The thing about Nandini is, she has two sides to her personality, just like Manik. One is this very rational, sensible, practical side, which weighs the pros and cons of every situation very carefully before making a decision. The other is this hidden romantic within her, which makes her believe in fireflies, and which also makes her bitterly hate stars. This whole post-Musicana fiasco has killed off that hopeful romantic within her. All she thinks now is, Manik and her are wrong for each other, and on the surface, they are. He makes her cry, she seems to make him bleed. It just doesn't make sense to her anymore, hence the backing off.
