The first set starts with Random Woman breaking down and confessing in front of KS. And KS is spun into a quandry! That night, in her dreams, she relives what she saw, what she thought and what was revealed to her, and wakes up in a sweaty mess. She walks restlessly to the living room to resolve her mind, and fights with her internal angel and demon. Both the black (demon) and the white (angel) of the case present itself to her, and have surprising sound arguments. The demon wants her to get AK punished for his earlier sins, which will also save Random Woman's marriage (WHY??!); the angel wants her to do the right thing which means get him, but not for this particular case. The net effect comes across as a shade of grey and not so very clear and drives her to scream out aloud in frustration.
The sound brings GnarlyGnome out to calm her, and assure her she will always have help. But she is already calm -- she now knows what she is to do.
(BTW, every time that either AK or KS have faced their internal personages, the scenes have ROCKED. I think that AK facing his internal Angad were some of the, if not, the best that the show had come up with. KS' demon&angel rocked too. Very very nice...)
The second set opens with a postal delivery for KS. It's an envelope from the Khanna house (ta tada!). And we cut to the preview from the previous episode: Kunning Karthik and Air-head Anitah watch the delivery from their car. Karthik explains to Anitah (who doesn't believe in the power of the dark side of the Khanna force) that perpetually reminding KS about what was done to her will keep her an AK-hater, and one who will eventually bring him down.
Within the apartment, KS opens the envelope to find a set of her own family photographs, with her father's face prominently on display amongst most of them. Prithvi comes in to remind her it's time for court. Her face hardens as she says that she is ready.
Outside the court, our familiar swarm of journalists bees are a-buzz. They are all waiting for KS, as is the court, where the Khanna-Klan wait with the Random Woman&Husband. KS comes in and the setting is like that of a boxing match. ("And in the right hand corner, at 6 ft 2in of pure sex appeal in a red-T stands AK, and the left hand corner, at 5 ft 5in of cool sweetness in pale blue stands KS.") KS swears to speak the truth and the match - oops, the case - begins.
KS begs pardon for her youth, and then launches into a fiery attack on rapists as being worthy of much greater punishment than murderers! Rapists take away respect by force, whereas murderers merely take away life (Huh?! However..). AK has apparently resolved to show an emotionless front. But from his eyes, you can see AK is slowly beginning to lose hope. Random Woman, on the other hand, is looking more and more hopeful; Naina would be looking horrified if only her make-up would have permitted it; Karthik is manfully trying not to show his glee... And then KS says, "And AK is..." AK's face is still cut in stone, but his eyes - that were earlier looking with keen intensity at his lady - drop to hide his hopelessnes.
(BTW, MIKhan does a pretty good job today with showing that he is the gritty, I'm-a-man who can take any punishment from his lady, even though he is dying inside.)
"..NOT guilty of having raped the Random Woman." AK's eyes flash back up again!
The court explodes in a roar! (Well, it would've if there were enough people in it - as it is, there's a big buzz that goes up.) The judge asks for calm and asks KS to come clean.
In what was a story that would have done our old prankster AK proud -- and it DID do him proud; he would've been BEAMING with pride at his lady if he hadn't decided that he would be a manly man today -- she spins a beautiful yarn that exonerates AK while trampling all over his pride. It was rather superb. Here it is:
"AK had come into the room thinking that she (KS) was there. He was following her to continue begging a favour from her -- to do a show together with her. His career is getting flushed down the toilet and doing a show with her would help revive it. When he went to Random Woman, he thought it was actually KS. So he was not guilty of mistreating Random Woman!"
Judge: "So why didn't you come clean with this earlier?"
"I was confused, I wasn't sure what was happening -- I later put it all together and realised it was all a MISUNDERSTANDING (this was pointedly shot at AK; I KNEW she was listening to him when he was trying to talk to her in Josh' room!) I knew that I couldn't allow such a small thing to either destroy AK's life, or destroy Random Woman's marriage." Well, the judge buys the story even though more stern council could've poked holes in the story.
