Part 17
Life went on like this for a while! They both lived life day by day in silence.
One fine day, the whole family decided that they were going on a holiday. Unfortunately, neither Shiv nor Gauri could go. Gauri was stuck at the office as Anupam was busy with some delegates in Bangalore. So she had to handle all the work in the Mumbai office. Shiv too was going to have to work as the whole family decided to go to there farm house. He was quite irritated that the whole family decided to go.
Little did he know that this was all a conspiracy! For a while now, everyone had noticed that the 2 newly weds weren't fighting but at the same time they weren't getting closer. They decided to leave it up to fate and leave them alone, that way the two won't have any excuses.
Gauri came home around 7 and noticed that the whole house was completely empty. She turned really quickly as she heard a really loud thud. Shiv had just entered the house. She looked at him and gave him a sweet little smile. She then went into the kitchen and looked around and decided that before making anything, she would ask Shiv if he wanted anything. Shiv had gone to his room to go freshen up and came downstairs.
Gauri came out of the kitchen and walked up to Shiv with a glass of water. She softly said, "um there is no one at home. Everyone went to the farmhouse and I was wandering if you wanted to eat anything. Shiv glanced up and said, "no thanks, I actually have plans! I am going out to my friends party at a club." Gauri gave a nod and turned to walk away. Then all of a sudden she didn't realize what came over her but she turned to face Shiv and said, "if its okay with you, do you think I can come with you?"
Shiv was shocked! Shiv got up and before he said anything he thought to himself. "I might as well have her come with me. At least my friends and I will have a good laugh."
He looked at her and with a sarcastic grin said, "why not, go get ready we will leave in 20 min!"
Gauri didn't realize what came over her but she did know that she didn't want to live her life like this forever. She decided to go upstairs and change out of her sari into something a little bit more modern.
She looked into her closet and found a cute sleek black dress. She quickly changed and came down. She looked absolutely gorgeous. She walked down with confidence and style. Shiv was staring at her from head to toe. He loved it when Gauri looked glamorous and so confident. He suppressed all this feelings and angrily said, "lets go, I don't want to be late!"
They both entered the club only to be greeted by lots of people. Shiv was greeted by all his friends and Gauri was greeted my all the high society women's daughters. All of them wouldn't stop commenting on her new look. She was actually having a good time. She was mingling with other people, getting to know others, and most of all making good connections.
Shiv too was enjoying the site. He was happy! He kept on stealing glances here and there making sure she was okay! Didn't understand why, but there was something. If only his anger didn't get the best of him!
Gauri was standing with one of her friends, when the waiter came by with drinks. Machan, Shiv's best friend, grabbed a champaign glass and handed it to Gauri. Gauri politely took the soft drink, and said "I don't drink, but thanks anyways. By the way, you have thrown an amazing party!" Machan was completely taken a back by her. He was always under the impression that Gauri was some kind of bhengi! They both were conversing normally; talking about work, life and just small things.
Shiv noticed this from afar. He liked what he was seeing. Then he noticed that Machan asked Gauri to dance and she said yes. They both were dancing and having a good time. They were laughing, talking and enjoying.
Finally, it was 1 in the morning and everyone was getting tired. Slowly people were leaving and Gauri decided to approach Shiv. She went up to him and with a smile said, "um, what time did you want to go home? If you wanted to stay, that's completely fine, Ipshita said she wouldn't mind taking me home!" Shiv looked at her and for some reason he didn't want her to leave him. It was a weird feeling and he sure as hell didn't understand it. He said, "no don't worry, I will take you home. Let me just say bye to all my friends!" Gauri acknowledged and told Ipshita to go home and to be careful.
Gauri and Shiv walked outside and it was raining. Like a gentleman you would think that Shiv would offer his coat or something, but no. He was so oblivious to everything. On the contrary he turned to Gauri and said, "you wait right here, I will go get the car!" In the dark, in the rain he told Gauri to wait all by herself. Gauri was about to object when he just gave her a sharp look.
He walked away and Gauri waited patiently waited. As she was waiting the inevitable happened. A car full of hoodlums approached her and started whistling. They were about to get of the car when they saw another car approaching. They quickly got in the car and left. Shiv's car approached and Gauri ran into the car. Shiv looked at her and said, "what did you do this time?" Gauri looked at him perplexed and said, "nothing, lets just go home!"
They were driving when the encountered traffic. They sat in one place for almost 5 minutes, when they noticed a lot of cars were turning around. Shiv quickly asked a guy walking on the road what happened and the guy said that there was a huge accident and that it would take almost 2 hours to clear the road. Needless to say both of them were irritated. Shiv was about to turn the car around when Gauri said, "um Shiv, if you don't mind would you like to go get something to eat? I am starving!"
Shiv was extremely irritated but realized that he too was very hungry. He nodded and they went to a nearby hotel for some good Chinese food.
