Yeah, he abandoned her on the day of their marriage because of a misunderstanding caused by Shiv's friend. Shiv's family thought it was Shiv's fault and when Shashank runs away the father makes Shiv marry Gauri instead. She runs away from the mandap and bumps into Anupam (Hiten T), who gives her advice which leads her back to the mandap, much to the dismay of Shiv. It later turns out that Anupam is a close family friend.
