Chapter 11

Bani knew that she could not keep herself to the room again today without incurring Mr. Walia wrath. So she forced herself to get ready and went into the Pooja room to pray. Today, Masi insisted that she take the aarti thali to everyone....

She took the aarti to everyone, without meeting anyone's eyes….she wanted to let them all know that she was upset…but all she heard was happy chatter from everyone…hearing snippets about what each one was going to do for the wedding….were this people blind that they could not see her pain….

As she was moving away, she felt a hand on her shoulder…..

Turning she saw Mr. Walia asking for the aarti with his eyes…

She quickly lowered her eyes…blushing…moving the aarti plate in front of him…she still could not believe what he had done last night…It was because of him that she had tossed and turned before falling in to a disturbed sleep… last night…she thought angrily….

Woh Munna….Panditji ka phone aaya tha….kehe rahe the ki sagai aur sangeet ek hi din mei kar sakte hai aur woh bas uss din woh mangni se pehele pooja karne aah jayenge …bus to apni office se chutti kar le…shadhi se char din pehele…

Bani walked away annoyed….they talk of things as if I am invisible….jab ki ees baat mei…I am involved…I am the main character of this story, ain't I….no one asks for my opinion at all…no one is willing to listen to my protests….

Bani started serving as while everybody sat at the breakfast table to eat…

Bani too sat down to eat but did not eat and just played with her food…

Mamaji, Pia, Rano or mai shopping ke liye janewale hai aaj…

Just hearing that Jai handed Anu his credit card….which she accepted giggling and saying thank you. .

Mamiji…aap chalengi hamare saath?

Bani looked up…Mamiji???Khon Mamiji????....then realized that Anu was talking to her…

I don't think she can come said Mr. Walia…

Bani gave him an angry look …here he goes again…making decisions for me…

She has to stay home…the clothes are going to be delivered at home and she needs to be here for the fitting and all… also Masiji aap woh Jeweler ko phone kar lena time confirm karne ke liye

While Anu, Pia and Rano were making plans to go shopping for all the different ceremonies, clothes from various designers like Neeta Lulla and Ritu Kumar were going to be brought in at home for Bani

.... the jeweler were going to bring the latest styles in the jewelry for her to choose from…

Sounded like Mr. Walia was keeping his words….thought Bani….about her not leaving the home before the marriage….

….putting her under house arrest…was he?

It seemed like the outfits were preselected….some of the outfits were in similar colors….just different designs….

Bani showed no interest what so ever in the outfits…said yes they were nice…to everything that was put in front of her….

Sab acche hai Masi…mujhe nahi pata…kya lena hai…aur itne sarre kyu??

Even when looking at the various designer sarees, it seemed that she was being stirred towards a selected few outfits and sarees… but then I don't really care she thought…whatever is fine…

The more she thought about what was happening…the more she realized that everything was already chosen for her, she was just being given the satisfaction of thinking that she chose her own outfits…but then does it really matter...nothing seemed to be of her choice…anyways….

A bag filled with outfits was already being picked up by Tony to be taken up to Mr. Walia's room…

Bani sent a confused glance…not understanding what was happening….

It seemed that the matching jewelry too was chosen for the outfits…

Her ring, her mangalsutra….everything was already ready and it was handed to Masi…

She was not sure whether she was just getting paranoid…was she really been given any choices or was she just a mere puppet in this act…..

It seems like I do not have any choice in this matter thought Bani bitterly…

….whether I want to get married or not….

….what clothes I want to wear…

…..what jewelry I should wear…

It seemed like the time was not on her side either…the next few days went by quickly….

Masi's happiness knew no bounds…her Munna was finally getting married...

Soon enough it was the day of the Sangeet…the days before the whole house had been decorated beautifully…everyone were happy except Jigyasa and Bani who were sulking…

The furniture was moved over so that there would enough room for dancing…

Pia, Rano, Anu, Ranveer and even Pushkar were going to put on a show for all…

Pia, Rano and Anu were helping Bani get ready…

Bani looked beautiful in a yellow saree with beautiful embroidery and crystals on it…

As she walked down the stairs…Masi came up to her and said…

Chal mere saath…tujhe kala tikka laga du…kisiski nazar na lage…

Mr. Walia and the Panditji were already in the mandir waiting for Bani to come so that they could start the pooja… Once completed…the Panditji asked them to go outside where the family and friends were gathered to celebrate their engagement.

As soon as Bani stepped out she was surrounded by Nisha, Sarika and Rahul....

Sarika: Bani tu to badi chupi rustam nikli…hume to kuch bataya hi nahi…how come you never told us that you lived here…

Would you guys have treated me the same as you did had you found out that this is were I lived…now let me ask you this….are you going to treat me the same now that you know??.....questioned Bani

A little flustered Nisha and Sarika had a guilty look but Rahul smoothed things over by saying….par tum to wohi ho na Bani?? our colleague ?? who now has become a good friend of ours…

The girls gave Bani a quick hug saying that they were sorry that they doubted her…Bani smiled at them…happy that she still had the friendship that she had thought would become awkward once they found out who she was and where she lived….she finally felt that she had some allies in her side of the court…

We were not sure if we should come when Mr. Walia invited us…said Nisha but I am glad we did…

Bani looked up thoughtfully towards Mr. Walia, she saw that he was also looking at her, a smile on his face because she was happy…she blushed when she saw him raise his glass acknowledging her look towards him…

She heard his laugh when she purposely turned her back to him…

Bani knew that Mr. Walia was a kind and a nice person…she had seen him at home were he was loving and caring with everybody…she knew that even at work though everyone feared him a little they respected him too because he treated people right…praised them when they right…but she was angry…angry that the choice was taken away from her…

Soon everyone gathered for the ring ceremony… Jai and Bani exchanged rings and then a cake was brought in which they cut…after which Mr. Walia had taken Bani's hand in his and would not let it go…caressing the ring he had just put around her finger…

He knew she wanted to run away as far as she could…but he would not let her leave his side…dragging her along to meet and greet people…

Bani called out Masi…jaara yaha aao beta….

Ji…mei aai…

Finding a reason to remove her hand from his….Bani quickly escaped and went over to Masi who wanted to introduce her to friends…

Pia, Rano, Anu had put on a good show while Ranveer and Pushkar did a good job keeping up with the girls…

After a thunderous applause to the performance…Adi uncle took over the mike…Congratulating Jai and Bani…and then asking Ranveer to start the music so that Mr. Walia and his fiance could be the first ones to start the dance before others would join them…

Masi mei…mujhe to dance nahi…

Even before she could protest, all the girls dragged Bani to where Mr. Walia was standing…

He put his hand out as if asking her permission to dance with her…

She hesitated…but Pia grabbed her hand and put it in Mr. Walia's…

Bani: I don't know…I don't want to make a fool of myself…

Jai: Just follow my lead….

Once on the floor, he lifted her left hand to his shoulder, put his right hand on her waist and started guiding her on the floor through the dance….

Bani was having trouble breathing being this close to him…she wanted to move away but his hold was strong…
