CHAPTER 27 - JAISE TERA MEIN
Navya, it just slipped my mind... As far I remember Roka ceremony is one clubbed with engagement..isn't it" said Cabir in crisp white shirt beneath black tuxedo with a necktie looking completely relishing.
"People present their carelessness as if it slipped there head" mummered navya with a smirk sitting next to Cabir in a beautiful pink Georgette saree with
swarovski all around it.
"roka' marks the beginning of a relationship between the to-be bride and groom and also their families. 'SOME PEOPLE' confuse roka with the engagement ceremony and many have not even heard about this occasion
before." Said Navya with a mocking tone...
"You don't have to referrer me indirectly in your most annoying tone" said irritated Cabir but Navya paid no heed to cabir and continued.
"In an engagement ceremony rings are exchanged between the to-be bride and groom, while a roka ceremony is conducted just to mark the commitment of the two towards their future marriage and
no wedding rings are exchanged." Completed Navya with a lopsided smile
"The reason why MANY haven't heard about it could be because this is usually a small ceremony with only the family members of both sides present." Cabir snapped back parking his car outside dhriya's house letting them in.
"Hi guys!!! So All set?"asked aliya cheekily to which Navya replied even more excitedly. "Yes of course, I got gifts, it was on short notice so I could only get few things" to which cabirs jaw fell.
"What!!! You find this overflowing back trunk with gifts as FEW THINGS...you crazy woman...its not your wedding but manik's"
"For your kind info, we don't buy gifts for ourselves on our own wedding... " snapped Navya with no nonsense expression.
"These all are for manik's bride after all, we are his sister -in -laws in a way..right Navya" said aliya with a grin.
"Exactly my point"said Navya smiling cheekily towards aliya throwing glances at Cabir.
Ofcourse, we have to do this... As we don't expect Nyonika do do anything" said dhruv.
"Come one guys!!!! Hurry up before Cabir starts wimping like lady" shouted mukti.
"Coming" said nandini followed by Arushi." Come let me help you with these" said Arushi taking few gifts from nandini's hand and was shocked as her fingers brushed her wrist.
"Nanu...you are so cold...are you alright...are you not feeling well" panicked Arushi holding nandini's wrist.
Frankie!!! I am completely alright its just that I am feeling cold...may be because I don't turn off the ac after I took the shower"
"How can you be so careless...go and grab something warm...quick"
"Young ladies we are An hour late
And for your kind info, its our own wedding... Kisie aur ki shaadi mein nahi ja rahe hum!! "
"Mukti! Do one thing... You and Frankie go to the venue...I will be joining you in few minutes... I just realized I forgot something really important..." Said nandini to which Arushi frowned and before she could say anything nandini ran away. Arushi followed her but was stopped by mukti " Arushi! You don't have to worry about her...it must be something really important that she went like this...she is very much capable of taking care of herself... She will be there in another car...its 15th call from Cabir...come let's go" to which Arushi nodded slightly still worried for nandini and sat in the car to reach the venue.

Everyone gathered at the venue and were awed looking at the splendid decor of the hall.
Manik was surprised looking at the amount of gift and packed trays were led out of cabirs car to the hall.
"Dude, its just a simple get together family function... Not a wedding that you had to buy the whole shop for mery party" said manik to which Cabir let out a sarcastic sigh.
"Its not me man...I am still stable at mind...its your sister- in-laws" said cabir.
"What?? Who?" Asked highly confused manik to which Navya and aliya replied in unison " hum"
Manik could only smile in gratitude towards Navya and aliya.
"Tumhe pata hai manik!! Yeah Sab kuch itni jaldi jaldi hua ki hamein tyari karne ka time hi nhi mila... But I wanted that chunni ceremony should be done today itself so on very short notice I got bridal chunni ready and delivered straight from Patna... See have a look...but I don't even got time to gift pack it" ended enthusiastic Navya bit sadly.

" I don't think something like this exist" said dhruv
"In Punjabi pre-wedding ceremonies, chunni chadana' are often clubbed with roka. The boy's sister, sister in law or the mother or any one from grooms side drapes the bride-to-be with a red "chunni". The boy's family also showers the bride with lots of presents and jewellery." Said Navya to which everyone nodded.
"Nice choice Navya!" Said manik looking at the bridal dupatta to which Navya almost fainted as praise from manik malhotra that too for Navya is something Navya herself couldn't digest. Seeing Navya turning into madhubala mode everyone chuckled.

It has been near about an hour, manik was getting restless as his eyes were fixed on the main door waiting for nandini while everyone were busy talking to each other and making last minute arrangements that of course included cocktails.With each passing minute manik's worry mounted so as Arushi's.
"Its raining like cats and dogs... I don't know where nandini is... " said worried mukti
"Damn!!! She was not even looking well... I told her not to but she doesn't give heed to whatever i say... Aiiappa!! Please where ever nanu is... Keep her safe..." Said worried Arushi.
Manik constantly was trying nandini's number only to hear irritating recorded voice that the number he is trying is switched off. And pouring rain Was adding fuel to his infuriation.
Finally, he couldn't wait any longer. He pulled out his car keys and stride towards the door not knowing where he is gonna find her where he is gonna look for her. But its better than just pacing in the hall and freaking out.
He turned to leave he saw nandini who was standing at the door, completely drenched in water...vigorously rubbing her arms to keep herself warm. Her lips, blue from the cold, were trembling but tried to but up the best smile on her face. Manik rushed towards nandini and held her by her shoulders gently only to realise that she was shivering badly and was icy cold her teeth had started clattering and the icy water was numbing her body now.
Nandini was so cold that nandini felt her lungs getting constricted. Her breathing turned to gasps for air as the cold shower combined with the raging wind made her rattle to her very bones.
Her wet hair was sticking to her face and she was visibly shaking.
"Hey, you alright?" He asked, rubbing nandini's arms vigorously.
"Y-y-yes." She nodded, her teeth rattling.
Manik frowned. "You don't sound okay."
"I am. J-Just a little cold right now." She wrapped her arms tightly around her, willing the shaking to subside.
What was the need to step
Out if you could see how rain is pouring badly... And why the heck was your cell switched off... His can you be so damn careless." Almost barked out of worry.
Nandini opened her mouth to tell him to calm him down but her teeth were slamming so hard, she felt like they were going to shatter.
Manik threw her a concerned look and realized that he needed to calm down. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
Everyone who were witnessing the scene rushed towards nandini but were stopped by Arushi.
" everyone stop right there... Let manik handle it himself" in serious tone with a stern face.

