Part 11

This time Jai, who couldn't take it anymore, decided to eavesdrop, pretending to use the bathroom. As he passed by the door, Bani say, "..kal ko tumhari birthday par hum zaroor kuch karenge"

Jai: aaj Rano ka birthday hai, shayad phone bhi usi ke bare mein tha hoga…

The next morning: its 3 days to the marriage

Jai is getting ready and he remembers that it is Rano's birthday. He is brainstorming ideas of gifts he could give her.

Jai thinking: I shouldn't give Rano something expensive. Knowing Bani, she might not like it. Waise bhi maine Bani ko hi koi proper gift nahi di, to usse pehle Rano ko koi expensive gift….shayad achha na lage. Kya du………………

Jai reaches his office and calls his secretary. She comes in

Jai: ek bouquet aur ek chocolate cake ka order kardo, aur mere ghar bhijwado.
Secretary: yes sir, anything else
Jai: aur card pur happy birthday bhi likhwana, now I have an important meeting with a client. Please make sure I am not disturbed. And please order the cake and flowers immediately.
Secretary: yes sir.

At her office, the secretary calls up Occasions, a gift and services company to place the order.
Secretary: this is the order, please do it immediately, and it has to be sent to Mr. Jai Walia's house.

Representative: yes ma'am. Jai Walias house ok. No I don't need the address. So its from Jai Walia, and who is it for?

Secretary thinking: oh crap! Maine sir se poochha hi nahi. I cant disturb him either.
Secretary: plz don't write any name for the addressee. Uh um, the person will understand.

Representative: ok ma'am it will be done soon. Thank you for your service.
At the Walia House:
Bani is sitting in the drawing room going through a magazine. Just then the doorbell rings. Tony opens the door. The delivery boy hands over a bouquet and a box to Tony. Tony keeps them on the table and Bani checks them out.

Bani reads the card. It has Jai's name on it but no addressee and reads "happy birthday"
Bani thinking, unable to control blushing: Mr. Walia ne mere liye bheja…….unko kaise pata laga? I cant believe it…….

She gets dreamy, and keeps the cake in the fridge, and takes the bouquet to her room. The whole day she is happy, and calls Jai:

Jai: Jai Walia here
Bani: um hello, Mr. Walia, mein
Jai thinking why she called: Bani tum? Koi khaas baat?
Bani: mein thanks kehna chahti thi
Jai remembers: Thanks ki kya baat hai.
Bani: Mujhe bohot achha laga
Jai: aur Rano, use pasand aya?
Bani thinking: yeh Rano kaha se aagayi
Jai: hello Bani, line par ho? Meri meeting hai
Bani confused, hurries up to end the conversation: ji who haan…..
Jai: theek hai. Bye

Bani thinking: Rano kaha se aagayi

Later that day, Bani and Rano go for lunch with Pia. They return home. Jai returns as well. On his way to his room, he sees Rano in the corridor. He smiles at her but she gives him the most unaffected look.

Jai thinking: Ajeeb baat hai. No thanks no smile..
Rano thinking: yeh Mr. Walia ko kya ho gaya. Mujhe smile di? Shayad is liye khush hai kyu ki hum 3 dino mein ja rahe hai.

She smirks as she walks away. Jai enters his room and sees Bani there. Bani has the flowers placed right in front of her and she is smiling. Jai enters the room. Bani gives him a cute, tight smile. He notices the bouquet.

Jai: Bani yeh bouquet yaha kya kar raha hai?
Bani, shocked, unable to understand: ji…..Mr. Walia aap ne hi to
Jai, amused: Haan maine Rano ke liye bheja. Uska birthday hai na. Tumne Rano ka bouquet apne paas rakh liya?
Bani, cant understand whats going on: ji mein Rano
Jai: Matlab abhi Rano ko nahi diya
Jai thinking: achha to isliye Rano ne mujhe thanks nahi kaha
He takes it and goes to Rano.

He goes into her room. Rano is surprised to see him with the flowers.

Jai: Rano mujhe pata hai aaj tumhari birthday hai. Yeh lo happy birthday. Maine tumhare liye cake bhi bheja tha. Im sure you like chocolate cakes.

Rano, understanding whats going on controls her giggles: Aaj meri birthday nahi hai!!
Jai getting embarrassed: are you sure? I mean. I heard you last night…
Rano, calming down: Mr. Walia, aaj birthday to hai, par di ki

Bani is standing right by the door. She had followed Jai into Rano's room. Bani is totally embarrassed and Jai is standing right there, amazed at his foolishness. Jai turns to Bani

Jai softly: oh! Um I………I….sorry. Tumne bataya nahi….
Bani giggling in between: its ok Mr. Walia, really

Sahil is watching from a distance. He sees the commotion and thinks its Rano's birthday as well.

