Salil Ankola overcomes his drinking problem

After a self-imposed break from the small screen, Salil Ankola is back in action with a new show on DD and a comeback on Karam Apna Apna (Star Plus).
Ankola was suffering from alcoholism, due to which he took some time off. The actor tells us why he needed the break and how he is now as good as new.

You're finally back in action, how does it feel?
It feels good. This is my profession. I was welcomed back to work.

When did you resume work?
It has been over a month now.

Did you miss work all this while?
What was there to miss? It was a forced break for me as I was recovering from my problem. Nobody wants to sit at home but you have to do that sometimes if you have a problem.

What was this problem?
My consumption of alcohol had become far more than it should be. Because of this, I was not able to be regular at work and I was tired in the mornings. Now I am fine.

Did you undergo treatment?
No, it was just a decision I took and my family supported me.

When did you realise that you had a drinking problem?

It was affecting my work badly and I could feel it. That is when I thought about it. I spoke to my wife, she supported me and that is how it happened. I truly believe that if you have a strong will to do something, then you can do it.

What do you think was the cause of your problem, was it because of work pressure?
No, no work pressure as such. It was just that I used to have a few drinks to relax and gradually it became too much.

How was your first day of shooting after the break?
Very good, as usual.

How do you feel now after abstaining from alcohol?
Absolutely fresh! I've got my fitness back on track and everything is going absolutely well.

What are your current projects?
I am back on Karam and then I am doing a thriller show called Ek Din Achanak on DD where I play a cop called Vikram Rana. My dad is a cop, so he was my inspiration.