(This was actually a very enjoyable scene for those with the imagination to look at MIKhan's face and NBamb's face putting across subtle nuances of what they want to get across. The two characters were doing a conversation all of their own with KS throwing a multitude of barbs at AK, all of which were finding their clear target at AK. Rather nice, I must say!)
The court lets out and that inane, inane, oh-I-love-my-husband-but-made-a-teensy-weensy-mistak e-forgive-me Random Woman comes out with bowed head/hands/shoulders and practically kisses KS' feet for saving her. (If that woman EVER makes an appearance again, I will end up destroying my TV!)
They are followed by Naina-Dilip. KS and Naina look at each other. Naina says not a word, and I couldn't interpret anything from their looks either. But KS apparently understands something and leaves the Khanna family behind with a flounce of her pretty little head. She has had a clear moral victory here, and everyone involved knows it.
At the very end of the procession is AK, who is now relieved enough to let go of his stony facade and looks lost and lonely and needy (read: they're playing the sad version of the title track in the background here) as he watches KS leave.
The last set is a sweet set of dialogues between two pairs, switching back and forth from one pair to the other. One pair are: Prithvi-KS. The other is: Josh!-AK. What makes it sweet is that the context of the conversation from Prithvi-KS is the same for the Josh-AK. (I don't remember the exact line of the conversations, so be warned that you're just getting the gist of it.)
Prithvi assures KS that she has done the right thing, but why the strange story. KS says that it was the only way that she could save both sets, and in the process, save herself from being anything other than truthful. She wants to be sure that she destroys AK, but NOT at the cost of destroying her truth and her soul. :-( Something that our poor boy didn't think of too much when he was on _his_ venegence drive, I'm afraid. Switch to:
Josh who is telling AK that KS did save him, but that she is destroying his reputation, his respect. AK is wry and accepting: he understands that she wants to destroy everything about him, but never at the cost of her morals and values. She will never destroy him that way. Josh says despite all her vengence that she still loves AK. AK shakes his head and says that she probably does, but she will never ever accept it or acknowledge it. Switch to:
KS admitting that she was crying tears for the person that she was out to destroy and she couldn't quite control that part of herself. She leaves Prithvi behind, who wants to reach out to comfort her but understands that this is not something that he can touch in KS yet. Gnarly Gnome has this intense look of pain on his face (which actually fit in very well, but I just can't sympathise too much with it) like he wants to run to her and cuddle her but he's just _too_much_ of a gentleman to intrude. KS' mom lays a hand on his shoulder and tells him she understands how much he loves her. And that perhaps it's time for him to become a permanent support for KS.
Preview for the next time: Gnarly Gnome, with a white bandaid on his forehead, is finally looking like he's got some of the fierceness of intent that is so resplendent in both AK and KS when they want something. He is talking to a lawyer/broker type of guy about buying every single share of the Khanna firm that exists. He doesn't care how much it costs, he doesn't care how it is to be done: he wants them! Wow! Will Gnarly Gnome Prithvi become a Real Man Prithvi at last? Will he finally become a real threat to AK and KS getting together after all?
In the Khanna boardroom, Naina's secretary assures Naina that they have an assurance from almost all their major shareholders that they will not sell; all except the shareholder with the largest number of shares -- she hands the sheet over to Naina who suddenly looks very, very perturbed!
(Ooooh, I loved it. I loved the demon-angel struggle, I loved the courtcase, I loved the switchback conversations, I loved the boardroom preview. For me, the underlying unspoken criticism in the courtroom that KS delivered to a mute AK was a class act. I'm falling in love with KYPH writers again! They are finally delivering on fleshing out a KS who is just not a pretty flower to be bent into position in a vase by a scheming AK; she's flesh-and-blood and a brain, a brain, a brain! YAAAAY! Take that, AK! Now, let's have a real match where AK's boy brains fight KS' girl brains and let it be a fair fight! I loved it.
All our people did very well today too. NBamb rocked, MIKhan rocked, in new and subtle and grown up ways. Everyone else did their supporting cast roles well.
Last shot: I am going to bet that the majority shareholder is Daadi -- that's almost obvious, no?)