Jai and Bani go back to their room.

Sahil: Rano tumhari birthday hai?
Rano: Sahil tum bhi! Nahi meri birthday nahi hai.
Sahil: to phir yeh sab
Rano: actually aaj didi ki birthday hai, aur Mr Walia samjhe ki meri birthday hai.
Sahil: par phir bhi mein tumhare liye kuch laya.
Rano: mere liye?
Sahil: Rano I love you , yeh ring tumhare liye. Mein janta hoon tum bhi mujhse. Please kehdo
Rano: Sahil jo nahi ho sakta wo nahi ho sakta. Didi ke liye problem ho jayegi. Mein yeh ring nahi le sakti. Forget it.
Sahil: kal hi mein dad aur Jai mamaji se baat karunga..
Rano: tum aisa kuch nahi karoge.
Sahil just walks away with a determined look.
Rano: Sahil
Rano to herself: forget it! Nahi manega.

In the JB room:
Jai: Bani Im really….mera matlab….Happy Birthday
Bani: Thank you
Jai, not knowing what to do, just hands over the same bouquet to her
Bani: Thanks
Jai: Im sorry, par mein tumhare liye kuch nahi laya
Bani: its ok Mr. Walia, mujhe phool bohot pasand hai.
Jai: Mein bhi! I should have asked you before assuming things. Tumhare liye kuch to lata

Before Bani can say anything, Tony knocks on the door.

Bani opens the door. Tony hands her an envelope that was delivered some hours ago. Divorce Summons, Mr. and Mrs. Walia. Pulled back to reality brutally, Bani's eyes well up. Containing her shock within herself, she takes a few steps toward Jai, and hands him the notice.

Bani: aapke liye

Jai, still in his embarrassed mode, cannot believe his foolishness. He takes the envelope, without looking at it, keeps it on the table, and goes to freshen himself up. Bani just leaves the room without giving Jai another look. She heads for the garden, where she breaks down again.

Bani thinking: Kyu bhool gayi mein!! Maasi ja rahi hai 3 dino mein. Divorce hearing bhi hai.

Bani convincing herself: koi fark nahi padta! Atleast I will be peaceful, away from everyone with Rano. Life will be the same as before, in Mt. Abu. I will just fulfill the few responsibilities I have until Anu's wedding. Then I will be done!

Bani comes back to the room.
Jai: Bani….Bani kya tum dinner pe chalna chahogi
Bani: Nahi Mr. Walia, Tony ne sara dinner bana diya hai.
Jai sensing her stiffness, to himself, and guilty he didn't do anything for her birthday, decides to not bother her anymore: kya hogaya achanak.

The day before the wedding: Bani is very gloomy, yet totally involved in the wedding preparations. Jigyasa is busy as well.

Sahil has a talk with Aditya, and tells him everything.

Sahil goes to Jai.
Sahil: Mamaji I want to talk to you
Jai: Sahil tum, everything ok
Sahil: mein…who…college khatam ho gaya hai to mein….mujhe business join karna hai
Jai: wow Sahil, That's great. Tum wohi Sahil ho? Yakeen nahi ho raha. Im very proud of you. Lekin yeh batao, yeh sudden change kaise?
Sahil: ji, woh, mujhe kisiko responsible ban kar dikhana hai. Mamaji who
Jai: bolo, im like your friend right
Sahil: Mamaji I like someone par mom kabhi nahi manengi.
Jai surprised: what? You are in love? Sahil? Kisse?
Sahil: mamaji aap ko shayad gussa aye, par ab wohi mere liye sabse important hai.
Jai: yeh to batao kaun hai
Sahil quietly: Rano
Jai shocked: Rano?
Sahil:ji mamaji, kya aap kuch kar sakte hai
Jai: Sahil mein, mein kya kar sakta hoon. Let me think it over.


Wedding day:

After helping Anu out, Bani is getting ready. She dresses in the lehenga that Jai had bought for her earlier. Jai cannot take his eyes off of her. He wants to compliment her but retrains himself. Since the past days he has been battling opposing emotions in his heart. On one hand he wants to free her, on the other he cannot imagine life without her.

Bani is remember her wedding day. How everything was so sudden. And today again, suddenly the time has come when he has to leave.

The wedding has been arranged lavishly. Its time for the actual ceremony. Anu and Rohit get up to perform the saath phere. Jai is standing on one side, and Bani is standing opposite him. With each round, both Jai and Bani are remembering their marriage. Jai has a smile playing on his face when he glances at Bani. He sees silent tears flowing down her face.

