. Ups and Downs. Very emotional. Looking forward to the days when the sun comes up and brings a lot of happiness back into Jai's life.

Prt 14

That night/day was burned into Jai mind and would stay with him until the day he died. It was 230am, the streets of Mumbai were clear. Bani was sitting next to Jai with a protective hand over her stomach as if shielding her baby from any harm. Jai on the other hand was a nervous wreck. He was gripping the steering wheel so hard his knuckles were white. He remembered when Raashi Bhabi had her baby, they were all there. This time it was only him and Bani and soon their baby too. They told Ranveer Bhaia and Raashi Bhabi that they were going to the hospital. They had wanted to come but couldn't because they didn't have anyone to watch the babies so they stayed home. They both promised they would get their neighbor to watch the boys in the morning and would come to the hospital. Raashi Bhabi had assured Jai that they would be there for the birth, that it would take time. Since it was Bani's first delivery it would be a while until Jai would get to see his baby.

Jai felt his heart drop when he heard Bani gasp and grab the handle of the door. She told him it was nothing, just another contraction. They were getting stronger and more close together. She assured him it was all normal and that the real pain hadn't even begun yet. She soon settled back in the seat and relaxed a bit. Jai, however, was still a nervous wreck. Looking at Bani made him more uneasy. She was looking paler and paler every time he looked at her. It was like the color was leaving her face. Jai just put it down to a normal part of labor. After all, it wasn't a walk in the park.

They finally reached the hospital and checked Bani in. An orderly wheeled Bani into a deliver room, private of course. When they had arrived Bani's doctor was paged, and was on her way. Once they got Bani settled in Jai went in to see her. He didn't much like what he saw. She had an IV in her arm, she was hooked up to monitors, and some sort of belt was wrapped around her belly. Sensing his uneasiness Bani called him over and smiled at him lovingly. She then explained to him that these were all standard delivery things. The IV was to keep her hydrated and what not; the thing around her belly was connected to the monitor. It was keeping up with her contractions and the baby's heart beat to make sure everything was going smoothly. He settled in a little, but was still on the edge of his seat. After about 15min or so Banis doctor walked in to examine her so Bani asked Jai to get her some ice chips since that was all she was allowed for now.

Jai took his time and came back after 10min or so. As he was entering Bani's room the doctor was leaving. Jai looked at the doctor and something didn't settle with him. She looked worried for some reason. When he asked the doctor if everything was ok, the doctor gave him vague answers. She said that Bani was fine at the moment, her contractions were getting more powerful and closer together. She still had a while to go though. The doctor told him she would be back in 30min to check up on her again. It struck Jai as odd because he didn't remember such frequent check ups when Raashi Bhabi was having Aaryan, of course he wasn't there so he wasn't sure. He pulled up a chair next to Bani, who looked weak and so pale now. He fed her ice chips and stroked her hair. Whenever a contraction came he helped her by holding her hand and counting for her, and telling her to breath. Banis focal point was Jai, she kept her eyes on him.

After one contraction that seemed very intense Bani slipped back onto the bed and closed her eyes. He thought it was just her recovering, but in the next second something went off and started beeping. Jai was at his feet as two nurses came in and started checking the baby's vital signs and checking Bani. One nurse yelled for the other to call the doctor STAT. Once the doctor got there Jai was rushed out of the room, much to his protest. After a while, but seemed like hours, the doctor came out and had a look on her face that scared Jai.

J- Doctor what happened? How is Bani and our baby?
Dr- Mr. Walia your wife is refusing the epidural that I have recommended to her. Taking the epidural would make this delivery easier. She would feel less pain, and if something were to happen then we could perform an emergency C- section with out delay.
J- But why is she refusing the epidural?
Dr- Mrs. Walia says she want to have a natural child birth, as much as possible. And I cannot go against her wishes. See if you can talk her into it. Ill be back later.

Jai walks in to room to see Bani lying there with her eyes closed, hands on her belly. Jai goes over to her and sits next to her, holding her hand. He tried and tried to no avail to get Bani to consent on the epidural. He didn't like seeing her in this much pain, if there was something to make it better why didn't she want it. Bani's answer was that so many women had their babies naturally and she was going to be one of them. She wanted to feel every moment that led up to her baby's birth no matter how painful it was. Jai was putty in her hands so he could do nothing else.

It was almost 9am when they finally said that Bani was at ten centimeters and that it was time to take her to a proper deliver room. Jai insisted on eign with her but Bani was reluctant, like she didn't want him there. He told her and he too wanted to be by her side as their much awaited child entered the world. It took them a few minutes to get Bani prepped and Jai took that time to scrub in himself. When Bani saw him she let out a weak laugh. Seeing Jai in scrubs and a hair net was funny. He liked that she smiled because of him. Jai was astounded at what came next. He couldn't believe what was happening in front of his own eyes. Seeing Bani do this sprang a whole new type of love and respect for her. She was going through so much to give him a child. He knew that no one could ever replace her, in his life or his heart. It was totally hers. Bani held on to Jais hand and squeezed like nothing. It hurt but he kept quiet knowing his pain was nothing compared to Banis. Bani let out one final scream and one hard push and then he heard it. It was like music to his ears, his baby crying…and what a set of lungs. The doctor congratulated them..it was a GIRL…Jai did the honors and cut her umbilical cord. "Bani we have a daughter. We have a beautiful baby girl." Jai leaned down to kiss her forehead and thanked her for giving him such a great gift.

Then again suddenly monitors started beeping and the whole room turned upside down. He was rushed out of the room and sent to the waiting room. He was dying not knowing what happened to Bani. He couldn't even go to the nursery since they were cleaning up the baby too. After about 1hr the doctor came out with a frim look on her face.

Dr- Mr. Walia I have some bad news, please sit down.
J- What happened? How is Bani and out baby?!
Dr- Your baby is perfect Mr. Walia. She is 6.5 pounds of pure innocence and beauty. Everything is fine, her check up was perfect. Bani however…
J- What happened to Bani!!???
Dr- Mr. Walia I was not supposed to tell you but now there is no point in hiding the truth.
J- What truth? Whats going on!?
Dr- Mr. Walia I had told Bani from the beginning that her pregnancy was complicated and her delivery would be too. I had advised her to not keep this baby because it was a hazard to her health.
J- But…but…she told me everything was fine. That after the first trimester it was ok, that she was going to be fine.
Dr- Sorry but she lied to you. From the point when her pregnancy test was positive I told her that her life was at risk if she went through with this pregnancy.
J- What!? But I was at every check up and you always said everything was fine. Why didn't you tell me?!
Dr- First of all I only said that everything was fine with the baby, they baby was healthy. Bani on the other hand was getting weaker by the day, her health was severely compromised. I couldn't tell you because of doctor patient confidentiality.
J- I had a right, im the baby's father im her husband.
Dr- When it came to the baby you knew everything. I couldn't tell you about Bani because she had specified from day one that you were to get no reports on her health what so ever.
J- What? But why..why did she do this?
Dr- To her, giving you this baby was more important than her own life. She put her life on the line to give you this baby.

What the doctor was saying rocked his world. Why did Bani do this, why? She put her life on the line for his happiness.

Dr- I'm sorry to say Mr. Walia but that life is not going to be with us for too much longer. Bani is now going in and out of consciousness …she had lost too much bloos and her body is already weak from the pregnancy now add the complications of the delivery…im sorry…Bani doesn't have much time left.