Manik didn't like the way her whole body was trembling like a leaf on a windy day. It shouted trouble to him. He kept rubbing her arms with his and but that was not enough to keep her warm.

He without realising grappled the cloth that was in his reach and quickly drapped it around nandini and hugged her trying to keep her warm To which everyone looked surprise as manik dropped the same duppata that was to be drapped on manik's would be bride and slowly changed to genuine smile.
"You can't fight your destiny but you can't change your destiny" thought Arushi with a smile and soon hide it being aware of everyone's presence to showcase that she is unaffected by the act pulled in front of her.

Manik tucked the duppatta around her sides more firmly but he knew it wasn't enough. She was still too cold. She needs to get out if the wet clothes as manik led nandini to one of the room in the hotel.
"Nandini, you need to get out of this... Mukti is coming with something to wear for you in a minute" said manik still hugging her tightly. Nandini choked feeling the warmth and care that manik was showering at her at that moment. The arms she was longing to reside in. She snuggled in his chest even more feeling his warm finger brushing her warm.
"Nandini go for a hot shower you will feel good" said manik brushing her hairs aside and cupping her face gently.
N-No. I-I'm f-f-fine, Ma- nni- kk." It was becoming difficult for her to get the words past her clattering teeth.
"Now, nandini." He ordered forcefully feeling bad for being strict with nandini.
She nodded quickly and then threw her arms around him, burying her face in his neck, her body wracking with silent sobs as her life-long fear took its toll on her. Manik held her trembling body close to his as he repeatedly told her that he is there for her.He held her close for the longest time, until he felt her calming down. She broke the huge and went straight to the bathroom to have a hot bath.
Manik left as he saw mukti entering the room with a dress nandini giving him an assuring nod.
"How is nandini... Is she fine now" asked restless manik as soon as mukti reentered the hall where everyone was waiting for them.
"She is absolutely fine now... Thanks to your idea of hot shower and hot chocolate" said mukti winking at manik." She said she will join us in a bit" completed mukti.
Everyone sigh in relief.
"Cool then!! Till the time nandini joins us we can prepare for the ceremony so that we can begin it as soon as she arrives" said dhruv to which everyone nodded.
"But what about chunni cere"" said Navya only to receive glare from aliya Cabir and mukti to shut her mouth up.
"Don't worry about it Navya!!! Waise bhi.. I don't believe in all this... It was nandini who wanted a wedding with all pomp and show... I was happy with court marriage even" said Arushi.
As soon as everyone indulged in preps, manik sat rooted in his seat looking at the breathtaking beauty standing in front of him.
Manik found his eyes unable to move away from her. Without any conscious effort, a soft smile danced on his lips. He had always preferred Indian clothes to western and nandini looked like she was born to wear them. She looked so utterly lovely and so... innocent.
Nandini's attire.
His eyes lingered on her belly button that teased him peeking through sheer material. She became conscious and adjusted her pallu and tried hard to hide her belly button. His gaze shifted from her fingers covering her belly to her pallu exposing one of her bosoms clad perfectly in the blouse. She trembled with the way his piercing eyes stared at her, especially, lingering on her private assets, made her nervous and shy. Manik smirked seeing the his effect on nandini not giving a damn abouth the fact he was checking her out publicly. His trace was broken by a sudden voice that distracted nandini's attention towards it.
"Awww!!!! My nanu is looking so gorgeous" exclaimed arushi " and ravishingly hot too" whispered Arushi moving close to nandini's ear and wincked at her to which nandini shock her head hiding her litte blush.
Manik's eyes were on his lady love while she was engrossed in talking with her friends but still was conscious about manik's graze on her which made manik smirk.
Ceremony was about to begin. Nandini walked Arushi towards manik and made her sit beside him while everyone sat around them. Suddenly the lights get dim and they heard a guitar beats which attracted there attention towards it.

Spot light fell on the singer to which Arushi's eyes Widden in surprise as well others in shock except manik who stood all smiling shaking his head at his London friend karan seeing his antics. Karan walked towards them with a grin enjoying everyone's expression.

Karan walked towards Arushi.
"Karan" whispered Arushi in almost chocking voice. He cupped her face while singing looking affectionately in her eyes and planted a kiss on her forehead to which Arushi closed her eyes which came a shock to everyone around her.

Karan shifted towards manik and took him in a friendly hug that lasted for long. Karan parted while singing patting manik's face with affection.

Karan sang and danced on the tunes with a bright smile on his face.

Karan sang while moving around nandini and sang the last par coming close to her face with a lopsided smile to which nandini watched in confusion.
