Chapter 16

Krishna Walia took Bani for a tour of the house. She finally took her to the guest room.

'Bani you will use this room…'

'Thank you… ' bani did not know what to call her.

'And Bani you can call me bua…' said after a thought.

Bani smiled.

Bani couldn't sit still in the house as a guest. She was used to working. She went to the kitchen to help the maid. Krishna saw her and took her away from the kitchen.

'You are a guest here.. sit quietly Bani. you have done enough work. Now it's time take some time off..'

'I can't just sit like that ….' Said Bani.

'You will get used to…' she took her to the TV room and switched on a movie channel.

Jai was back from the work. He had to spend extra time at the office. He went looking for his mother. He heard the sound coming from the TV. He went to look for her there. Jai was surprised to see Bani seated next to his mother and watching TV. He was aware his mother had gone to his Mamu's house but he was not sure mamu would send her with his mom. Both his ma and Bani turned their heads as they heard the footsteps.

'Jai…. I'll get you tea…'said his mom and walked out of the room leaving Bani and him. Bani looked little ill at ease.

'When did you come?' he asked.

'Morning…' she slowly moved to the door to leave he said, 'I won't eat you up Bani..'

Bani looked at him embarrassed.

'welcome home..' he said.

She managed a smile. Krishna called Bani.

'Ji Bua..' she called out and left him stare after her. 'Bua? Yeh nahin ho saktha..' he shook his head.

His ma brought him tea and he asked. 'you asked her to call you Bua?'

'Yes Jai… she is my niece right? And your sister..'

'No…'

'No?' Krishna looked at him. 'You did not like me bringing her here?'

'Er no of course not ma.. you know me…' he took the tea and left to his room. He did not know how to make his mother understand. It was all his mamu's doing.

Krishna chatted nonstop to Bani during dinner. Jai had his food quietly.

The room Bani was given was huge and beautifully decorated. She sat on the bed lost in thoughts. She never in her wildest dream thought she would meet her mother, and when she met. The one person who should shower her with loves hated her from the day one. She was showered with love and affection from everyone except her mother and here.. the nephew of her papa says he likes her. no matter what he says he was not going to back out and his mother thinks she is her niece, her brother's illegitimate child.. Bani felt her head would explode at the thoughts. She lay down on the bed and tried to get some sleep.

Bani was up in the morning. She went to the kitchen and made tea. Krishna Walia came down from her room. She wished her morning. Bani handed her the tea.

'Jai has gone for jogging Bani. He will have tea later.'

Bani and Krishna sat down to read the paper.

Their maid came few minutes later. Krishna walia went to give instructions to the maid. When Bani offered to help she declined saying she was their guest.

Jai came back from his jog. He opened the door and saw her reading the paper. Bani looked up as she heard the sound of the door.

'Good morning.' He said.

'Good morning…' she did not know what else to talk to him. He saw her tentativeness he said, 'feel at home if you need anything Bani tell ma or me.. you will be always welcome.'

'I am fine.. everything is fine.'

'good then.. tell ma I'll have early breakfast… I'll go and freshen up..'

'Ji bhai..' Bani deliberately stressed the last word.

Jai who was about to climb the stairs froze on his track.

'Bhai?

'Bani.. in logon ko tho akkal nahin hein lekin thum…' he pointed towards the kitchen. 'mamu ko tho mein dekhloonga… its him who have messed up the whole thing..' he muttered.

Bani stood watching him. she felt the situation very funny. She stood with a straight face. He took a step back and looked at her and then said seriously. 'do you honestly consider me as your brother? I want a straight answer.'

She looked away and nodded. If this is it then be it she thought.

'Look at me in the eye and tell me do you think me as your brother?'

She lifted her eyes towards him.

'Tell me.. I want to know it should be the truth..'

'Consider me as your sister..' she whispered.

'Bani I asked you a straight question do you think me as your brother? Have you anytime thought me like Sahil?'

She never did. She liked him she was in the seventh sky when he told her he likes her but she can think him as one. She can train her mind to accept him as her brother.

'I got my answer Bani. if you thought me as your brother you wouldn't stand here and think the answer would be immediate.. I know you fear the consequences.. you be with me.. we will solve all the problems. I promise…' he looked expectantly at her.

'you are Impossible…' she muttered.

Krishna Walia walked in and saw him talking to her she asked, 'ready for breakfast?'

'In ten minutes..' he went upstairs to change.

Sahil went to get Jigyasa. He had called her last night to tell her about Bani. She did not ask him where she went nor did he tell her where Bani was. He hated arguments with her which got nowhere.

Pia feigned head ache. Anu left to school. Aditya went to his office. He was surprised to see Pia in the kitchen. She had braught him tea and breakfast. When she saw his looks she asked, 'what happepend papa?'

