With gracefulness of a dancer, he veers our conversation towards his latest showcase - Karan in Ekta Kapoor's Kahani Hamari Mahabharat Ki on 9x.
Will the Karan magic work yet again...will he salvage the floundering TRP's and ride the wave? Will Ekta's Karan indeed take the show to the helm that she truly believed in when she thought about her portrayal of the magnum opus?
To our questions, he answered, "Give us a chance to prove ourselves. Don't write us off so quick. The fireworks are just about starting to go off. There's still a long way to go before the curtains come down. Yes, I agree that the show did take a beating, but that is because the viewers haven't given us a chance."
Talking about his character, in a mood which spelt bonhomie, he said, "I have always played a pivotal role. Infact, for some strange reason, Karan just doesn't seem to shake itself off me!" I am hoping that as Karan in Kahani Hamari Mahabharat Ki, I bring in some justice to the character who was always an underdog. And as far as research goes, I am a director's actor."
So, were the rumors that the show was tottering on the brink of disaster ring true? Always politically correct, Hiten, with his best innocent face forward, asked us, "Rumors are the back bone of our industry. They keep the buzz alive. I am playing Karan, a pivotal character in Mahabharat. That's the fact that I am going to stick with...the rest is left to the mighty hands who wield the swords!"
Ending the conversation with, "My connect with my audience is yet again with Karan. They are going to see me in an avataar which is something I never thought I would do...but here I am doing it! If truth be told, I am sure the magic of a bow and arrow wielding Karan will have the same appeal as Karan Virani. So wish me luck!"
