A little while later, Jai came looking for Bani to take her out to lunch, only to notice that her cubicle is empty….thinking shaadhi ke sirf do hi din hue hai and Bani is already avoiding me…not wanting to spend time with me…. he turned around…frowning…..he had to make some changed here…manipulate them if needed…

Chapter 18
Coming back from lunch, Bani opened her email to see if Adi uncle had sent her the information that she needed or at least pointed her in the direction that she needs to go into…She saw that she had some of the reports that she needed and for the rest that she would need he had asked her to contact Mr. Shinde from the Accounting Department…with the research he said that there were two analyst, Sanjana and Ronak that were assigned to this project. She could contact them…
He had also listed the things that she needed to do before the next meeting for him…it seemed like Bani had a lot to catch up to come up to speed…
And so Bani got to work…next she knew, Mr. Walia's secretary was buzzing her because Mr. Walia had asked her to join for tea... Bani told Maria to let Mr. Walia know that she was extremely busy and could not come…so Jai had a cup of tea sent to her at 4PM…she reminded herself to thank him later….by 6 PM almost everyone was out of the office…Jai came around looking for Bani…
Are you done Bani…nikalte hai..chalo.....
Mr. Walia…thoda aur kaam baki hai…why don't you leave….I will leave once I am done…and don't worry I will get someone to get me a taxi…
This annoyed Jai…
Teek hai …in that case, I will wait right here…until you are ready to leave...said Jai …settling himself comfortably in the chair in her cubicle….flustering Bani…
At this point it is quite useless to stay here…she knew she would not accomplish anything…he totally made her too conscious and she did not feel comfortable under his perusal….sighing out loud she decided to call it a day…grabbing a few files to take home to read…
Jai was watching Bani quite intently….he could see that she was tired… he wanted to take her into his arms…and cuddle her and baby her so that he could help her get rid of her tiredness…
Seeing her grab the files to take home, Jai responded a little too loudly sounding annoyed….
Na Bani..aaj pehela din hei ..aaj kuch bhi kaam ghar nahi le chalo…aaj tum thak gayi ho…phir kal se dekenge…
Par Mr. Walia itna sara kaam hai…to phir kaise ???
Kaal kar lena…chalo ab ghar chalte hai….replied Jai tersely….
So saying Jai dragged Bani out of the office…annoying her further…here he goes again telling her what she can and cannot do…what she should and should not do…..
Bani put her head back on the seat, a little tired… a head sliding down on to Jai's shoulder….
Utho Bani..utho..ghar aah gaya…said Jai in a little while shaking Bani…
Bani woke up not realizing how tired she was….walked in to the house with Masi and Dadi warmly welcoming both of them…
Go get freshened up…I will have tea ready by then…said masi
It had been a long day for Bani…coming down later for helping Masi with dinner…at dinner everybody catching up with each other…Rano, Pia, Anu and Ranveer telling everybody funny stories from college…chattering about college and friends…after helping Masi clean up, Bani headed towards the study with Mr. Walia's coffee.. Knocking on the door and hearing no reply opened the door to the study to not find him there….She decided to head upstairs…thinking maybe he is already in the bedroom…
She opened her bedroom door open to find him sitting on the bed watching news on T.V. Handing him the coffee cup, she headed to change into her night clothes…Quiet unable to keep her eyes open she laid on the bed…only to find Jai's hands caressing her head…
Tired??? …..he asked
Hmmm….replied Bani …not even having the strength to reply back..
Ain't you glad that I did not let you bring work home…when would you have done it?…
So saying Jai pulled her into his arms so that her head was cushioned on his chest as he patted her to sleep….Bani snuggled into his body and fell asleep….

Jai would have Maria set up lunch appointments with Bani so that she could not refuse to have lunch with him… making sure that she spent as much time with him either when attending a meeting or eating lunch …which Masi so lovingly sent from home…That was another thing that Jai had done….asked Masi to send lunch from home so that Bani could not refuse to eat with him…well Jai did intent to manipulate the circumstances…didn't he???
This was annoying Bani and she would try to find ways to go home late so as to not travel with Mr. Walia or try and sneak out of lunch, quite unsuccessfully as she would see that Masi was upset when the lunch box came back unfinished and barely touched…would invariably ask her if she liked the lunch that she sent and so had to …no was forced to eat lunch with Mr. Walia…
I need to find a way out of this…thought Bani… She planned lunch with her friends at work for the following day…informing Masi not to send any lunch for her…So of course when Jai waited for lunch for Bani the next day, he was promptly informed by Maria that Mrs. Walia had a lunch appointment and would not be eating with him….he also noticed that the lunch that Masi had packed was only for one person…
So this lunch had been planned before and she did not even inform me….thought Jai…I need to talk to her….well I will settle this when we have our afternoon tea….but she did not come then either, informing him that she was on her way to Adi uncle cabin to hold some discussions….oh so now she is trying to avoid me….well let's see how long this will last thought Jai….