'I am seeing my girl grown up.' He smiled. 'Bani has done a good job.'

Pia's face tightened at the mention of her name. Aditya understood her. she was angry with Bani for leaving the house. He patted her cheek and went to have breakfast.

Sahil missed his college for the day. it was almost afternoon when they reached home. Betty her nurse too accompanied with them.

Jigyasa stepped in to the house with a victorious smile. Sahil helped her to her room. One look at the room she knew Aditya was still using upstairs….. Whatever…. she thought. he will come around.

Anu was ecstatic to see her mother. Pia made her point to look in on her. Aditya went to meet Bani on his way from his office. He spent little time with her and returned home. He saw Jigyasa in the living room watching something on Tv. She looked up as she saw him. she expected him to speak to her. he looked over his shoulder and called Pia.

'Pia get me a cup of tea…'

Pia came down the stairs and nodded. He went past her to his room. Pia watched her mother controlling her anger. She looked at her father go and sighed. 'Now what?' she muttered.

Jigyasa was witnessing a new side of her children. They shared their duties took care of the house Pia looked into the kitchen and ordered the maid about the menu. She took tea to Jigyasa. Sahil helped her with breakfast, arranging the table Anu helped in serving and their father sat like a king at the table to have his breakfast. Their changes were good and welcoming and she should be proud of them instead she hated what she saw. This was Bani's doing. She had instilled in them certain responsibilities and she hated anything that related to Bani. She sat on the chair and coughed to draw attention. When she got what she wanted she said, 'you don't have to do all this work. It's time for your studies take care of that. I am here I can look after the house.'

Sahil on his way to the college knocked on Pia's door and went in.

'Pia I'll go to Bua's house after college, you coming?'

'No, I am not coming I don't want to see anyone.'

Sahil chuckled. 'Stop being angry. You know she couldn't help it.'

'don't you side her bhai.. I am not coming you go, take Anu with you.'

'okay, as you wish.'

Bani was excited to see Sahil. 'Bhai… where's Pia and Anu?'

'Pia is still angry.. Anu, I did not ask her.. ma is home and you know she will make some hungama and block me too Anu can come and see you later with papa perhaps.'

She smiled. She held his hand took him to the living room. Krishna saw him and asked about Jigyasa.

'she is fine Bua..'

'And your papa?'

Sahil smiled. He did not want to tell her they still used different rooms and Aditya has not spoken to Jigyasa. Though ma had tried to poke him he had avoided any contact.

Krishna left them to get him something to drink.

'How's ma? Sahil is she okay?' asked Bani after Krishna left.

Sahil looked at her in surprise. 'you…. it sounds pretty strange from you, calling her ma..'

Bani blanched. It just slipped out.

'you could call her too if she was someone else and not Jigyasa Bali.'

Bani and Sahil chuckled. Their attention turned to the calling bell. Bani excused and went to open the door. She was surprised to see Pia. Pia stood woodenly at the door sending daggers at her . she had a shopping bag with her and Bani assumed she must be coming back from her shopping. Bani was in the seventh sky to see her. she thought Pia would never come and see her unless Bani went to her. Bani drew her in a tight hug.

'leave me cheater I am not here to see you..' Said Pia putting her arms around her.

'Acha! First you leave her sister. You are the one holding her tight.' Commented Sahil from behind.

Pia made a face and loosened her hand. She brought the bag forward and thrust it in Bani's hand.

'It's for you..'

Bani's face brightened she looked in and saw two beautiful dress. 'Yeh kislieyin?'

'Bas yoon hi…'

Sahil laughed. 'Bani madam this for the dress she chopped. Remember?'

Bani smiled and drew her once more in a hug. Pia pushed her away and walked in and stopped seeing Krishna who was watching them from distant.

'Bua.. how are you?'

'I am fine.. I was wondering if…..'

'Ji?'

"Nothing…. Pia come and have a seat.'

Bani showed her dress to Krishna. Krishna looked at Pia and smiled.

They spend almost two hours with Bani. Bani finally had to push them out. They spotted Jai at the door.

'Hello..'

'Bhai… can you drop us back home.. it's getting late and Ma is waiting for one of us to do something wrong so that she can pounce on us..' said Pia Drawing laughter from Jai and Sahil. Jai was tired he looked at Bani she looked at him pleadingly.

'Okay.. come..'

They bid her bye and left with Jai.

Bani held the dress to her chest. It was expensive the cloths were pure silk and crepe. This was the first expensive gift she had ever received from anyone. Aditya had tried to buy for her but she had put her foot down saying it would be a waste since she doesn't have any place to go wearing it. this she will wear, this was the gift of love and trust.

