No matter how much the 'intellectual' in us would dislike to accept it, but the truth is TV is the part of human consciousness and it seems this is how it is going to be for a long long time... No matter how personalized and mobile our viewing becomes but that proverbial stationary 'Idiot box' will stay... As a part of our daily retreat...
Many characters, many plot lines will continue transporting us in a virtual world, more real than the real one... more of organized fathomable chaos... They will become a part of our reality.. As much as any of the people in physical vicinity... We will forget most of them.. Almost all of them... But Some will stay... Stay for a long time... Not just as a memory but as a feeling... A twitch in the heart... To me, one such character bid adieu today...
Don Draper.. aka Dick Whitman... aka Jon Hamm... I never expected the ride to be this obnoxiously different... You see this 'Difference' is the carnal hunger for thinking minds... A new dimension is worth almost the old life... Thats what Don Draper did to me... Thats what Mad Men did to me... The advertising world at Madison Avenue in 60s.. The cold, bitter & cut throat beings of New York... All of who are not happy 'Being what they are... All of who are chasing the 'The American dream'... And time again the 'Human' part of these 'beings' gets vulnerably exposed... It bleeds with bitter silent tears... And the tide keeps tossing all the characters in such turbulent, violent but so so comprehensible situations which are so true that you know these couldn't have been just imagined...
Season 1 Episode 1 to Season 7 Episode 14, All the characters keep getting out of their skins and keep getting into yours... Don, Betty, Sally, Megan, Roger, Peggy, Pete, Burt, Joan... And many many more who just did not played their parts, they did come close to living them...
Yup... Im sounding like any miserable fan who is looking into oblivion of withdrawals of no more 'Mad Men'.. Ive experienced a similar bout sometime back with 'Downton Abbey' but the solace is the promise of season 6 next year... But Mad Men is gone... or rather has stopped at Season 7... So time to say goodbye to this 'ride of a life' series... Im almost at the risk of pledging my liking for any Jon Ham's future work but im sure soon my sanity will get restored to value everything on its merit... Nevertheless... Take a bow team Mad Men.. And Mr. Matthew Weiner, the maker of this series... You are an inspiration for that 'Someday' that we will all keep waiting for... Someday, I will have my 'Mad Men'... Mad enough to make into the hearts of millions and stay there till 'Cholesterol & Triglycerides' do them apart... Amen...