Bani as usual was deeply engrossed in her work one day when Pia called her saying….Di can you meet me at the shopping plaza by the A.C. Market in Tardeo…after work….there is this Tailor's shop there….he stitches amazing outfits…I want to bring some of my designs there so that he can make something for you for your birthday… it is soon coming up… Meet me there at 7.30 PM…we will first go to the fabric store first and then to the Tailor's….haan Didi my last class will be over at 7.00 and I am going to pick Rano and Anu on my way and we will meet you there…we might be a little late….
Bani left work at about 6.15 PM…she walked towards Mr. Walia's office to tell him that she was going out to meet up with the girls…Maria had already left and upon knocking on the cabin door she realized that Mr. Walia was not in his office…so thinking she left a note for him explaining….
Hmmm…one day away from him and his control…she smiled...walking towards the elevators….
Walking towards the lobby and out the front door, she hailed a taxi…seeing the traffic she was glad that she left early….I should be happy if I reach there by 7.30 thought Bani…
Bani got there at about 7.40 …hoping and praying that the girls were not already there…she got out of the taxi hurriedly paying the taxi driver….not paying too much attention to her surroundings…she had tried to call Pia on her cell phone a couple of times…..but the phone was not connecting…no signal she thought….
She went towards the spot that Pia had told her that they would meet her…not seeing anyone…she was a little nervous….trying Pia and Rano's both phones…when she realized that her phone was running on low battery…she had forgotten to charge it last night…cursing herself for forgetting it…..
She was starting to get a little annoyed and nervous half an hour later when she did not see anyone and could see that the stores were closing and the neighborhood was starting to get lonely…..she noticed men giving her strange looks….
Just then she heard police sirens….now she was really getting worried…as the police van stopped right in front of her…she started backing away…as two female cops came towards her….she started turning away not sure what was happening…when one of them yelled at her…aai ladki…kaha ja rahi hai….
Bani turned around saying…Ji aap mujse baat kar rahi hai…mei…mei to ghar ja rahi hu abhi…apni beheno se milne aai thi..shopping ke liye….but they have not shown up…
One of the lady cops…starts laughing…Ha ha pata hai…sabhi yehi keheti hai….abhi chal hamare saath….
Kaha le ja rahi hai aap mujhe…trying to pull her hands away from the cops….
They pulled her towards the back of the van…and asked her to climb in
Bani got upset and scared when she saw the other women in the back of the van…some were scantily dressed…some chewing paan….talking loud to each other…pushing each other around….
By the time they reached the police station…Bani had already heard some nasty comments like…lagti to acche ghar ki hai…aaa…kya ye mangalsutra nakli hai….arre iska ye libaaz to aacha hai…kabhi try karna padega…may find a rich customer and make more money in one night this way...said one of them….
The realization of who these women were stunned Bani and she started wiping off the tears that kept running down her cheeks…unable to stop them….
After being roughly pulled out of the van and towards the police station…Bani could not control herself…she kept asking the Inspector if she could make just one call…she would have used her cellphone but the battery was dead…
After a lot of pleading and crying, Bani was allowed to make her phone call…She dialed Mr. Walia's cell phone….who picked it up immediately…saying….Kaha ho tum Bani…pata hai…sab log tumhare liye pareshan hai…kaha ho tum…
Mr. Walia…Mr. Walia…woh mei Tardeo ke police station mei hu…said Bani sobbing loudly….
Kya hua Bani…tum teek to ho na???? Arre kuch to bolo…ab rona baand karo taki I can get some information from you…
He screamed for Aditya....saying please Tarun ko phone lagao..immediately…aur kaho ki woh hame Tardeo ke Police Station me mile….and lets go now Adi…
So saying he said…Bani mei aa raha hu….please don't worry… I will be there soon….
Aditya and Jai both rushed out of the house….while the other worried family members looked on…not understanding quite what happened…
On the way to the police station…Jai had already spoken to Tarun and explained the situation…he also had called the Police Commissioner and spoken to him. By the time Jai and Aditya reached the police station, Tarun was already there…the girl close to her nudged her saying….. arre yeh tera pati hai to tu waha kya kar rahi thi…ya phir ye koi kaam ka nahi hai….
Bani had tears in her eyes and such talk made it harder for her to stay calm and she could not stop her silent tears from flowing…
Soon she was being ushered out…Seeing Mr.Walia there, she rushed towards him…she hung on to him as he folded her into his arms….
Bus Bani aab kitna rougi….let me talk to Tarun and see what needs to be done…can you relax for a bit…
She nodded and reluctantly came out of his arms…
She heard the other girls whispering and whistling trying to get the attention of the men in the room…comments like…hey humme bhi le chalo na yaha se…..see what we can do for you…
Hearing these comments, Bani was further embarrassed…and the tears that had stilled for the moment started again…..
