Nandini lifted her tip toes, her eyes fixed on Manik's luscious lips. Her little fingers clutched on to his shirt pulling him closer to her.
"I...I will make you forget the pain." She spoke in her inebriated state.
He moved his hand and placed it in her tiny palm.
"But...but I was going to let it feel better." She innocently stared at him pouting her lips.
Manik turned his face away from her as he gulped. If he continues to stare at her a minute longer he's going to lose it very soon. How was he supposed to control himself when her adorable face and inviting lips keep calling out to him?
"Manik control yourself CONTROL." He repeated the words over and over in his mind.
Taking a deep breath he composed himself and walked towards the door pulling Nandini along with him.
They moved their legs towards Manik's car as Nandini eyed the dark sky decorated with the gemlike stars.
"Wow!" She exclaimed as her astonished eyes continued to gaze at the stars. Manik's lips curved into a smile as he lovingly stared at her admiring her innocence. She rushed towards Manik's car, surprising Manik with her gesture and began to lift her legs to climb while her hands stayed rested on top of the car.
"Hey! Nandu what are you doing? Stop you're going to get hurt." He yelled out to her as he griped his hand around her wrist.
"I...I want... to touch the stars." She tried to free herself from his grip.
"You can't touch the stars." He tried to make her understand.
"Aaa.aaa.aaa." Nandini cried.
"Ok ok stop." He held his hands to his ears.
"This girl will be the end of me." He mumbled to himself as he circled his hands around her petite waist and lifted her on top of the car.
Yay!" Nandini clapped her hands together as she spread her legs and gazed at the stars. Manik lifted himself up and laid himself beside her.
She lifted her hand in the air and tired holding the stars trying to pull them down.
"Stupid stars. I hate them." She mumbled angrily.
"Why do you hate them? They are pretty. They always shine." Manik's eyes stared at her waiting for an answer.
She turned her face towards him and placed her head on his arm as she scooted herself closer to him.
He could feel his heart sink as her head rested on his arm. A warm feeling took over him and he couldn't help it but smile at her cuteness.
"My fireflies are better...than these stars. These stars shine only in the sky, they never come down. But my pretty fireflies glow in the jar and they're always with me."
She snuggled her head closer to him and added. "Waise you don't need those stars. Tumna hamesha mere sath rehna, hamesha and I will shine for you."
Manik lifted his eyes in surprise feeling overwhelmed by her words. He smiled as he gazed into her innocent eyes for a minute and lifted his eyes to the dark sky again.
"Nandu." He paused for a while.
"How can a person like you exist in this world?" He spoke as he eyed the shining stars.
"Everything about you amazes me. Whether it's that friendly smile that sits on your lips, or your courage to stand up and fight for everyone, your wise words that assure me that everything will be alright, your cute little gestures that define innocence, and your gorgeous doll face that continues to pull me like a magnet. Nandu..."
He turned his head towards her and found her sound asleep on his arm; her hair fell across her face covering her closed eyelids. He eyed her lovingly as he lifted his hand to her face and removed her bangs revealing her angelic face. Slowly he cupped her face into his palm and planted a kiss on her forehead. Not wanting to disturb her, he quietly hoped down the car and cradled her body between his arms as he opened the back seat door of his car. Very carefully he placed her inside and started to move away when he noticed her tugging on to his shirt.
"Ma...Manik don't leave me." She mumbled half asleep and dug her face into his chest
Manik held on to her hand as he felt her head resting on his chest causing it to race like crazy and warming up all of his insides. He hesitantly yet lovingly moved his arm and wrapped it around her shoulder holding her closer to him; a radiant smile planted on his face as he rested his chin on top of her head and closed his eyes.
There they slept under the dark sky, as the shining stars and the hanging moon witnessed the beauty of their love.