Jai: Bani is feeling trapped. Why else would she cry……..

He takes a step towards her but stops himself: What support can I lend her. Kahi na kahi mein hi in aasuon ki wajah hoon

Bani: Shaadi kitni khushi ka mauka hota hai. Kal Anu ka apne sasural mein pehla din hoga, aur mera aakhri. Kitni ajeeb baat hai.

Anu's departure has everyone crying tears of joy and sadness simultaneously. Jigyasa cries her heart out. After a while, Aditya sees Sahil sitting in a corner, in a pensive mood.

Aditya: Son , what happened. Kaha khoye hue ho
Sahil: kuch nahi Dad, bas yuhi, Anu chali gayi na
Aditya: wo to theek hai. Par koi aur reason bhi hai. Aur shayad mein janta hoon. Kal ki baat hai na
Sahil: Dad mein kya karu
Aditya: Beta time never waits for anyone. Hurry up before you lose her
Sahil looks up in hope
Sahil: Dad iska matlab aap mere saath hai? Can I expect your support?
Aditya: Ofcourse
Sahil: But mom aur Ranveer bhaiyya
Aditya: beta un logon ne bohot manmani kar li. You take the decision you want. I will make sure nobody will stop you. Its you who has to spend your life, not others.
Sahil: Thanks dad, mein kal hi baat karunga.

Jai is on his way to his room, passes by them.

Jai: Aditya everything fine with Sahil? Tension mein lag raha hai?
Aditya: Jai mein usse samjha raha tha ki wo der na kare. He has to act now or he may lose something precious.
Jai: actually Sahil ne mujhe bataya tha, to phir, are you ok with this. Tum uske baap ho
Aditya: Jai mein apne bete ke saath hoon. Ranveer ka nahi pata, par mein khush hoon ki mera chhota beta pyaar ko importance de raha hai. Im going to stand with my son.
Jai (subconsciously he wants Sahil to go for Rano, because atleast that will keep him connected to Bani, but he dismisses his thought thinking how selfish he can get) : Waise Sahil ne meri raye maangi thi. Par yeh tum dono ki marzi hai. Chalta hoon.

Jai just sits in the drawing room thinking deeply. The restlessness in him is increasing by every passing second. It feels like something is sucking the life out of him. There is a hollow feeling. Emptiness everywhere.

Jai thinking: But how can I !!?!! What if the answer is no. What should I do! Mein……

He goes to Maasi's room.

Masi: arre Jai tu yahan.
Jai: Masi soyi nahi?
Masi: beta kal nikal rahi hoon na, sara saman ikattha kar rahi hoon.
Jai softly: Masi ruk nahi sakti??
Masi: beta pehle bhi samjhaya na tujhe. Jana zaroori hai. Lekin mein kuch hi mahino mein phir se milne aaoongi apne munna se. Bohot der ho gayi hai. Soo ja
Jai heartbroken: ji masi.

Jai goes to his room and proceeds to change. He doesn't find his night gown on the bed. He looks around he doesn't find Bani. He panics. Assuming the worst, he just sits on the bed, moist-eyed when he sees an envelope on the table. He remembers Tony handing it to Bani the other day. He reaches for it. He opens it to find a letter summoning them to court for their divorce hearing. Totally Shattered he crumples the paper and throws it toward the door. It lands at Bani's feet as she enters the very moment.

Part 12

Jai goes to his room and proceeds to change. He doesn't find his night gown on the bed. He looks around he doesn't find Bani. He panics. Assuming the worst, he just sits on the bed, moist-eyed when he sees an envelope on the table. He remembers Tony handing it to Bani the other day. He reaches for it. He opens it to find a letter summoning them to court for their divorce hearing. Totally Shattered he crumples the paper and throws it toward the door. It lands at Bani's feet as she enters the very moment. Relieved at the sight of her, he just stands up staring at her

Jai, sighing: Bani……..
Bani: Mr. Walia aap se baat karni thi
Jai: Bani tum kaha chali gayi thi
Bani : mein Rano ke saath thi, mein aapse baat karna chahti hoo
Jai: Bani mein..
Bani cutting him: Mr. Walia kuch kehne ki zaroorat nahi hai. Mujhe sab yaad hai. Aap fikar mat kijiye. Rano ke saath kal hi nikal jaoongi.

The reality of the situation hits him like a thunderbolt! Aditya's words run through his mind: Jai waqt nahi rukta. He sees the divorce letter lying on the floor. Bani's words echo through his mind again and again. There is a battle in his conscience. My happiness lies with her. Maybe its not the same for her. Maybe she is relieved. Or what if its not what I am thinking. What if she wants what I want.

