Chapter2
Nandini collapsed her petite body onto the bed, prostration taking over her. She brushed her fingers along the soft silk-like bed sheet as she cocked her head over to Shilpa who was preparing something in the kitchen.
"You know Shilpa, I can't believe I'm finally here. I had hankered to taste the feeling of independency for so long. Not that I don't want to be around my mother and sister because you know how much I love them. But the feeling of being independent feels so delightful."
She rolled herself to the side of the bed.
"I get you Nandu. You're going to love it here and both of us will have lots of fun."
She grabbed a plate filled with pakodas and peeked her head through the kitchen door. Before she could call out to Nandini, the aroma of the pakodas had already made its way into Nandu's nostrils. "Pakoda!" She sprang from the bed and stood facing Shilpa in a mere second.
"You learned how to cook!" She spoke while the pakoda had already made its way into her mouth.
"Of course...
not."
Shilpa let out a chuckle. "This plate was sent by our next door neighbor. Such a sweet lady she is."
"Oh I was about to say. Me and you don't cook we just eat." She added as she popped the third or maybe fourth pakoda into her mouth. They continued to giggle as they finished the whole plate.
Manik stretched his long legs out as he sat on top of a blue weathered car with busted head lights; sipping on a cup of tea. Sensing a sting on his knuckles, he shifted his eyes on to his right hand and noticed the blood trickling from his badly bruised knuckles. Not giving it much heed, he went back to sipping the last sip of his tea.
"Varad!" He bellowed as his head cocked towards the garage door.
"Come on we have to get going so we can come back tomorrow morning." He descended the top of the car as he spoke.
"I'm right here!" A tall-slender guy with messy black hair stepped out the garage door as he rolled a tire into the corner.
"Don't worry bhai. We will surely be back here early in the morning." He wiped his greasy hands with the blue rag that was lying on a brown three-legged stool.
"With the pace you're going, I'm afraid we won't' even get to leave so we can come back." Manik retorted back at him.
"All done and ready to go." he brushed the droplets of sweat that trickled down his forehead as he eyed his finished work with satisfaction.
"We don't have all day you know. Hurry up!" Manik hollered at him as he sat in the car waiting for him to hop on.
"Coming!
"If only he could stop being impatient and crabby all the time." He murmured to himself as his legs made their way to the black roofless jeep and jumped in. The jeep vanished into the road.
