Chap 28
A Witch and A Vampire
It was still dark outside though the watch showed the time as 6 am but day refused to break, the stars were still shining bright. Nandini was sleeping peacefully in Manik's arms, there was no stress, no fear on her face as she was in his arms but Manik; he was lost in deep thoughts. He kept caressing her hair every now and then, pecking her forehead and lips which made her smile even in deep sleep. "I am never gonna let you lose this smile Nandini." He said to himself as he tightened his grip on her. He took out his cell and texted dadi "I got the moonstone. what about the book of magic and spell? Did you get it?" he was waiting for reply when within few minutes he got reply "not yet will be going back to castle today." Manik thought for some time and texted something back to dadi and snuggled Nandini closer to him. Nandini woke up an hour later to find Manik looking at her with all his love. "good morning Manik." She wished him in sleepy tone. "good morning beautiful. Now get dressed we have to go back to the mansion. I will drop you there and go the woods with the witches." Manik said getting up and Nandini replied instantly "even I want to come." "no Nandini not now it's not safe out there. You will be at home with mom and dad." Manik ordered with firm determination and Nandini was left with no option but to oblige.
After dropping Nandini safely at home Manik made his way to Singhania house. "good morning witches." He greeted them. Dadi sighed and said "will you ever change Manik?" Manik rolled his eyes and said "come on Gayatri I am so calm and in control these days, a total man in love." Manik replied in a melodramatic to which Mukti made faces. "although whenever I see your granddaughter I feel like going back to my old ways." Manik said pointing towards Mukti. "Listen you!" Mukti was about charge Manik when dadi stopped both of them. "stop it and let's go. We are getting late and both of you act maturely if not for anything else then for Nandini." The both grow up kids a 500 year old vampire and an 18 year old witch straightened themselves after hearing Nandini.
Soon they parked their vehicle in the restricted area of the forest and started walking towards the palace. There was a complete silence and Mukti was again scared but surprising everyone Manik said "relax I'm there nothing will happen." Soon they were standing in front of the old ruined castle and said "somehow I never visited this castle. Mom never allowed us when we were human and then 500 years were spent in making peace with the reality." "Manik!" dadi said "I hope you know the castle and Nandini's connection to this castle?" "what connection?" Manik asked. "this castle belongs to the royal family of Dharamshala and the last surviving kith and kin were Abhimanyu, Vaidehi and Vaishnavi. Since Nandini is their descendent she is the crown princess along with Abhimanyu who is still alive. Well kind of alive." Dadi informed. "what?" Manik was shocked and surprised. "wait Vaidehi ever mentioned this to me when we were together. I remember her living in a modest house next to us." "that's because everyone in Dharmshala knew that the last king of this castle and his family were vampires and they were protected by witches whom they had given shelter so one night the villagers set the castle along with the king, his wife and witches in it. Fortunately or unfortunately Abhimanyu was able to rescue himself and his sisters along with few witches. But he knew if he would come back to this castle the townsfolk will know again so that's the reason he never came here. And since witches were burned alive many termed the castle as haunted so no one visited this castle." Dadi's information left Manik baffled and shocked and he stood there numb.
His mind raced through 500 years of ordeal that he and his family suffered, 500 years of heart break and pain that never left him. He died every moment in these 500 years only to find himself alive. All through these 500 years his love for Vaidehi never decreased even when Neyonika and Vikrant blamed Vaidehi along with Vaishnavi for hiding things which led them to be vampires. But today he felt disgusted of loving her for 500 long years, he felt betrayed and cheated for trusting her. He cursed himself for falling for her. Manik's chain of thoughts were broken by Vandana's voice "Manik are you ok?" he composed himself and said "yes I am fine. Let's go inside. I'll lead." Saying this he opened the door and entered only to come out shouting and burning. "what is wrong in there?" he screamed in pain. "what happened?" dadi stepped inside only to find nothing. Manik again followed her inside only to get burned again and he came out again. "looks like the witches hate you for turning and twisting them for your benefits." Dadi said with a smile. "what goes around. Comes right back around." Mukti started singing as she passed by Manik. "listen witchy!" Manik screamed but before he could say anything more Mukti said "listen vampy I'm singing and have your ever heard karma is a bitch." She winked at him.
Before their war of words escalated Vandana interrupted them saying "Enough! Manik I think you should wait here to avoid the wrath." Manik nodded in agreement and the three women moved inside the castle to locate the book.
Manik was standing and thinking about everything and nothing when his phone buzzed. He picked up the call only to be informed by a panic stricken Dhruv that werewolves wanted to have a meeting at the old cemetery." Manik pondered for a minute and rushed to the old cemetery as fast as he could. He called Alya and asked her to stay with Nandini and not venture out anywhere. His mind raced faster than a bullet train or a concord thinking all possible scenarios and for the first time he was unable to think rationally. Fighting with his fears and calming his mind Manik finally reached the old cemetery where his coven was waiting for him. On reaching he found the wolf pack lead by Aryaman had already taken their positions. Manik smirked on watching their burned and scarred faces. "you shouldn't have done this Manik." Aryaman said and Manik with his usual arrogance replied "you started this now it's my game, my way." Manik turned back to go but then Aryaman said something which made Manik stop in his tracks. "not so fast Manik. Not so fast. This is an open game until I have Nandini and the moonstone." Manik turned spitting fire to see a smirking Aryaman indicating that he hit the bull's eye.
"how do you know about the." But before Manik could say anything further Ayraman cut him in between and said "give me Nandini and moonstone and I give you my word that we won't cross paths again." Manik looked straight into Aryaman's eye while his other eye was focused on Harshad throwing dirty smirks "Prepare for the battle Alpha! The war is on." And he walked away.
Mukti was stepping out of the car after returning from the forest; they were happy that they could retrieve the book of magic. Just as she was locking the car a sudden force ulled her and threw her on ground. "Ouch!!" She shrieked. "Mukti!!" Dadi and vandana screamed to find Manik looking at her with all his vampire powers. "Manik! Don't you dare." Dadi warned. "don't say a word Gayatri! She went against her loyalties. She told Harshad about Nandini and moonstone." Manik picked Mukti with one hand and pinned her to a tree. "Maa..nn..iikk." Mukti said with great difficulty. "I didn't tell anyone anything." "Don't lie Mukti." Manik screamed ready to rip her head off. "Manik she is right." Vandana screamed to save her daughter. "then who did it?" Manik screamed. "I did it." Cabir's voice caught their attention. "I told them everything."