Mr. Walia, I am so sorry that we arrested your wife in error…she was at the wrong place at the wrong time and mistaken identity..you understand…she was close to the red light area…you know the girls are moving up…expanding their business in that neighborhood now….Please accept my apologies…Mrs. Walia…I am sorry for mental distress you went through…please Mr. and Mrs. Walia please accept my apologies on behalf of the department…
Soon they all walked out of the police station….Jai turned around to thank Tarun…
He looked at Bani who had not stopped crying and her head bowed feeling ashamed..
Once in the car, Jai wanted to know what she was doing in that neighborhood so late in the evening…Aditya ees ko kuch samjhao yaar…ki yeh Mumbai hai…Mt. Abu nahi….agar kuch ho jata to we would not even have found you…Bani haltingly explained how Pia had called her and Rano, Anu and Pia were supposed to meet her there…they were all going to go shopping and then to the Tailor's shop…..but Mr. Walia, I had left you a note telling you that I was going out….I know I did not tell you where I was going but I did tell you that I was going out with the girls.....trying hard to not cry now…she kept dashing the tears from her face….
Bani…yes I did get your note….lekin waha pohochne ke baad …phone kyu nahi kiya….aur tumhara dhyaan kaha tha?? Andhi ho kya?? Could you not see that bad elements were coming out…that decent people were leaving the area after closing their shops…why did you hang around…nikaal jaana tha na…
Woh Mr. Walia mujhe pohochane mai thodi der ho gayi thi and I did not want the girls to be waiting for me there…thought may be they had gone to one of the stores and would return soon...said Bani with a sob that she could not quite suppress… and my phone died…I had turned it off because I knew it had low battery and then when I reached the place and tried calling Pia it died…
You see because you had gone out Aditya and I stayed later to finish up some last details at work…we had just reached home…and I saw the girls home….it was only after Masi asked where you were did we realize that you were not home…the girls thought that you were in the office with me….Now Jai was really upset and his anger was starting to build up…he was mad at Bani but now he was starting to get annoyed at the girls too…
How could there be so much miscommunication….Thank God nothing happened…thought Jai…the thought that something could have happened to Bani made him shudder and his anger grew at the stupidity of the girls and of Bani….he quite knew why Bani did what she did…for her it would be a evening away from him…away from his control…
On reaching the Walia Mansion, he got out or the car, slamming the door and without a backward glance went into the house…Bani got out of the car, looking at Adi uncle…she knew that Mr. Walia was mad …mad at her because she took every opportunity to avoid being with him and he knew it….Adi uncle nodded at her encouragingly….walking her into the house….they heard Jai's voice….loud and angry…
Everybody was anxiously waiting for them…Jai strode angrily towards the girls.....
I really hope that you girls understand the gravity of today's situation…the area that you were going to meet is not one of the better areas of Mumbai….Anu I understand Pia and Rano not knowing about it but you…you should have been aware of the neighborhood…once Pia mentioned it to you…you should have told her that you guys should go during the day….
But Mr. Walia, I got out late out of class and called Di immediately and left her a message that we are cancelling our shopping trip today….said Pia feeling quite guilty.
Bani knew that Mr. Walia was not done dealing with her…he was so upset that…he walked away from everybody disgusted and angry…
Bani could not contain herself and ran upstairs to her bedroom sobbing…Mr. Walia's shouting was not helping her situation, wasn't her guilt and her fear enough….
Masi knew that both Jai and Bani were so upset that neither would eat dinner….so she asked everyone to start without them while she took dinner into the study for Jai…Munna …mei janti hu ki Bani ne yeh teek nahi kiya par kya galti sirf uski akeli ki thi??? Don't you think she has gone through enough today…chal khana kha le phir jake Bani ko mana aur usse bhi khana khila dena….

Bani was already changed for the night and was lieing down when Tony knocked on the door. She opened the door and took the tray from him…Masi ne bheja hai...
Kya Mr. Walia ne khaya?? Pata nahi maam…Masi unka khana lekar study room mei gayi thi…par….
She stood by the window looking out, thinking hard as to how she was going to stop feeling so guilty…when she heard the door open quietly and click close…she held on to the window sill tightly waiting for him start shouting at her…but she heard him take his night clothes that she had laid for him and walk towards the bathroom to change…. She turned around when he came out….looking at him with sorrowful eyes, while he kept on ignoring her….
He grabbed the remote and turned the TV on…not wanting to make any conversation with her….She slowly walked towards him and softly murmuring Mr. Walia…I am sorry….kya aap mujhe maaf nahi karenge….
Jai turned towards her, shutting the tv off, not making a move towards her…
She took a step further and gave him hug, holding him around his waist and bringing her body close to him…please Mr. Walia…kya aap mujse itne narraj hai ki aap mujse baat bhi nahi karenge…getting no response from him…she moved her head from his chest to look up at him….getting on her toes she kissed him on his lips….groaning he responded to her kiss….picking her up he laid her down on the bed and made love to her….later he would not let her go…holding her close to him…her head tucked into his shoulder…he kissed her on her forehead…shuddering once more with the thought of what could have happened today….
