Hey all, I'm back… and with some food for thought… Yes, serious… I know, but miracles perhaps do occur you know… Now, read on with a calm heart.😳
When Ram's character was first introduced, we were all unsure as to what role he would play in the plight of Gauri's character. In later episodes, he was revealed as being a witted, and well-grounded individual. His persona was flattering in every sense, especially his comic timing. In several instances, he has made the distressing atmosphere divert itself into the object of our smiles and laughter. Personally, the "Dil Mein Baji Guitar" seriously still rings in my heart and is one that I shall always hold close.
Now, times have apparently changed and so have the characters' dimensions… including the beloved Ram. Currently, he is torn between love and hate – the two emotions inevitably pitted against, yet which reside in the same reservoir for centuries. He loves Shilpa, but is forced into a relationship with Palak, whom he knows is only using this bond as a way of revenge. Still, he accepts for the sake of his mother and the "kasamh" of Shilpa.
Now if you take the bubbly, self-confident, nonchalant and composed Ram from before and turn him over… You get perhaps, what he is depicted as now. A man confined to the restless relations, tied by the threads of different strength and length. He has made a decision… a decision to step over the beginnings of dreams he crushes walking towards "fate" in the form of Palak.
My question now is, what do you think of what has been done to Ram's character? Do you think this new transition in his role will do him better or will it only relegate him to the side as a "joru ka gulaam" or the overused "devdas"?
I have my own queries and concerns. Personally, I'm disappointed at the turn of events as I had really come to enjoy watching Ram as he was previously shown. From what I gather, he will now be shown to be a more "serious" individual, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. But it will certainly take away a lot from the beauty of the original character… I have some more thoughts, but would love to hear out yours first.
Cheers,
dc
