Fire in the water.
(The near-kiss from Nandini's POV).
She looked at the lunch box and pouted. What kind of torture was this? Why hand her a chocolate cake of all the things! Of course, Navya had no idea of her fondness for the very word 'chocolate'...and more or less everything related to it. But still!
She kept doing to and fro in the corridor. Where was that stupid Harshad? She looked up and cribbed to her Aiyappa. This was so unfair! She fought hard with the temptation of having a bite...just one bite. But every time, she was reminded of Navya's words and she held back.
She didn't realize she was voicing her frustration at the poor inanimate object in her hands when something hard hit her from the back and the box fell out of her hands with the cake tumbling out!
Her hand flew to her mouth and eyes widened at once. She turned to her right to see none other than her old tormentor standing there in all his glory, making a face.
"What the hell have you done'! She demanded shrilly. "Are you BLIND? Cant you watch where you walk"! She was furious now.
She saw him step over the cake and said "Yes...I AM BLIND" he said to prove her point. She was shocked now.
She caught hold of his wrist and demanded for an apology, acting braver than she actually felt.
He dismissed her, she blocked his path again stating that she wasn't scared of him anymore. Maanik held her shoulders and said "then you should be as I'm still very much 'your's truly Monster Maanik' ".
She blocked him again, she had had enough of his Maanikism to last for a lifetime! She didn't notice the frustrated expression on his face. She didn't care. In a way she felt guilty for spoiling Navya's cake, Maanik was just doing what he usually does- she should have been a bit more careful. Perhaps it was her defense mechanism against the guilt which was at work, coming out as anger towards this man.
"SHUT UP" Maanik growled whilst holding her arms tightly, pinning her against the wall beside the lift, "or else I will..."
She looked up to meet his gaze and her heart missed several beats.
She have seen a sea of emotions in those eyes before- anger, disgust, frustration, concern, warmth... but what she saw in them right now made her gulp.
His face was so close to her, she could feel his warm breaths caress her face. She tried with all her might to look away but those black pools of desire held her gaze captive.
She then saw his gaze sliding slowly before settling on her lips. Her breath came out ragged and stomach dropped. What was happening?
It wasn't the first time that he'd leaned in so close to her face. She remembered flinching away every time. SHE HATED HIM for crying out loud! Then what happened all of a sudden that turned her to a statue, unable to move from this proximity?
She felt his face closer still. Something snapped inside her and she broke the gaze. She turned her head to see his hands still firmly gripping her arms, but surprisingly, it wasn't painful.
Her face heated up due to embarrassment. She gave him one last look, his face was still too close for comfort.
'Sorry' he breathed huskily. Her heart stopped beating altogether!
He walked away. She regained her composure after a few seconds.
Had she imagined the whole thing?
"Fire In The Water"- Feist
Love's the sweetest feeling
Openly believing
No matter what we find there
Come back in through the eyes there
Sole and born creation
The lion's in the house
Flowers are up in the air
Crashing against the dark
Ah, ahhah ah...
Fire in the water
Is the body of our love
Nobody should see this
The freeness of the light
