The last thing Bani sees before losing consciousness is the tall silhouette of Roshni holding a heavy glass vase above her head and smiling cruelly…
A loud BANG is followed by a louder CRASH!!!
The vase hits the floor and smashes to smithereens. Roshni turns slowly to face the one person that she had done all of this for, the man she had sought to attain by hook or crook… she turns to see his face like thunder, and sees disgust and hatred in his eyes. She felt cold… very cold. He was staring at her and turning her to ice… walking towards her… suddenly she was afraid…
She reaches up and places a shaking hand behind her shoulder… wrong again… the cold feeling was from the blood loss caused by the gunshot wound in her back. The room spins and Roshni falls to the floor… surprised to see Jai run towards her closely followed by a policeman holstering his gun.
Jai steps over Roshni's unconscious figure, kneeling in front of his wife. Tears form in his eyes as he holds her motionless body in his arms, her face white as a sheet, the red blood looking even darker in comparison.
Jai: Bani… Bani utho Bani… my god… I'm sorry… please mujhe aise chod ke mat jao… Bani… KOI ISSE HOSPITAL LE JAANE ME MADAD KARO FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!
With the help of one of the policemen he lifts her into his arms and takes her towards the car. The next hour or so go by in a blur as she is rushed to the hospital and hurried into an operation theatre by extremely anxious-looking doctor's and nurses.
Jigs, Dadi, Pia and Pushkar soon join him but everything they say falls on deaf ears. All Jai can think about is his wife and child lying behind those doors… fighting death… and there was nothing he could do about it.
After some time he receives a call from DCP Yadav to let him know that Roshni was receiving medical attention at a police facility and would be dealt with accordingly. He numbly answers the police officer's questions about Bani and tells him he would inform him as soon as she was capable of making any statement.
Pia: Yeh ho kya raha hai Mr Walia, andar itni der kyun lag rahi hai?!
Jigs: Pia doctor ne kaha toh hai-
Pia: Main aap se nahi, Banidi ke pati se baat kar rahi hoon!!
Jigs: Tameez se baat karo Pia… mujhe pata tumhe fikar ho rahi hai lekin-
Pia: Haan fikar ho rahi hai kyun ke andar MERI bahen ki jaan khatre main hai aapki nahin! Mr Walia toh unka khayal rakhne waale the na? Kya hua? Uski ex-girlfreind ke vajhe se aaj Di ki yeh haalat hui hai…
Pushkar: Pia please… calm down…
Pia: How can I calm down Pushkar?! Tumne suna nahin doctor ne kya kaha… Banidi… voh…
She sits down sobbing and Pushkar puts his arms around her shoulders. Jai stays where he is, sitting as if he is stone, the whole while not even lifting his eyes to acknowledge her.
The doctor comes outside and Jai springs up questioning him desperately, unnerved by the trepidation on his face.
Jai: Kya hua doctor sahab, Bani ko ab tak hosh aaya ke nahin?
Doc: Mr Walia… jaisa ke maine kaha Mrs Walia ki haalat bahut nazuk hai… she has lost a lot of blood and her anaemia has not helped matters… she was already weak upar se yeh… I have to ask you, and I understand it is a difficult situation lekin agar waqt aaya yeh faisla lene ka ke hum maa or bachche me se ek hi ko bachaa sake to aap kisse bachaana chaahenge…?
Jai looks at him in horror, paling, as Pia gets up and comes towards them.
Pia: Doctor sahab yeh kaisa sawaal hua… of course aapko Banidi ki jaan bachaani hogi, isme poonchnewaali kaunsi baat hai?!!!
Jigs: Pia doctor sahab tumse nahin Jai se yeh sawaal kar raha hai…
Pia: I DON'T CARE!! BANIDI MERI BAHEN HAI-
Doc: I'm afraid she is right… since Jai is her next of kin, yeh decision lene ka haq sirf uska hai…
Jai just stares at the doctor unable to process what he had just been asked to decide. Just the fact that he was being asked this meant that Bani's condition was very serious… the thought of losing his wife or his child filled him with a terrifying dread and it wouldn't let him breathe or speak. His child was as yet unborn but it was a part of him… of him AND Bani.
Pia: Inse kya poonch rahe ho?!! Agar inhe meri Di ke fikar hoti toh voh unhe Roshni ke sahara chod ke jaate hi nahin! Inhe koi haq nahin ke voh yeh decision le, he-
Jai, coldly: Pia… keep your voice down, this is a hospital.
She looks at him as if he has slapped her but he takes no notice.
Jai: Doctor sahab aap andar chaliye, hum aapke office me baat karte hai.
Pia gaped in disbelief as the doctor led Jai to his office and closed the door in her face.
A few minutes later they both came outside. Jai turned to the doctor.
Jai: Just tell me doctor, kya chaahiye aapko, what more can I do?
Doc, gravely: …Pray.
The doctor leaves for the operation theatre followed by another doctor and two nurses.
Jai lowers his head and walks past his waiting family without a word.