With a determined look, he thinks: I cant….No I cant!!

Bani chokes as she says that line, turns around to leave to Rano's room. She wants to cry her heart out. But no. Not in front of the man she loves. She doesn't want any pity. She has to control herself. She reaches for a door handle when she feels a hand on her shoulder.


Jai: tumse kuch kehna hai
Bani hardly able to speak out: ji

Bani still has her back facing to Jai when he begins speaking.

Jai: Bani mein tumse maafi mangna chahta hoon. Tumhe bohot takleef di hai. Tumhari bohot insult ki hai. Par ab mujhe pata chala ki mein kitna galat tha. Maine Jigyasa ki baatein sunli thi, and I found out that you never withdrew those 70 lacs. Us raat maine tumhe aur tumhari behno ko bohot bura kaha. Bani I know you will never forgive me. But I am really sorry. I wish I could go back in time and erase all the hurt I threw at you.

Bani who had her hopes high again when he stopped her, shattered once more.

So he just wants to clear things before I leave.

Bani still controlling her tears: Mein jaanti hoon ab sab clear karna chahte hai mere jane se pehle. Par mein sab bhool chuki hoon

Jai: Bani aur ….aur kuch bhi kehna hai

Jai: I may not be worthy of forgiveness for all the harsh words I used against you. I may not be worthy of anything else either. Phir bhi mein apne aap ko rok nahi sakta. Mein nahi janta ki tumhari dil mein kya hai, par mere dil ki baat mein jaanta hoon.

Bani: Mein samajh nahi pa rahi hoon

Jai: jisse tum pyaar karogi wo bohot naseeb wala hoga. Tumhare saat rehkar to koi bhi tumse pyaar karne lage ka. Bani….

Then immediately in one breath: Bani I love you!

Bani turns shocked and opens her mouth to say something when Jai:

Continuing: Bani mujhe puri baat karne do. Koi zor nahi hai. Mein bas jo dil mein hai wo kehna chahta hoon. Is mauke ko haat se nahi jane deta. Im not sure what you want, but I don't want to regret in the future that I didn't try.

Bani tumne mujhe sacha pyaar sikhaya hai. Something I had never experienced. Bani what I feel for you I have never felt for anyone. Roshni aur Pia ke liye jo bhi tha, wo kabhi itna gehra nahi tha. Roshni se alag ho kar kabhi zyada dard nahi hua. Aur Pia se alag ho kar, sirf mera ego hurt hua tha aur kuch nahi. Par tum se alag …aaj jab tum nazar nahi aayi to mujhe aise laga jaise mujhse akela dunya mein koi nahi hoga. Ab tumhare bagair me kuch nahi hoon.

He stops for a while, when he hears nothing from her, he continues with guilt.

Bani tum par koi zor nahi. I know you have your life to live. I…know you love Push….

Unable to continue, he leaves the room to his study. As he pours himself a drink, he hears Bani who is standing at the door.

Bani crying profusely, slightly accusatory : aap kabhi bhi doosro ki baat kyu nahi sunte. Us din bhi mujh se paiso ke baare mein safai nahi mangi.

Jai leaves the drink, looking down, guilt dripping from his face: Bani Im sorry. Shayad maafi mange ke layak bhi nahi hoon., kash mein sab wapas le pata…..

Bani now a bit quieter, still crying: Mein sab bhool chuki hoon. Mein bohot aage aa chuki hoon. Pushkar ki dosti ko mein galat samajh bethi thi. Wo sirf meri behen ka pati hai aur ek achha dost. Wo sab sirf infatuation tha. That was not love.

But this …………this is love.

In this moment of revelation, Jai raises his eyes to meet Bani's. It couldn't be a dream. Bani almost runs away to their room, shy at her admission to him. It was hard to believe.

Did I hear her properly? Is that what she said?

Did I say it to him. Oh my god….Did I say it to him?

Jai, as if hypnotized just follows her quietly. He finds Bani in front of the mirror, staring at her reflection. As soon as she sees his reflection she downcasts her eyes, still crying. Jai closes the door behind him and goes to her.

Jai: sach
Bani doesn't reply as she keeps looking down.

Jai goes to the cupboard to get the ring he had bought for her some days back.

Jai: um yeh tumhare liye…
Bani turns to see the beautiful ring. One look, and she has a smile on her face.

Bani smiling despite her tears: mere liye
Jai: for the woman I want to be with forever….I don't think it can be anyone else but you.

He touches his forehead with hers. He takes her hand and delicately slides the ring on her finger.

Jai: Bani I have never felt so happy. Tumhari haan ne mujhe itni khushi di hai. I was dreading to be left without you.

