In the solitude of his room, the question that he had asked himself returned, "Have I forgiven her?"
With his hands linked behind his head, he leaned back on the sofa and closed his eyes in contemplation.
He had followed her because he had seen the tears that had glistened in her eyes when she had made that hasty retreat. Yet he had been unable to resist teasing her when she claimed that she understood him. Those innocent anxious eyes peering at him above the towel had undone him. Still when she had tried to walk away he had to pull her back. Then the teasing had turned to desire, the one he had tried his best to keep a tight rein on ever since they had the fall out..
He sat up swinging his leg down, restless .
Fall out! Such a mild word for the desolation he had felt when he learnt that she didn't trust him... that she could consider him the monster she had nick named him as ... even while she had been the one who had called his bluff on the illusions he had created she had torn away his protective mask of ruthlessness he presented to the world. She had shown him that with her he could be himself, without pretences. The feelings she evoked in him left him vulnerable to the pain of disillusionment ... It had devastated him to know that her trust in him had faltered, that she had let it be manipulated. He would never expose himself to such torment again ..Never!
And yet... he rubbed his hand across his forehead.
He couldn't hold on to the anger, that destructive anger that sought relief in hurting back the one who inflicted the pain.. No he couldn't hurt her without feeling her pain himself..he couldn't be the reason for her tears without cursing himself...
And then the challenge! What was his aim when he made that condition? To ensure that they would not perform together at the fusion concert, making his hatred win and thus bringing about the end' to her fight to hold on to a hope for future together? Or was it...
He shook his head in dismay...
Was it just an excuse for him to hold her back... a reason to cloud his inability to give up on them? Did he even for a moment want victory? Didn't seem so the way he was behaving...
He sighed and stood up to walk towards the balcony.
Why else would he be so concerned when he saw her hope faltering? Why did it become important to make sure that she remained a part of the fusion concert? Why did her victory in the challenge mean more to him that anything else? Was he willing to forgive her?
He paused to look at his reflection in the mirror as he passed it... Or had he forgiven her already??
He reached for his guitar with a smile and walked on towards the open night where the stars beckoned.
His fingers caressed the strings as he closed his eyes to reflect on the moments he shared with Nandini during the past few days. He strived to think even of a single instance he regretted being with her.. but all he could find was a feeling of acceptance...
And the music flowed...
Jab jab tere paas main aaya, Ek sukoon mila
Jise main tha bhooltha aaya, Who wajood mila
Jab aaye mausam gham ke, Tujhe yaad kiya
ohh...
Jab sehme tanha pann se, tujhe yaad kiya
Dil, sambhal ja zara
Phir mohabbat karne chala hai tu
Dil, yenhi ruk ja zara
Phir mohabbat karne chala hai tu
The moments he had demarcated as the past and the present merged ... leaving the time in between insignificant in comparison...
Aisa kyun kar hua, jaanu na main jaanu na... ooo...ooo...
Dil, sambhal ja zara
Phir mohabbat karne chala hai tuuu...
Dil, yenhi ruk ja zara
Phir mohabbat karne chala hai tuuu...
The pure joy of belonging overwhelmed him. With it came the need to see her, His Nandini...
Keeping the guitar aside, he hurried to follow his hearts command, with the music still echoing in his mind...
Jis raah pe, hai ghar tera...
Aksar wahan se haan main hoon guzra...
Shayad yakeen, dil mein raha
Tu mujkho mil jaaye kya pataa
Kya hai yeh silsila, jaanu na main jaanu na
Dil, sambhal ja zaraaa...
Phir mohabbat karne chala hai tu
Dil, yenhi ruk ja zaraaa...
Phir mohabbat karne chala hai tu...