She put the dress back as she heard the vehicle stop. She was grateful for him to take Pia and Sahil to their house. He was a good man. A smile appeared on her face. He had asked her to be with him he would win everyone over. How? she had no idea. He was crazy she should try and tell him once more.

She heard Krishna talking to him in the corridor, a minute later she heard the knock on the door. Bani went and opened the door.

Krishna stood at the door dressed to go somewhere.

'Bani.. I have a party dear.. I'll just show my face to them and come back.. dinner is ready heat it. Jai is here. You both have dinner. '

Bani nodded a tremor passing through her. Jai and her alone. Krishna noticed her face and said, 'Jai has some work in his study call him during dinner. You can watch something on TV dear.'

Bani nodded.

Krishna patted her hand and left. Bani shut her in the room.

She feared he would come down looking for her. he did not come down to look for her instead Bani had to go and look for him to call for dinner.

He was immersed in his work as she knocked on the door.

'Bani..' he looked at her surprised. 'usually it was his mother who went to call him and where has she gone? He thought.

'Dinner is ready.' She said softly.

'where's ma?'

He doesn't know? Bani was surprised. 'she has gone for some party.'

'Ah.. yes it just slipped my mind. You go I'll be in a moment.'

Bani set the table. Jai joined at the table. She served him food and stood aside.

'what about you Bani? don't you want to eat.'

'I'll have later.'

'Of course not, sit down.' He pulled a plate next to him and asked her to sit down. Bani did not have any choice. She sat down next to him. Jai noticed her uneasiness and he understood. He ate his food quietly. Bani's initial awkwardness left her nad she felt at ease with him.

After dinner she cleared the table. He went to help her Bani declined any help.

'I can do it…'

'I know but I want to help.. and who knows if I would get any chance to be with you alone in near future..'

Bani had to hold the plates tightly. It almost slipped from her hand. Jai chuckled.

'Don't worry.. '

she walked quickly to the kitchen he did not follow her. with a sigh she did the dishes and came back. He was there. He seemed to be waiting for her.

'Bani… i…..'

'Don't jai sir.. don't say anything more.. you don't know what you are getting in to.' She stopped him with her hand and continued. 'you are forgetting one major factor.'

Jai frowned.

'I am an illegitimate child. No family in their right mind will accept anyone like me.'

Jai's heart went out to her. he took a step forward and stopped before her .

'Bani…. did I not tell you this..'

'Han.. you did it's not easy as you think.. your mother has a dream. She…..'

'Bas…….' He stopped her taking a step forward. Bani couldn't take a step back her back had hit the wall. He had almost imprisoned her.

She looked away from his piercing gaze.

'Bani.. look at me…' he took her face and turned it towards him. he saw tears well up in her eyes.

'you are not illegitimate Bani. it's them who are illegitimate. They are the ones who are at fault not the child. They did the mistake and not you. Mine is not just an attraction. I have been watching how you have changed Mamu's children. They are now better people. Your care and love has changed them. and I wanted the same attention as they got. You are a loving sister and daughter and I am sure you will a better life partner any one can have. The admiration I have for you have taken a new dimension. I fell for it. I don't think you have the ability to make someone fall out of love? Do you Bani?' he smiled mischievously.

Tears fell freely to her cheeks. She can't change his mind. She was falling for this man and that thought made her cry more.

'come on yar… wipe your tears..'

Bani wiped her tears with the back of her hand and looked away from him.

He turned her face towards him and said, ' don't think me as a person who takes advantage of the situation but I can't help the feeling to take you into my arms. What if I don't get a chance in near future?' before Bani could take a step back she was wrapped in his arms. He quickly planted a kiss on her head and released her.

Bani was almost in a daze.

'go and get good night sleep Bani and dream about a good future that has you and me together and the loved ones.. I'll open the door for ma..' he turned her to her room.

He stood watching her as she opened the door and went in. she bolted the door making sure it was locked properly. She heard his laughter in the corridor.

Blushing furiously she fell on the bed to dream about the future.

You made me like that witch?😆 It was sweet of her to buy those dresses for Bani and I find her anger with Bani very funny and cute. She'll come around. Secondly, JB part was very sweet!😳 Jai is so bold yaar. 😳😳😳 Telling Bani Rani to dream of their future together. I'll dream of their future together too. 😍 Oh, and not as brother and sister!😆 Jai seriously is likely to have a heart attack if he hears Bani call his mother Bua one more time or call him Bhai. 😆 The story is going great. So Jigyasa is back in the house (🤢🤢🤢) Please do something about her. Maybe get her into another accident, but this time make sure that she doesn't survive!😃😆 Update soon!😃