Bani: Mr. Waliya ,meine kabhi nahi socha tha ki ………mujhe yakeen nahi aa raha…

Jai caresses her face with her hand as if to give her assurance. Bani has her eyes closed. He wipes away the tears and takes her in an embrace. He loosens her tied hair and looks deep into her eyes as they pull back.
Jai: aaj tum shadi mein bohot khubsoorat lag rahi thi,,,

Bani blushes red as she feels him coming closer. He slowly removes her jewelry. Jai then slides his arms around her waist as he showers her with kisses. He then carries her to the bed and lays her down……….a night of love awaits them as all the buried passions are released.

The next morning. Bani is the first to wake up. She sees him sleeping right next to her, with his arm over herself. She carefully gets up smiling and shy, gets ready and goes downstairs. Jai then wakes up. Realization hits him and he smiles at his incredible luck. He thanks his stars for making what would have been Bani's last day in his life, the beginning of their new life. Together. He gets ready and joins everyone downstairs. He sees everyone at the dining table, but finds Bani missing. His eyes search for her madly, and finally he asks Masi where Bani is. Masi answers that she doesn't know.

Meanwhile Bani is at the temple praying for a happy future for herself, her husband and her sisters. Once she is done,

Bani extremely shy, thinking: o god. Mein gharr kaise jaoo.

Later she arrives home, and at the same time Anu arrives for her pug-phere ki rasam. Masi opens the door to find them outside. She welcomes Anu inside. Everybody gathers.

Masi: meri beti Anu, kitni sundar lag rahi hai. Bohot khush lag rahi hai, aaj mein bohot khush hoon.

Masi: aur Bani, tu bhi! Kitni sundar lag rahi hai aaj. Poori tarah se sukhi lag rahi hai. Kuch to baat hai.

Jai gives Bani an intense stare, as she tries to hide herself from his view. Bani highly embarrassed tries to leave but everyone stops her. Everyone has a good time and then it is time for Masi to leave. Jai and Bani go to see her off at the airport.

Masi: tum logo ki bohot yaad ayegi. Khaaskar teri Bani. Teri aadat ho gayi hai.
Bani hugs Maasi as she gets emotional: Masi kya aap ruk nahi sakti
Masi: Tu dekh, phir 3-4 mahino mein main milne aaoongi. Par tab tak mujhe ek khush khabri bhi chahiye. Kyu, kuch samjhi

Bani gets so embarrassed that she doesn't no where to look. She cant even expect some support from Jai who is giving her mischievous looks.

Jai: Masi aap fikar mat kijiye. Kaam ho jayega.
Masi and Jai start laughing leaving Bani to her embarrassment.

After seeing off Masi, Jai and Bani finally get some time alone, driving back. Bani is hyper thinking when they will reach home. She just wants to run to her room and hide under the comforter. On the other hand, Jai does not stop giving her those looks.

Jai: waise kal raat
Bani becomes slightly stiff
Jai: achha mausam tha hai na…

Jai is enjoying every moment teasing her,finally they reach home, Jai goes to his room, but Bani makes an excuse and goes to the kitchen. Finally she has to go to her room to get something. Jai who is reading something notices her go into the washroom. Finally when she comes out she sees Jai standing right in front of her. She tries to get past him when he holds her by the waist.

Bani looking everywhere but at Jai: Mr. Walia mujhe kaam hai please
Jai: Bani tumhe to subah se kaam hai. Tum har jagah ka kaam kar rahi ho siwaye bedroom ke.

Bani: looks down smiling. Please
Jai naughtily: nahi. Mein nahi maan raha. Mujhe batao kyu bhaag rahi ho mujhse. Ab itni bhi kya sharam. Kal raat to kuch aur hi kar rahi thi. Agar yaad nahi to mein yaad dila doo.
Bani: Dadi bula rahi hai
Jai: tumhare kaan baj rahe hai. Aur mere khayal se tum meri biwi ho employee nahi. To yeh Mr. Walia achha nahi lag raha. Waise to bohot dino se kehna chahta tha par chalo ab hi sahi
Bani: Mr. Walia mein aapko kuch aur nahi bol sakti.
Jai still holding her by the waise: kyu nahi. Try to karo. Jai. Simple
Bani: nahi
Jai: Jai
Bani: nahi
Jai: acha chalo suniye bhi chalega
Bani: Suniye
Jai: Ji kahiye
Bani: Dadi bula rahi hai
Jai: jayeeye, lekin jaldi ayeeye, Kam adhura chhodna achha nahi hota. Masi ko vada diya hai, pura karna hai
Bani just walks away quickly.
